GOLD COAST chinese backed team

It sure is.

The only advantage of not being fully integrated into Asia is that if we were the Asian clubs with more $$$$ to offer would be signing up our players diluting the NBL even further. You'd then have the Asia guys along with the already Europe & NBA players not playing in the NBL.

Real interesting dilemma when you have all the talent in the region but the least money and population.

NBL champion team, if it were invited to the FIBA Asia Club Championship, would absolutely kill every opponent.

Yeah there is no reason China really would want anything to do with the NBL. Why settle for a partnership with 6th best when they have opportunities with the best (nba).

If we want to partner up with asian leagues, we need a continental championship similar to the Euroleague. That is the only thing i believe would have mutual interest.

The Chinese CBA have said neither yes nor no. They won't say no because of trying to be polite to LK.
The NBL have even tried going to NBA Asia with a similar silence encountered.

Years ago

The Chinese CBA told LK they weren't interested.

It has more to do with new foreign investment policies imposed by the Chinese government recently on their citizens. Strict limits were imposed on the amount they can move out of China.

Amount significantly exceeding the limit will need approval and unfortunately for the NBL, investments into foreign sporting and entertainment entities fell into the "unlikely-to-get-approved" basket.

It may still be possible but significantly more difficult than in 2016 and global politic seems to have affected it even more. Not looking good.

If it's financially stable, why not. Heard there's a little bit of money in China.

The bloody chinese are not going to help the nbl, in fact they would make the competition worse。

Until Brisbane’s ship is righted, a Gold Coast entry remains a pipe dream.

Perhaps they came to their senses and just want to pretend they didn't say anything in the first place? Wouldn't be the first time *cough*soft cap payments to teams*cough*

wow... old news

They are not going to improve the standard of the nbl, why do it?
Better to have another local team or two.

I guess forever this has been a problem and it still is. I wonder whether sometimes it effects the kids due to the bad parents. I know it shouldn't but it does no good for anybody. Any thoughts on how it could be handled from maybe a coaches perpective? and not have affect on the child who is innocent?
