Sixers v Cats, Jan 4

Star of the comp in years to come. Big skinny bugger that he is.

Years ago

If Deng hadn't gone nuts in the 4th Perth would have won easily.

But if Cotton hadn't gone nuts in the 3rd, Perth would have lost by 20.

You can pull out this meaningless shit whenever you like but it doesn't change anything. I thought Adelaide played better on the whole, and it started looking like some individual brilliance was going to take the W away from them, but then some individual brilliance from Deng swung it back in Adelaide's favour. That's sport! Love it.

Guys only thing we need now is Homicide commentating in the Big Bash League Lol.

BBL is fantastic By the Way. Have it on the TV while I am watching the NBL on my MacBook at the same time.

Awesome to see AJ Tye wearing Steph Curry Socks the other day anyone see that?

I haven't watched a game Homicide's done commentary on since around early to mid December, with the exception of the Wildcats' home game against Brisbane which I attended, and could thus watch without his involvement.

Totally despise the Homicide hate. I wish he commentated every game.

Years ago

yeah because look at the massive uproar the Deng-Martin comparison got. whoa!!! everyone really bit big time on that one.

Years ago

"made a meaningless comparison to Martin's."

Not quite, I deliberately chose to compare Deng against the most defensive player on the night.

One could say I caught a worm, put it on a hook and dangled it, but with Perth fans one doesn't really need a worm at all.....

don't enjoy seeing my team lose, but good to see the comp is alive and kicking.

Fans are the same everywhere. People in general are dumb. It's a prerequisite infact if you want to be President of the United States these days.

And hoops is the winner on both counts

Ref blaming is a cop out, players make as many mistakes as refs, but most supporters are blind to their teams mistakes and look to blame someone else, happens in all sports, we played one decent quarter the third in all honesty, you won't win doing that against anyone, let alone a decent team like Adelaide.

Still i'm happy where we are at right now, same time last year we were struggling. Right now it's a pretty even season, so getting home court in the finals will be huge this year.

Years ago

Great game by both teams tonight, refs made few soft calls ,some by Reid,I think he needs his eyes checked.Deng was Sixers best player,if he can get more court time he will improve.Great to see Moore playing.Shorter needs to be a playmaker pass ball around ,he lacks scoring in 3 area,if I was coach I let him do everything except 3s.
We need keep winning ,if we can beat Brisbane and Cairns awesome.Big wins like this ,Sixers will finish top 2 .

And if Sobey finds some shooting form look out.

Hopefully Adelaide can stay fit now. Would have liked to see them play Perth in the play offs last year because they looked to have the wood on them. If they meet them this year with a fit roster it will be interesting.

Match report Adelaide Now

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/basketball/majok-deng-explodes-with-16-final-quarter-points-as-adelaide-beats-perth/news-story/15d72b17a05db262237bb1e31c6ac460

1/ Jack Toft took the trouble to look up and post stats regarding Perth's referee advantage at home. He doesn't need to reproduce them for proof as any halfwit can see, it has been happening for a very long time. All credit to Perth as they have finessed, better than any other team, how to push the referee's boundaries to the max. How to make the referees feel bad for calling so many fouls on one team. Lets face it we need a clean out of the current referees and some new blood brought in. They have not been good enough for a very long time. They often blow the whistle in anticipation of fouls that may or may not follow. Happened several times tonight where the whistle came just before the contact. Yes they guess, they assume and they have sensitive ego's. LK must do better.

Win or lose no one is going to be happy with the refs. They are not consistent, they are not particularly liked or respected. They fail to earn respect from both teams and coaches. Exception perhaps Melbourne United. Either retrain them or replace them!

I'm a Sixers fan and was there tonight and there was plenty to not like for either team regarding the refs.

Luckily for Adelaide Deng got some last quarter court time and showed his team mates the value of shooting practice. Yes he stepped up and filled the gaping hole from range, his team mates could not. It has been remarked that he is the first to arrive at training and the last to leave , practicing on his own. Well done MD.

Huge games from Creek, Childress, Johnson and Shorter, but without Majak to break up Perth's zone defense from range in the last quarter, their great games would have been wasted.

I've really enjoyed reading all the whining on here. Puts a big smile on my face:)

Deng will be a future star. He is so solid for a young bloke with limited minutes. Very hard to guard a bloke like that too.

