Which was hurt more in the last 24hrs?

Despite it being bad news for the game, this will be forgotten about pretty quickly I'd think. Channel 7 Perth 6pm news- which is heavily skewed to covering as much West Coast Eagles as possible, ran the story with the put down comment at the end - 'basketball is the loser here'. Besides 7 made a bigger story out of the Eagle who had a minor car crash. 9 and 10 went with the basketbrawl story ahead of that.

Channel 9 and 10 felt more balanced. I think it depends on what angle each network is taking on this.

They know they have to report heavily on this as its a major story, but how they report on it depends on their own agendas. 7 is all about AFL and 9 is rugby league. They want to make sure basketball doesnt come out looking good from this. But by the end of the week it will be largely forgotten about as the next round of footy starts.

If nothing else comes from this, at least the country knows that the Boomers are trying to qualify for the FIBA world cup. I reckon most people wouldnt have even known such a tournament even existed before.

The only major implication is people being in fear when travelling to the Philippines in the future and the social/political strain between the two countries.

But regarding basketball and the 'hurt' on Australian basketball... It's non-existent. Although, good point by a bloke on the Project (only time I've ever said that), NBA clubs may not want to allow Aussies to play for their country

Plus, negative things in general provide the opportunity for a public apology later. More coverage and more support/winning back support. All of which equates to positivity.

There are only so many things people genuinely care about for the duration of their lives imo: family, friends, sex, money, sports teams, personal goals/ventures. People don't hold onto negative things that don't directly affect them... People get over things. Politics for example, people like to think they care but they really don't in general

This isn't even bad for Australian basketball. People genuinely don't care about things for long enough for Australian hoops to be affected. This is publicity and any publicity is good.

Life in general moves too quickly and people get over things. Certain Filipinos may hate us for life but that doesn't actually matter. All that conflict does is draw people in; it's a formula media has used since it became privatised. Probably before that

Got me in. Coverage ultimately can only be good for game. Create controversy, create interest. Saw it towards the end of last nbl season, perth sixers brawl, refs decisions, nbl league innuendo. Page for page, right out of the Afl playbook

NBA thing is worse. For a league with 30 teams and most are just wasting their time now.

FIBA is fine since PH were in the wrong, and luckily (somehow) our players didn't get injured.
