Game Day: Boomers v Philippines 9:30pm EST Fox Sports 505
Here you go Carl. The brawl has its own wikipedia page now, so you can go and add all your real truth to it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippines–Australia_basketball_brawl

It is an interesting issue re: the stickers. On one hand you have PH officials suggesting it is close to desecration. OK, I accept that. Boomers staff did the wrong thing by taking matters into their own hands. However, I sincerely doubt Boomers staff removed the offending court advertising out of spite. Most of the gents in the Boomers squad have played on courts in many countries far and wide (I imagine)... could it be that the stickers WERE in fact slippery and a legit danger? Had any games been held with those stickers intact?
Just curious.
From what I have seen, Luc and Rike (and maybe Delly who by the vision was exceptionally keen to join the fray from the bench) are the only people in this whole debacle who can hold their heads up.

What if the evidence that comes out shows that it was the Philippines trash talking and making racist remarks?

Asia can't stand how good we are. It sucks for them when our C team dominate the continent. Luckily FIBA HQ is in Europe.

Carl, I have ready plenty of comments from the Asian community that contradict your statement. Opinions will differ on alignment. Both teams have to accept responsibility for their part in bringing the game into disrepute. The “ they started first” argument is pretty pathetic. Even taking into consideration Kickerts actions, it’s absolutely no justification for what most of the Filipino team and associates responded with. The whole sticker, racist propaganda is just nonsense.

Even if that gross generalisation was true, that says more about Asia than Australia.

Because one hand picked comment from a Lebanese forums means anything right? I think you will find that anyone out there that matters would be disappointed in both teams and totally and utterly disgusted at the Filipino teams actions. Either way there’s only one opinion that truly matters in all this and that’s FIBA.

Philippines started it by trying to trip Kickert in warmups. Clearly seen in the video.

Angus, he committed the idiotic foul, overreacted in the pre-game lay-up line, taunted then guys chasing him after they stopped (while Goulding was getting pummelled), and flipped the bird at the crowd ant the end. That isn’t what you do when you represent your country.

"Embarrassed the nation"... what BS. Committed a dumb foul, but it would barely have made a single ripple if not for the unbelievably disproportionate response by the Philippines.

Yeah there's a world of grey area between "Ghandi" and attempted decapitation. He could have found a more measured response in there somewhere

I don't know or care what biased boti wrote about the incident but I do agree that Kickert actions should be judged in isolation. In isolation his actions were unwarranted and thuggish and he deserves a substantial suspension.

Boti's article is an interesting point of view, while I think he isn't wrong with most of what he has written so far, it is an objective and impartial review by FIBA that we are all wanting I believe. But also a decision that makes some impact on the world stage, because like it or not, this is world stage stuff...

"Brave guy to go in like that and not join in with a mob mentality. Did he get ejected at all or was he one of the 3 players left?"
I think he is in the squad but was not in the team of 12

Now this is a guy with real character:
Meet Troy Rike, the Filipino cadet who helped fend off Chris Goulding’s attackers.

Great article by Boti summarising what took place and also suggesting what FIBA should do in response:

Some of you might remember the time when "Blowout Troll" saved this location on this GPS. Boy he got plenty on his hook. I can't put my finger on why he came to mind this past week.

Japan is only one venue, every other venue is PH, so effectively a PH-hosted World Cup.
BTW what does their nickname "Gilas" mean?

That was a nasty sucker punch that Sobey copped after the chair hit. At least no one got kicked in the johnnysack.

Re: Philippines hosting 2023 World Cup
Australia should replace them. Wouldn't that be appropriate.

It's good that Carl is on our forum. It gives us an insight to the Philippines mentality which led to the savagery we saw on court.

Words are words Carl, and chairs to the head are chairs to the head. It doesn't matter what was said or happened before, during or after the game, the Filipino players, Coaches, Support Staff & Fans were out of control and reacted appallingly.
What is worse is that no one from the Philippines thinks they have done anything wrong judging by the gloating on social media and the "selfie" the team took court side and their statements to the media. Their accusations of racism and violence before tip off are nothing more than a weak attempt to justify their appalling behavior.
The Coaching Staff and Support Staff deserve the book thrown at them for their conduct and shouldn't have the privilege to have anything to be involved with Basketball again ever and the Players involved deserve every sanction (Kickert included).
I just hope FIBA react accordingly.

Carl now claims he is building Australia's roads. What a classic you are, Carl.

Yes they have lots of videos just like you keep saying yet somehow none of them actually turn out to exist. I admire your vivid imagination Carl.

Just stop, Carl.
Use your school holidays for something fun like watching movies or playing video games.

I agree. Nothing major for BA to do. From an aussie POV the only real problem was an individual action by Kickert, and FIBA will deal with him.

The Australian Basketball team has plenty of heated battles with other Nations such as NZ over the years without incident.
I don't think Basketball Australia have anything to investigate, sure Kickert over reacted to the foul on Goulding but the rest is on the Philippines.
The Boomers bench showed class and restraint while the Filipino's were completely out of control!

Kiwi here too and I have watched the incident over and over.
What was Kickert thinking? Way out of character. Regardless of Goulding or pregame, that was bad. But it should have ended there. Maybe had a heated confrontation between all players, with a bit of push and shove, and that’s it. Kickert gets ejected, the other players get a stern talking to. Move on.
I have a lot of time for the Philippines and it’s people, but the behaviour we saw was despicable and has no place anywhere. That was extreme violence and worse than the Pacers and Detroit because of the way everyone got involved and how after the event many were celebrating and gleeful. Sickening.
The Australian bench showed incredible restraint.

A lot of what is being said in the media and on forums is reactionary and full of passion, some a bit nationalistic and some just outright racist or subjective in the eye of the beholder but some also dealing with facts and common sense thankfully.
I would like BA especially to start dealing with any issues that come to light in regards to character, the reports of a clash in cultural differences, misunderstandings and perceptions of disrespect which seem to have gotten well and truly out of hand in the build up and have likely been a contributing factor in the resulting affray.
Not making excuses or looking for anything that must be done to be seen in a lighter manner, just saying that it is obvious that with more coming out and in the days to come we will start to understand that there are real leadership/cultural/sportsmanship issues that may need to be addressed within the Australian international sport.
I am not concerned with other countries, they need to address their own issues, I am concerned with real investigation and real solutions to any underlying problems we may have in light of what is going on in the world today which our country in some ways is getting sucked into.
Only interested in those who understand what I am referring to, no dick heads please...

I'm a Kiwi so I'm fairly impartial and Kickert is the only Australian who should hang his head in shame. He behaved like an idiot but in no way did that justify the Philippines reaction.
The Philippines Basketball Association deserve a 2 year ban and the WC's hosting rights stripped for how their Players, Coaches, Support Staff, Security & Fans behaved.

Goulding actually copped an errant elbow a couple of passes before the Offensive foul that sparked Kickert's reaction. If that was the tone of the game no wonder there were frustrations boiling over.

^ think you are spot on the money here

Yes, he only appears during the asian qualification games.
Pretty much sums up where he is from. He is Most likely a philipino disguising himself as an Aussie.
