Cairns scouring the world for next Head Coach
Let hope he gets it right for the continued succes and survival of Cairns. Get it wrong and I dont think there will be another chance to get it right. Just sayin.

There is a lot to be said for a coach's familiarity with a league and its players/administration. Mike knows this league by being around it for so long. A coach who has pedigree as a North America-based coach for his entire career may not see success translated to a different continent where so many things are different.
Chill out and give Mike an actual chance. Remember Dean Demopoulos? Remember our boy Sweat Towel Joe?

The Wildcats actually looked. The Taipans did a LinkedIn search using the local library free internet.

Teams to "scour the world" yet picked up existing NBL coaches:
[X] Perth
[X] Cairns

I doubt that all applicants have been named. Shawn is under contract and no reason he would take a paycut.

To call all the local coaches spuds is ridiculous, I’d take any Australian coach ahead of most import coaches, just look at United this year compared to there American coach previously. If you have served your time as an assistant and your credentials stack up take the Aussie.

This is why I haven't renewed my membership! Correct Joel Khalu is a spud. Jamie O'loughlin is a terrible choice too, especially because the players would roll their eyes everytime he said something. DMac has shown he can't coach at the NBL level. I mean hopefully this is just rumours because if these are actually the candidates then we screwed.

DMac and Mike Kelly in the hunt plus "The application process to be the new Taipans coach closed last week with incumbent Taipans assistant coaches Jamie Pearlman and Jamie O’Loughlin, Brisbane assistant Mick Downer and Joel Khalu also confirmed applicants."

Shawn Dennis may be interested but he is contracted for another season after this one and makes roughly $220k USD per season. He will stay in Japan. Would be lucky to get $120k for Cairns job and a horrible recruiting budget.

Please take Gaze and JVG.

Is that why he bought a house in Carins yet now isn't in contention for the job? How sad and unlucky.

Very interesting that Gordie ruled himself out, he is the one I would go for first.

I remember the Wildcats saying they were embarking on a global search for the right coach, then being excited at the announcement that they had signed one.. then being very disappointed when it was revealed to be Gleeson.
I thought it was hilarious how they made a big deal about searching in the US. People play it down now but probably don't remember how big a deal the club made of it. And yeah, what an anti-climax after it all.
"4 out of 5 years he had by far the most talented team in the league, he is one title short of what a good coach would've delivered in the same situation."
Correct. At least someone other than myself gets it. Most on here think he is some master coach. Keep contributing, as you get it, such a breath of fresh air!

By world do they mean NZ?

Lue could be free after his season with the Cavs

If they don’t take Liam Flynn, they are crazy

Demopoulos experiment worked real well for Melbourne, just go a local cheap option.

"Yes, hopefully Cairns new coach won't deliver them 3 titles in 5 years."
how many titles did he deliver in 5 years at townsville?

That wasn't my point. They talked it up going to the US then hired a local. They probably just said it to make the US holiday they were taking tax deductible.

Hopefully this isn't like the time the Wildcats scoured the USA for a coach only to appoint Gleeson.

Would Rahard Tucker be an option for the 6ers? He's naturalised isn't he? If so, could provide some short-term relief. Probably the best player hanging around locally.
