Liz Cambage sets WNBA record with 53-point game
more like a Mahayana Buddhist judging by her interview on the project

^^^^ dont see anyone wanting to "beatify" her on here, most either don't like her at all, or don't like her attitude / personality but acknowledge she is a very good player that could be a great player!
plus i doubt she is a practicing catholic!! :)

More since it's their own (a US) league and it is a scoring record. ESPN are also a WNBA broadcast partner.

I posted re her inner struggles earlier.
One of the best things she can do now is carry memories and recording of her performances in this game and interview. She can use it to focus for future success and mental rehearsals of what she plans to do.
She must be feeling good about her game now. She also has every right to be proud of her attitude and media performance.
This is what Liz can be, and what she should aim to be.

Aw , yes you did ....i seen plenty ... saw it all video on adelaidenow....then saw all the tv news services here in adelaide... all pretty good ... plenty of it....

While I would rate 'the past couple of weeks' in first sentence a major under-statement, the second sentence suggests she might have actually got the message re her on-court demeanour/behaviour.
Today's twitter 'tude towards Mechelle Voepel (one of the most respected WNBA journos) suggests she might have got the message but really doesn't like being reminded of it.

Hell of a game, and so far she's had a hell of a season. Hopefully she can keep this up for Worlds later in the year. Beasting. Well done to her.

I got the impression of her just getting warmed up ...wouldnt blow out a candle.. probably will do it agen...
Good to see it on all the tv news ......while rachel sporn on ch2news reckons she will catch jackson ....

Absolutely terrific to see another Australia dominating overseas, well done to Liz, she should be a legend and will be if she can keep up this output, and be focused.
She is definitely an enigma and I hope she has a few more huge games ahead so we can talk about her achievements.
Keep up the great work and I hope your shot keeps dropping

Shame none of that was seen in T'ville game 3.
@Thunder Jam
Haha, actually I'd probably back Townsville's D against NY's weak wfforts today. Batkovic could handle her better one-on-one than Vaughn/Stokes/Zahui B did, and the Fire's help D > NY's token efforts.
But when she's out there knocking down threes like that as well... 53 is gonna happen. Talk about in the zone.

Couldn't have happened to a worse person

Great game.
Inconsistent player.
At her best simply brilliant.
History of aggression.
At times believes she’s being victimised.
She has spoken out about her inner struggles. Aggression is the obverse of the coin of depression. I don’t condone bad behaviour, but I have some insight into what may drive it.

Exactly right Duke fan
No doubt she can play a good game of basketball if she chooses too, she’s certainly had enough training put into her to warrant that she can play
But she’s also very good at playing the victim, and that’s the excuse not only she uses but seems some fans here too
And really it’s run it’s race, she’s the victim of her own poor choices in attitude and behaviour
These flashes of all that training as that’s what they are never last unfortunately, it may be said that you need an ego at an elite level but their is a huge difference between an ego of confidence and an ego of arrogance

Actually the point I was making is that numerous famous sporting folk manage to get through their life in the spotlight and it's attendant difficulties without being a complete twat.
But yes, everyone is different. I don't expect everyone to be the same, but I don't have to approve of or like those whose response is twatness

@Duke Fan, I guess you are suggesting everyone must behave the same way and everyone is the same, reacts the same and should do so?
Remember also that social media wasn't what it is today in LJ's time...
The rebel in Liz is also what makes her who she is, LJ was different, but also came through at a very different time with different circumstances I'm sure.
Not making excuses either, my point was that people don't always react of cope the same way...

53 points. Plus 10 boards and 5 blocks. 17/22 FG, 4/5 3P, 15/16 FT.
Brutally efficient game.
Oh, and in 36:56 on court.
Plus she was spinning not one but two turntables while all gatheting all of those stats. Impressive!

That line is absolutely ridiculous. I wish she were less of a toddler in other aspects.
I do think she suffers for being female. There are men whose terrible attitudes destroy extraordinary potential but both their potential and attitude stand out less because there are more men with similar attributes.
Your line above is absolutely ridiculous. Misandrist.

"Just imagine yourself, for a moment, being a female, being famous, being a star sportsperson, standing out like a sore thumb everywhere you go, people always staring at you and judging you for what you look like, what you wear, everything you say and how you act is magnified 10 times above the norm."
You mean like Lauren Jackson? How was her off court behaviour?

That performance partly demonstrates why she gets the flak she does. People can see what she is capable of and have for a long time.
Partly, yes. For actual basketball fans that is the source of the frustration.
Then on the other hand there are the trolls / people who just hate her, who don't even watch the game, but just like to pile on when there is an opportunity to say something negative about her.

Ego is important for high level sports, those who have the ambition and character to do what it takes to be a professional sports person is far removed from us normal, average soles.
For all those out there knocking her for her character and behaviour:
Just imagine yourself, for a moment, being a female, being famous, being a star sportsperson, standing out like a sore thumb everywhere you go, people always staring at you and judging you for what you look like, what you wear, everything you say and how you act is magnified 10 times above the norm.
Now, imagine how you might need an above the normal level of support, understanding and empathy in your life to cope with all of this and try to ask yourself how you would be today if you had to cope with a life like hers for the past 10 years?
Be honest with yourself and tell me, if you are a critic, are you just an arm chair warrior or are you being a humanist? Would you react by being defensive of yourself?
Someone told me recently, a young kid, he said you know what, we have a lot of humans but not enough humanity...
Clever kid that!

15/16 free throws, yep someone got her way with the refs, it’s like Groundhog Day lol

Isn’t this the same scenario that happened in the WNBL, she had few games in a row where she was either ejected, tech fouled out and bitched loudly about it, next game she came out and blitzed the field, got away with e eruthing and had everything called in her favour and then almost gave everyone the two finger salute as she left.

It's all good.
Games like that are exactly why some people get so frustrated by her.
It has been clear for years what she was capable of as a player, but she's her own worst enemy attitude-wise. At the same time I kinda love the parts of her personality that don't involve acting like a baby on the court.
A lot like Diana Taurasi in some respects, who is one of the best to ever do it, but there are elements of her game that really piss me off as a fan.

Yeah mate, sorry I didn't read that one in time, I agree that Anon is clueless, my response would be directed at that response for sure, not yours...

(and yeah it doesn't help that there's a WNBA 2018 thread and a dedicated Cambage thread and now a dedicated Cambage 53 points thread!)

@Bear it was just tongue in cheek.
If you read the last 7 or 8 posts in the Liz Cambage thread you'll see where I was coming from.
R.I.P. to that clueless anon who kept doubling down on "Her talent if you can call it that is she's tall, that’s about where it stops"

Happy for Luuuc to relate my comment back to the other thread and point it at those knocking her instead of him directly if that is the case!

Too many threads these days, if that's the case fair enough, I was only looking at this one.

@Luuuc, I'll bite, so you don't credit her for a +90% rating from the free throw line, or the fact she was hitting 3's and jump shots like a small forward, or that she dominates the defensive paint and makes her opponents change their shot/decisions, or that she makes her team mates better when she is on court, or that she is fit enough to play over 30 minutes in a game at the highest level?
And she's a bloody Aussie baller with skill mate, really you think she only brings height...?
Okay, so I have bitten, now it's your time to respond!

and selected for all star game
