How will a full strength Boomers use Simmons?
O dear only twice did any poster mentioned defensive ability as a must. It’s all about shooting. Big time Bball wins come from exceptional defensive skills and commitment and an occasional Steph Curry with the ball in hand

Kay to short on the world stage, look at him standing next to true bigs, he looks short.

Jonah Bolden is a terrific defender and can hit the three-ball. Brock Motum is a flat out scorer who can stretch D's with his three-point shooting, but is not a great defender.
Both would thrive playing alongside Simmons.

Also a possibility...
Simmons
Ingles
Broekhoff
Bolden
Baynes
Mills bringing the spark off the bench at sg with Exum at the point.
Seems odd I know because mills has been exceptional in international tournaments but having 6'7 Broekhoff guarding pfs (if you have mills in the lineup over bolden), players like jokic and Davis are going to have there way, and even if you switch simmons with Ryan on the defensive end he doesn't have the foot speed or agility to defend guards.

I'm with you '998. Seems a no-brainer to use Simmons in the exact way the 76ers are now. You know, the 14-0 streak, getting results against NBA teams, 76ers.
He's a generational talent. At PG, he has as much influence on the game as he can get, so play him there, regardless of potentially being short a big. Two three point specialists in Ingles and Broekhoff are perfect alongside him - one's a top-shelf shooter in the NBA and the other in Europe. Mills or Delly beside Simmons and the other on the bench.

stats don't look to good for Philly when you have TJ at the point and Simmons at pf.
I find it crazy how posters are saying.. take it out of bens hands and let Delly or Exum run the point.
A guy that's 4th in the NBA in assists... can see over the defense... has the best handles of the 3.. and is the most disruptive on defense... and likes to drive and dish to shooters all around... reddick(mills), covington(ingles) saric(bolden)

I haven't seen anyone mention Cam Bairstow on these lists, it would be great if he could get back on court and his extra Olympics experience could be valuable during training camp.
I'd also love to see McCarron at training camp, as mentioned above the man needs experience and it's a shame that he isn't in commonwealth game getting extra international experience (moreso with Lemanis play calling than with the competition).
I'd like to see Simmons play as more of a 4, at the Sixers he lets TJ McConnell have more ball handling responsibility and I could see Delly having that role. Simmons being main playmaker is a terrific Plan B and if it's not as tiring for Simmons doing it that way then he should be fresher to take over games in the 4th

Is Thon making the side as much as a lock as some are assuming? Motum is having a really good year in Europe and offers a little more in the international game. I know Maker is in the NBA but he isn’t playing a lot and hasn’t really showed anything that’s too appealing. All I can see him offering at this stage is a big that can rest Baynes for periods with a few fouls to give. We don’t need his shooting with guys like Mills, Delly, Ingles and Broekhoff all on the list. He isn’t an elite defensive big ala Baynes, hasn’t shown an ability to pass like Bogut and he doesn’t rebound much. Even Landale could fit better in this team for balance.

In two years time Tamuri Wigness will be 18yo and ready to be in the Boomers team....

harryfroling is not even a top 15 big.

If Creek or Sobey make the side Australia are in trouble.

The coach is a dickhead and doesn't pick the best team eg being Aj Ogilvy in the past when he was the best centre in the league and now Daniel Johnson. How on earth is Hodgeson or Brangt in an Australian team before Johnson says it all about the DICKHEAD.

What's the likelihood that Harry Froling is in the conversation for 2020 Olympics?

It’s a pity the Kyrie boat has sailed!
I’d definitely take Goulding over those other three. He’s got a lot of experience now and that showed in the grand final series. Gliddon is too slow, Sobey too volatile and McCarron needs experience.

ingles plenty good enough to play sg and defend most opposition sgs.
I wouldn't have said that 2 years ago.

Probably Goulding.
Sobey, mccarron or gliddon the other.
2 years from now, got to also see how Vasljevic has developed.

Yeah I’m watching the game. Goulding isn’t perfect, but we need one more shooting guard and I can’t think of a better one. Who would you put in instead?