Years ago

Certainly not Tokoto's finest game, but he was far from the only culprit too. At least he attacked the basket occasionally. When he's taking a lot of longish jumpers it's sometimes a poor decision, but IMO mostly a symptom that our whole offence is dysfunctional, and it's up to him to bail us out. His impact on D is a concern though. He has been generating us free possessions & easy baskets, but not so much lately.
We need more from our front court to take some pressure off the back 3.

Anonymous
Years ago

And TR, that's what I mean about Tokoto being a big part in Perth's downfall. I saw that in him pretty early, turned me off. That and the fact he plays for Perth. In the industry we call that a BAN

Anonymous
Years ago

If Shorter doesn't re-sign with Adelaide, I hope we have a go at him. Been a fan since day 1. Really showing some shit, including in the half-court

Years ago

As a Tokoto fan. I’m starting to question is mental toughness and desire.

His turnovers are also annoying at times.

Wildcats played badly but were in it. Not a terrible loss considering we could have won but had no business being in contention.

A career night by a Deng cost us the W.

Years ago

Perth were average but clearly missing the winning influence of Greg Hire tonight. He is the x factor.

Anonymous
Years ago

If Perth's chemistry can go to shit and they don't try as hard, that'd be great. Tokoto has a big role to play in this scenario. Step up, kid!

Because they aren't the most talented team in the competition, that's for sure

Years ago
"I was disappointed with our defence, failure to execute and not playing hard enough," said Trevor Gleeson.
"One thing a coach shouldn't have to ask his players is to play hard enough. It's disappointing."

What a horrible week to trade in Tokoto and Captain him. Was tossing up between trading in DJ and Childress but decided to go Tokoto and upgrading Humphries to Brandt. Never thought Tokoto would be the mistake.

Years ago

Great game to watch, serious individual talent on show with a number of players having great moments. DJ being a beast in the first half, Tokoto impressive and serving up a facial to Mitch Creek. Shorter/Childress/Creek attacking the rim in the second quarter and having great all round games, in the third - Cotton taking over offensively and Damien Martin taking over defensively. Then Deng coming off the bench in the fourth when the 6ers looked unable to score against the zone and busted the game wide open. And those attempted dunks by Tokoto and Childress - imagine if they had been completed - would have made it even better.

Unfortunate this thread has been derailed by anonymous posters on school holidays for what was a great game.

Happy with the win for the Sixers but I would like to see Joey have a better strategy to go to when teams shift to a zone defence. This seems to have hurt us a fair bit in games this season. As DJ was feeling good, it might have been worthwhile running some plays for him to get an open 3 in the third when they went to the zone rather than having guys drive into multiple defenders and turn the ball over. However putting Deng in the fourth and having him do what he did works also - great to see a young player step up like that in crunch time.

The crowd tonight was around 6,800. Compare that to the last four digits of my phone number (2393).

Very insightful comparison

Um, didn’t you claim earlier to have studies statistics and know how to interpret them?

Adelaide have won one game where they havent led the ft count, in that solitary game they had one less. Perth have won 3 with less fta.

Years ago

Massive scoring output by Deng. 16 points in 14 minutes. Compare that to 2 points in 27 mins by Martin

I said that before the game started

Years ago

And Perth fans wonder why they're the most disliked fans in the league.

Lose with some dignity FFS

Years ago

Took Deng pulling a game out of his ass to beat the Cats. 36ers jumping around like they won the championship, lol, enjoy the mid-season home win.

J
Years ago

Adelaide lead league at 26 fta attempts.

Years ago

Not going to win many games when you're out-played in 3 of the 4 quarters. Pretty weak effort by the Cats I thought.

Years ago

As a Perth fan, I’m not going to detract from what Deng did. The kid won the game for his team with a monster quarter. Good on him too. Maybe it was a “fluke” but it still happened.

Years ago

No, salty will be me when Perth smash Sydney by 40+ points on Saturday night.

Glad I managed to tune in for last quarter. Tokoto is a high calibre flog and I love watching him lose.

Nope, I complain plenty. Thought it was fine tonight though, not much wrong compared to the past few weeks.

J

Perth keep winning titles, Adelaide keep choking yet perth fans are salty? Ratings are factual, as is Adelaides reliance on fta advantage

Super salty in here. Delicious :)

Yeah Angus, its clearly only Perth fans that complain about reffing. Dickhead.

Which one of your wooden spoons are you using to try and stir things up?

Years ago

I don't know, beating the top team on the ladder when you are fighting for a post season spot seems like a decent reason to celebrate lol

Years ago

I'm guessing the anon hyping Big Bash is a salty Perth fan?

That was an exciting High Standard Game!
