Game Day: Boomers v Japan 8:40pm Fox Sports 505

McCarron hasn’t impressed me at the international level as he’s jump shot isn’t reliable. Cadee plays no D, can’t rebound. Kay struggled and was out classed by Fazekas. Kickert offered nothing of note and has no low post moves that worked against them.

Goulding, Sobey both have international games and should have played more to get in rythum. Nobody spoke of Lisch doing zero either.

Delly looked under cooked, as did Lisch. Bringing both guys who have had injury issues wasn’t smart.

Years ago
but he'd better have a bit more of a straight face on Monday.

Yeah I want to see a face that says "Ok, that was actually not good. I need to do better. Also, I've got nothing against Carl, love is love, but personally I'm strictly into women."
Years ago

... and that's without mentioning our underwhelming defence.

Years ago
As for the Boomers, it was nice to finally see "BoomerThon", he will develop a better understanding of how the international game is so different to the NBA. Delly getting some game time was good too.

Obviously nice seeing Delly in green & gold again, and especially Thon in his debut. The type of offence we're running at the moment makes Delly pretty ineffective unfortunately. We also can't afford him to not look to score. He played like it was going to be an easy assist-fest for him last night. He needs to do better at keeping the defence honest.
With Thon, hopefully familiarity to coaches & teammates will improve the way we use him over time, so I'm not too concerned about him.
In the scheme of things the loss itself isn't that meaningful, but I would still hope that we'd be trying to win every game. To me that means sticking with the players who are getting it done rather than just rolling through a scheduled rotation and assuming the win will come.
On the positive side, I liked CG43's game. He actually made things happen, because Japan had to respect him as a scorer.
Most of the other players were too passive though. To me it did not look like we went out there with a "let's beat them" mentality. Looked more like a "let's go through the motions and wait for the trash to lose to us" mindset.

Warning:the following is a rambling observation of last night's game and makes no reference to trash or a person's sexual preference (conscious or unconscious). Thus this post may be in the wrong thread. Sorry.

The Boomers have qualified for the second round so last night's game, and the next against the Philippines, are meaningless in respect to Australia qualifying for the World Cup.

If anything these games are a trial to see who has the goods to make the cut when more overseas based players come back to the program in the coming months.

Japan on the other hand needed to win to keep its hopes alive and playing in front of a supportive home crowd, it had everything to lose. Furthermore, its failure to win a game back in February had a major impact on a very proud national program. The Japanese were primed for last night, the Aussies.... well the result says it all really.

As noted in an early post, a great deal of effort has also gone into improving the domestic game in Japan so last night's result will have them buzzing. Their next game against Chinese Taipei will be intense.

As for the Boomers, it was nice to finally see "BoomerThon", he will develop a better understanding of how the international game is so different to the NBA. Delly getting some game time was good too.

Goulding reinforced his spot on the team while I thought the others hurt there chances. I wonder if Andrej assigned Mr 400K to be the go to on offense to see if he could step up. He gave it his best but fell well short of my expectations. Hopefully he gets better for the experience and can go to the next level.

@ AD; nope, we definitely should have won that game. It was a massive choke job. Just saying that the odd loss here and there won’t do us any harm.

Lemanis scares me going into 2019 & 2020.

If you take out the NBA guys and the guys in Europe. What should the squad look like?

Years ago

Apparently Australia is now guaranteed to avoid the USA in the final round.

Years ago

I agree, Delly will be out the NBA soon.

Years ago
Let's not forget that there were some big rotation changes since we last played. Creek was out, and Delly and Maker in
I think the absence of Creek is a bigger deal than some would care to acknowledge.
Years ago

Lemanis with a Smyth-like defeat of epic proportions. Shame on you Andrej.

Years ago

Andrej Lemanis should be ashamed!

Years ago

Aus were horribad.

Years ago

Who is your team? Don't say Japan just because they won tonight. Pretty sure you are PH.

Years ago

Kay takes last two big shots? WTF
Even leading up to that I couldn't believe how much court time he was getting??
Rotations were bad...
Game plan was poor...
Lemanis was seriously out coached...

Years ago

we missed Simmons, exum, bolden, ingles, baynes.

Years ago

Carl I didn't flag any of your posts. That was koberulz or whoever being offended by the word gay

Years ago

Hey Carl yes we lost. But your team is Philippines so our match up is on Monday. Good luck and see you then.

Years ago

Carl, random anons can't flag posts.

Grow up.

Years ago

the reffing was completely fine. we got beat fair and square. if anything the margin is flattering.

Years ago

The ref was biased towards Japan as well

Years ago
Aus were $1.01 with the bookies before tipoff.

Now in live betting $1.50, finally value. Feast on it boys.

Thank$ lad$!
Years ago

More like 50.

Years ago

Aussie 1st team would beat this japanese team by 30 points.

Years ago

True, it spices things up. But we aren't being arrogant since we were $1.01 to win. That's like Dream Team losing to Puerto Rico at 2004 Olympics type of odds.

Years ago

Def agree with AussiePride about that - a stronger Asia region is good for us long term, and a guy like Hachimura means Japan might end up being a team to push us over the next decade.

Years ago

This puts life into the Asian region. Shuts up arrogant and ignorant Australians who think every game is a walkover and gives the other Asians teams belief. It's all good.

Kay shoot the 3! Who in the hell diagram that play in the timeout! Longley?

Years ago

Bookies had Aus at $1.01 dude. Lemanis choked.

Years ago

Maker had a great debut game for the boomers.

Years ago

I think Lemanis does OK when we've got all our guys available, but his selection choices with the NBL guys leaves a lot to be desired.

Years ago

we deserved to lose. Credit to Japan.
Shows how clueless sone of the people on this forum are. 'Easy win' for us...

Years ago

We play against 55K parochial Philippines crowd on Monday, this is a wake up call. Another loss wouldn't mind though as Lemanis I want out.

Years ago

Can Fazekas play as a local in the NBL now he's Japanese? He's Tom Jarvis with an outside shot and better passing.

Years ago

Lemannis can't coach.

Years ago

Lemanis OUT! Dud coach!

Years ago

Japan looked much better organised.

Years ago

Delly played badly.
Thon had a good game.

Years ago

Basketball is the winner in this one!

Years ago

Delly played badly.
Thon had a good game.

Years ago

Game ball goes to Nick Kay, no question.

Years ago

Australia were $1.01 to win.

This is how bad Lemanis is!

Years ago

Why is Kay even out there?

Years ago

Yesssss finally Lemanis is going to be scrutinised. Sack him!

Years ago

what was that?

Years ago

Classic Nick Kay.

Years ago

Why do they go for brick artist Kay for the game tying three? WTF Lemamis you spud.