Simmons/Delly
Mills/(?)/(?)
Ingles/Broekhoff
Bolden/Maker
Baynes/Bogut
1 of Mathiang, Landale, Motum, Cooks, Adel etc

Are you watching the Boomers Beantown ! Goulding has not performed yet even against a binch of college kids and the lowest of ranked teams. Creek yes verdict out on the last spot

I can’t wait to see Simmons on the Boomers. We have plenty of good shooters to surround him with and enough rebounding, defence and size to compete with every team now. After Simmons, I think Baynes, Ingles and Mills have all earned starting spots. With Simmons running the poInt, I don’t think there’s any need to have Delly out there as a starter. Broekhoff continues to shoot the 3 and rebound well in Europe, so he’d be my final starter.
I’m hoping Bogut can still give us solid minutes as Baynes backup and I think a combination of Bolden and Maker can soak up the rest of the minutes.
Watching the way Exum is playing since he returned for the Jazz, I think he can be a real X factor for us in 2019. He can be brought off the bench to attack second string guards with his speed and length but against teams with wings that are too athletic for Broekhoff, he is tall enough to give us another option. This allows us to keep Ingles at the two and also avoids Simmons having to do it.
The last two spots probably won’t get much time, but I actually think Creek would be good insurance as a third athletic wing if Broekhoff and Exum get in foul trouble. Goulding would be a good option as 12th man because of his shooting.
Just behind Creek you could look at McCarron and if Maker doesn’t perform in camp, it’s not out of the question that Motum could nick his spot.

Ingles has turned out to be a great perimeter defender. You don't want him guarding big men

Simmons play a different position?
Lemanis can ...
Keep the ball in his hands.

Bolden the better long term prospect compared to Maker. It's unreasonable to expect any further improvement after 30 y.o.

Makers time has reduced all year to where he now just sits on the bench, bit early still to call a bust but seems to have not put any weight or improved, could be an age thing. Bolden has done very well in the top euro competition.

That is why Sobey should make the team ahead of Lisch. He specialises in flopping and being a tool whereas Lisch is more just a solid all rounder.

Not sure how anyone has Creek in this team?
If Boomers are going to medal, all players will need to 'specialise' in something....

Why are people preferring Bolden over Maker?
Maker is in the NBA and Bolden is Europe.

Also, Simmions plays the 1 on offense and defends the 3/4. Mills can play the 2 on offense and defends the 1. The rest is matches up on their number.

Give Simmions the ball, run the lanes, cut, screen and spot up.

You do know bolden plays pf at maccabi.
Playing Broekhoff or ingles at pf is just ridiculous.

What's the deal with dual-citizens in BBL?
Can they change their mind about which country they want to represent?

Yeah it's a great "problem" for the Boomers to have, given that the front court isn't really our strength right now. His ability to play defence against a big while still doing his thing with the ball fits in really well with the other international-calibre personnel we have. As does Ingles' new outside shooting ability. Great weapons to be adding.

Simmons
Mills
Ingles
Bolden
Baynes
Delly
Exum
Broekhoff
Maker
Mathiang
Creek
Bogut

Simmons-PG
Mills-SG
Ingles-SF
Bolden-PF
Baynes-C

The Sixers Cavs game today would give you a pretty good idea on how he should be deployed. Spent a lot of time of LeBron on both sides of the ball. Had shooters in redick, belinelli and covington with him and then a big man in Johnson or Holmes manning the middle. Worked pretty well today. A lineup of Mills, Broekhoff, Ingles and Baynes potentially with Simmons seems to be a good one on paper

Regarding Simmons nickname, 'Simba' is the best I got.
Just can't wait to be King

no need to overthink it... they will just play positionless basketball aside from baynes inside

Direct quotes from the article, so ignore their typing errors:
The Gold Coast Blaze basketall club has been orderd to pay it former coach Brendan Joyce more than $300,000 in damages for breach of contract.
Justice Lyons today gave judgment for Joyce at $310,000 but the final figure will not be known until costs and interest are calculated at a later date.Full article
Expensive day for the Blaze.
(For the curious who don't yet know, the "j0yce" thing is an automated process. Brendan, for some reason, insists that it's illegal for me to post about this legal case on the forum, link to the articles, etc. He also thinks people should be stopped from referencing his son as "SoJ".)
FWIW, I think Joyce was right to pursue the Blaze on this and fair to win based on public information. Had a four year contract. Upped and moved. Why wouldn't the Blaze have options or KPIs built into the contract!?
