NBL statement on referees
The statement says they will review at the end of the year and see how best to "interpret and apply" the new rules. Sounds very seamless indeed.

Every league in every sport around the world complains about officiating
NBA
EPL
MLB
NFL
AFL
NRL
Super Rugby
Cricket
Etc etc etc no one is ever happy. It’s all just white noise.

Sticking up for mediocrity is fine if you want a shit product. It's meant to be a national league but there's completely different interpretations of charges (for one example) each week. Get rid of "flopping" if they can't understand how to officiate it. It's a bastard new rule straight out of soccer mad Europe.

Swimming- legality of stroke, underwater length on breaststroke??, 2 handed touch
Running- baton changes, lane violations, false starts
All sports involve some form of official judgements imho- even bog snorkelling.

"Keep trying to justify the shitty, inconsistent refereeing though. Another 10 years and they may be decent."
Said pretty much the same thing.......20 years ago

NBL: refereeing is all good.
In totally unrelated news, if you look out your window you’ll see pigs flapping their wings and performing aerobatics.

Keep trying to justify the shitty, inconsistent refereeing though. Another 10 years and they may be decent.

Another round of charge/flop referee roulette. These refs have a loooooong way to go. What were they calling in the Adelaide Illawarra game Friday night? Carfinos comment was basically to say that at least whatever it is tonight they are being consistent with it....

I think it's common knowledge one member of the young refs family get's preferential treatment but it isn't him. If acceleration was associated to his "family" he wouldn't get any games.

The biggest frustration for me isn't even the unsportsmanlike interpretations (which has been frustrating), it's the ridiculous amount of tech fouls being blown for insignificant reactions.
The refs need to give players some licence - sure if it's over-the-top abuse or carry-on then call a tech, but that's not what been happening.

And he is a knob

It isn't just commentators interpretation influencing fans. It's current and past players and coaches too. Apparently they are all dumb and the refs are perfect...

Pretty much all a load of hot air except for the bit at the end where he says they'll make the review of some calls more transparent. But then I imagine they'll end up being about as transparent as player value in the salary cap. We all remember that promise!
From memory, we had a reasonably good year of refereeing when we had the referee panel adjudicating. It cleaned things up, the teams got used to it, the internal feedback was apparently so good that some refs were getting pissed off, and then it got chucked out and we're back to sloppy, inconsistent refereeing with no real ability for criticism or growth.

The Christmas Carnival is fast aproaching and this is just a reminder that the nomination closing date is the 4th November 2011.
I only require the form to be in by the 4th November payment arrangements can be sorted out later.
If you require more time please call me & let me know so your team doesn't miss out.
This carnival is suitable for div 2 - 5 teams which allows them to participate in a great weekend of basketball and gives them the experience of playing a month’s worth of basketball in one weekend which is good timing for the start of the summer season.
The carnival also allows U/10 Div 1 & 2 teams to participate as there are not many tournaments offered to U/10’s and why should they miss out on the fun, so hopefully your teams would love to play.
As district will still be scheduled on this weekend we can make game time arrangements to suit your teams so they can still nominate in the carnival.
If you require anymore information please call me 0408 575 041 or email basketballsa@adam.com.au.
Hope to see you at this year’s carnival.
