FIBA u16 Asia Champs 2018
Agreed 892 & 907. Teams want shooters but not those that cant play D.
Some good shooters in the team and also the reserve players on the list linked

certainly is changing, has been for several years now gradually the huge players that struggle to run the floor but used to be highly sort of to fill several spots on a roster have been replaced by more mobile smaller players and guard heavy rotations. this is to keep up with the European game more than the USA game because their are far more Euro teams and tournaments that pay good money to players than their ever will be USA teams, and the USA really doesnt have anything other than college, which you are over and done with at 22 or NBA/WNBA thats pretty much it unless you can scrape into a training roster.
What teams prize now is the multi spot player that can play both ends of the court

They want players that can run, shoot and get after other teams on defense. The world game has changed from the conventional plodder of the 6'10-11 range, if you are 6'8 you better be able to run if you want to keep up with the way this group plays.
3's or trans dunks!Exciting stuff

you'd think we would be one of the tallest teams in Asia...
not this time round.
4-5 teams bigger than us.

The others in the camp were
Bald
Armstrong
Woodford
Griffin
Richards
Adebayo
Crowe
A lot of other quality talent that weren't on the list.
Williams
Taulapui
Mazlin
Bofinger
Steiner
Simons
Waters
Amongst others.
Most of them will be at the ajc.

Obviously there was a squad of 18-20 that was already identified for this group "same as the girls" so these would be looked at fairly heavily at the AJC. There may be others that come out of the woodwork also?

ajc u18s 2018 will be interesting.
I think a few players will push for selection in April.

PG - Wigness strong! Expect him to play a lot

defense looks pretty bad in the guard spots.
Looks asthough china and Phillipines will be much bigger than us and Japan a lot quicker.
Will be an interesting tournament.

I watched the ajc u20s. Those on the team didn't look that good in comparison to those at ecc.

#360 I would dare say the coaches will get the squad together again following this tournament prior to the World Cup. Remembering that the u18 nationals is in April, so look for a camp with the extended squad for May.

Don't think this is the best squad available when you look at recent results at development tournaments.
Maybe a few changes before the WC.
Don't have a lot of big guys in this age group.
The 4 post players are quite small in comparison to other u16 nations. Our tallest guy is 6'8.

Asia ain't getting respect...
We never climb the world rankings at junior level because winning Asia means very little according to the fiba points system.
Competition weight
WC 2.5
Olympics 2
Europe 1
Americas 0.8
Asia/Oceania 0.4
Africa 0.3

I have heard that this event may be postponed again as it clashes with guitar lessons for one of the players from Lebanon! I can't believe they would move the event for this reason when they refused to move the U18 womens when some Australian players would miss school exams. As usual Australia is not getting the respect we deserve.

Tournament was for last year but was cancelled and moved to this year.
The World Cup is just a couple of months after this tournament.
Athletes born 2001 and younger are eligible.

During the press conference with Marty Clarke & Diamon Simpson, Diamon quoted Mark Davis as sayinig to him that when you are undersized it comes down to
"How bad do you want it"
This epitomised Mark Davis and his game and it's great to hear a club legend like Davis having an influence on a current young import for the 36ers.
Perhaps to a certain extent coach Clarke is right about Boti being too negative with his evaluation of the 36ers.
Perhaps this type of quote would be better to talk about instead of everything the club is doing wrong
