U18 Women's Asian Champs during VIC school exams
They had good bigs at the u19 WC (even without Cochrane)
All of a sudden.. a coaching staff change and they never gelled and finshed 6th.
Russia had 2 of the best bigs in the world in the age group (Vadeeva and Musina) and ended up winning the title. We almost had them in the 1/4s.

After Cochrane at C, hard to guess who's the next best center. Plenty of options though.

I like how they actually bring in a big pool of players instead of just 15 or so
Iike we do.
Japan's current list has over 30 players. Some exemptions.

They beat us at Asia cup
They beat us at u19 WC
We beat them at u16 Asia cup
They are very quick, disciplined and have great shooters. Lack of size has always been an issue for them (tokashiki has been the only one at senior level)
A few bigs have emerged recently in there junior programs which help them a lot to be more competitive under the basket. 6'2-6'3 umezawa looks to be a very good post player for them going forward.
The u18 team pool listed recently has 1 player at 186cm and the other 187cm.
Tall for them but not in comparison to us. Cochrane likely our best center who is probably 197cm.

Japan on the up - recent results at national level indicate this. Got to play good motion off ball defence when playing any Japanese national team at present.

Certainly need a good squad for Asia. (The best squad isn't necessary although it helps with world rankings to win) Top 4 finish is required to make the WC.
Not as difficult as the men's as there is twice as many teams but we will have to beat at least 1 of Korea, China, Japan or NZ to qualify.
Japan will be good.
Nz will field a good team, probably the best team they've ever had at this level.
China and Korea always a mixed bag, sometimes good, sometimes bad.

Who will miss out?

Did anyone watch the WNBL today and see Eva's knee injury in the opening 6 seconds of the game? Is there a prognosis on this yet? She looked to be in a whole lot of pain!!!
