Geelong Big V Divy 1 Men

What happened to Colac playing Big V?

Did the club get cold feet with the idea? They would have been able to put together a handy D2 mens side

No brainer to have Colac come enter the league

Be great to gain another country association

Are Surf Coast looking Big V? Aren’t they quite new?

Colac makes perfect sense and with an import would be a solid D1M team

How are Geelong United going to have a SCW team? I'm not sure combining 2 average YL teams will make up a SCW team? And you going to have another 2 imports on top of all the other players they buy in for their NBL1 team.

Years ago

Things have changed quickly and the Big V will surely accommodate those teams eligible as they apply to enter.

Colac has a very suitable three court stadium with ample crowd space and can easily enter Big V D1 if they get some players spilled out from the Corio Bay + Geelong merger and an import or two, it's up to them if they want to fund it I guess.

So can Bellarine and Surf Coast Associations if they want to spend on imports. Whether they enter D1 or D2 will be up to them and how their lists look after this merger because the next SCM and SCW teams will probably come from the United Geelong Association.

Agree way too many teams in D1.

I think they will be going into D2.

BigV d1 doesn’t need another spread out team in the league. Unless it forces the league to make it two conferences instead of ridiculous double header demands the league already has.

I believe Colac are applying for Big V this year? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Have Colac applied for Big V? They would be able to feild a reasonable D2M side

Maybe they could catch the queenscliff fairy to Sorrento and play for Mornington

They will send a couple back to Youth League, sit Varley/s on bench of new league team and re-lease others. Yes Bear Corio Bay seems the logical and if they can stay in SCM an option for those left hanging

Melton is over an hour away from geelong

Surely it won't be called Premier League.

I could be wrong, it has happened, lol, but here are the possibilities for those men and women who are Big V level but rules will not allow to continue to play at Geelong with Supercats in the current format:

1. Colac - has a decent, new stadium and with the support of local officials and sponsors could muster up enough cash to enter Big V with players from Geelong, also they are in the CBL again this summer so if they want to explore the options they could. (About 50 minutes from Geelong)

2. Bellarine, similar to Colac, however their stadium is old and tired, may need to consider an upgrade or playing games elsewhere under their Bellarine Storm banner. (About 30 minutes from Geelong)

3. Surf Coast is the unlikely candidate because they are still a young Association, still growing and I am uncertain they have a venue suitable, but it would not take much for them to be a contender as they are growing fast. (About 20 minutes from Geelong)

4. Corio Bay, unlike the other three and as I have stated already have the two team (four including women) structure for Big V and therefore can't expand further. Should enter CBL and continue to grow using these platforms, however the current rules for Big V if held limit the number of teams for them and everyone else. (10 minutes from the new stadium Geelong use @AWA and 15 minutes from the Arena).

Bellarine, Surf Coast and Colac Associations. Bear tell us more

Years ago

Corio Bay the same, can't field a third team as they already have YL and Senior Men/women.

Years ago

@Big V Fan, maybe lower your vision just a little there mate.

Much closer or more convenient options for those players who want to remain in the Greater Geelong area would also include the Bellarine, Surf Coast and Colac Associations.

We will all find out soon enough, however Werribee and Melton as you have indicated already have senior Big V programs, so a team full of players will have to look elsewhere...

The new tiers/pathway for senior basketball in Victoria, presuming what we know is correct ,would leave Geelong with no option.
Pathway would be Big V Youth League straight to Premier League. To be fair other options in the region to play senior Basketball including Werribee, Corio Bay, Melton etc

Enjoy lunch and listen to one of footy's most controversial names, Sam Newman at the Adelaide Arena on Friday 11th May.

36ers legend Brett Maher will host the day and will interview Crows Champion and good friend Andrew Mcleod.

Tickets are $75 or a table of 10 is $700 and includes a 3 course meal and drinks package.

It should be a fun afternoon (12-3pm).

Bookings are essential - call Paul on 83450429 or email paul@adelaidearena.com.au.
