Are the Hobart Devils a chance in the NBL?
If they can a few thousand in and play for half a season, so be it. The DEC wasn’t going to be starting the revamp till August this year and it will be good to get people in work once this virus gets going.

They would still be better getting the team up and running and playing game in Launceston and even the DEC, if they can complete it in stages. The longer it takes the people will be impatient. Let’s get it happening.

Give me whalers. It was the whaling capital once. You could have a whale as a mascot with bob marley as his side kick. :::)))))

Devils - taken
Tigers - taken
Timbers
Thunder
Sharks
Huskies - potentially could get

Thunder is another option.

As for colours I really hope that they do something truly extravagant with the colour alluding to the Aurora Australis as that would be really eye catching and with many possibilities in terms of which colours they use.
I'd favour Demons over sharks but not much else sounds good.

Whalers, might get some sponsorship from Japan but Greenpeace wont be happy. What about the Baby Seal Clubbers, or clubbers for short.

How about the Tassie Demons.
Different spelling but it was called Van Diemen's Land until 1856.

Tasmanian Sharks or Tasmanian Tigers or Tasmanian Talltimbers.
I’d go tigers but could upset a few in Melbourne.

It’s going to be the timbers.

structures if not already in placnot now.will be soonerrather than later.
the community are keen and in excess or 10000+ kids have been put through clinics and calms and more.
I doubt any NBL club are doing that wellany where in the country.
Bring it on.

Time will tell 'reality', no need for cheap shots.
Re the Afl as a Tasmanian im embarassed and damn frustrated with the money we as a state to the propping up their teams
The question is are Hobart NBL ready the answer is Tasmania is. I live in Hobart literally about to drive to Launceston for a basketball tournament (Launceston classic). Basketball has always been stronger in north an north west at a participation level, that is changing and it is becoming stronger across the whoole state.
Have very strong info that it is happening, there is structure behind it (led by ex premier Bartlett and a dollars it man) along with a real strength they are working with the community both bball and others as it develops.
The $s are there, people and structures in place. Economic sustainability is part of it and is real not sure the structures are in place for se magic and north melb to return?

Reality. Tassie has literally had another election recently.libs got in.
equally the labor party are 100% behind this bid as are Btas. $10mill promised and hopefully another $10mill federal money too.
so much mis information here. The NFL are going to get a real shock soon.
lots to look forward to assuming Kestleman keeps his word. All of his criteria has already been met.

Reality - you mean long term like SE Melbourne Magic or North Melbourne Giants?

"Twins lol, that's MLB. At least be original."
Original, oh you mean like ...
.
.
.
Well there's Cairns

Check this out a Paul Crombie Jersey going on Ebay.

I think Tasmania United has a good ring to it
oh wait Melbourne got that name for some reason, better stick with the Devils

New team is all but confirmed. They are targetting a statewide supporter base, and will split their games between Hobart and Launceston.
Team will be called the Tasmanian Twins, as in Twin Cities.

Early 80s thanks koberulz.
Would love tas to be back in. Have produced nbl talent but as in footy would need state to unite for nbl to be sustainable but after living there i know it will never happen.
Too much divide between 3 parts of the state.
I guess national only means mainland aus

The only place in Australia now with house prices going up is Hobart, Tasmania is getting very popular, some people should do a little bit off research before talking shit.

Reality - what happened to Se melbourne magic and the North Melbourne Giants?
Your cheap shots re Tassie are based on ignorance, growth in economy has been substantial. ...
..secrets out , part of me as a local wants that not to be the case. But quietly happy
There is now investment and growth is substantial if you give it the crane test there is a lot happening
It will be a Tasmanian team not a Hobart team

I’d like Cal back to coach the team. I spat it when he was sacked

Nothing wrong with the Derwent entertainment centre, in full basketball mode should hold 5000 which is a good starting point. Get them in.

They should get in there before an A-League team does which is a real possibility.

The Chargers have won several titles under their current format so you can tick that box. The DEC is modified for them to play in and they are averaging well over 1250 per game. As a Hobartian the reason they had to fold in 1996 was because the NBL said they were not viable, and they were right. The club was run by idiots who ran it into the ground. And it coincided with the state government changing the structure of basketball in the state through the Department of Sport and Recretion to a ridiculous format that nobody liked. The main problem in Hobart now is the old Moonah stadium is run down and needs a new roof. If it rains the games are called off. Warrane and Clarence Stadiums are way too small. The state government need to come through on their promise of a new facility, but until then need to ensure that repairs to Moonah stadium are done

Lock in team from Tas 19/20, $'s there / structures in place -good to go; its happening . It has been prepared methodically and professionally

Thank you Koberulz, I knew that both team existed and that Launceston City Casino won the NBL title and sucked the next season but didn't know how Devonport attained a license to field a team... they will never get another team again unless they can be part of a statewide club that allows them to play games there probably through preseason.
It would be awesome if during heritage round that Launceston and Devonport can have their strips immortalised (maybe they can have those clubs push their ideas for a playing strip and they can be alternative strips and sold at games too!

I do believe launceston and devonport were also in the nbl in the late 80s?Early 80s. Launceston withdrew shortly before the 1983 season and were quickly replaced by Devonport, who only lasted a couple of seasons.

Definitely in th boat of calling NBL team Tassie Devils and having them trying to appease all their fans state wide and hopefully get some Tasmanians back like Bubbles, Waxy and Gibbo as faces the of the team

I do believe launceston and devonport were also in the nbl in the late 80s?

LC it was the Tassie (Hobart) Devils. Do some research if you think you are a journo. The NBL team started out as the Hobart Devils, became the Hobart Tassie Devils, and then returned to being the Hobart Devils.
The 3x3 team appears to be the Hobart Devils.
Neither team name seems to contain a parenthetical.

The numbers playing basketball in Tasmania are huge. They get over thousand spectators to each seabl game, they got the finances let them in.

Can we give up on Tasmania? Nothing good will come from it.

lel the Chargers would have to win a SEABL title first

the best chance for Tassie is the Hobart Chargers, but that's a long shot

Think you will find the name is now taken by a 3X3 team...

What happens if you combine a clownfish with a human....
