Aussie in Europe: 2018/19 Season

A host of Aussies are now either finishing off their European campaigns or engrossed in playoff action. Xavier Cooks and his German club s.Oliver Würzburg went close to lifting the FIBA Europe Cup last week, while Brock Motum’s Anadolu Efes Istanbul advanced to the EuroLeague Final Four as we wrap up another week if Aussie men in Europe.

First year professional Xavier Cooks had a massive week in Europe, helping his side win the first leg of the FIBA Europe Cup semi-finals, before dominating again in the German Bundesliga.

Feel bad for Griffin. Kickin butt in the wnbl but doesn't have a chance of making the opals with Whitcomb in this form. Our guard situation is sooo bad atm. We really need her.

Sami Whitcomb and Abby Bishop have led their respective sides through the EuroCup Women’s regular season, both advancing to the next stage. The Aussie duo have done it in style too, with Whitcomb exploding for a season-high 40 points, with both inside the league top 5 in scoring average, while Alice Kunek is set to join them in the next stage too.

After a break for the FIBA World Cup qualifying window, the European leagues were all back in action across the past week. Just like they did in college, Xavier Cooks and Jock Landale were in the limelight in helping lead their respective teams to victory.

Another week and another big performance from Jock Landale in Europe, while Ben Madgen continues to remind everyone that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

Ben Madgen made an off season move from Lithuania to Germany, and duly exploded for 31 points in the opening round of the Bundesliga!

It was a good result to be back in the finals after missing out last season, but it was a bit disappointing to finish fifth.

I was hoping we would finish a bit higher, but the season-ending injury to Eva Afeaki in December really hurt us.

We had started very strongly, but with Eva going we lost our key post player and if the injury had have come in any other role we would have been able to cover it.

We were near the top of the table at the time, but we weren't able to stay there.
Getting injuries at bad times didn’t help us, but that happens to every team.

It was great to make the finals, but I think we need to improve.
