Matthew Dellavedova NBL
And, as this is a Delly thread, yes, he's definately in.

I like most of what appears above but also wonder if another big might be prudent. Love Baynes/Bogut but Bogut's health/fitness worries me a little. In other threads, several contributors have (strongly) suggested that he would struggle (with health/injuries etc) during an NBL reason. But WC's and Olympics are virtual seasons, played within 2 weeks. Much more chance of mishap there, I think.
Motum is mentioned above and IMO Bairstow/Jervis/DJ/Ogilvey, one of them should be "insurance" in that position.
We are blessed with 1,2,3 combinations and of course Simmons can add to any position on the court but knowing the depth in all other positions, I really would like a "big" back-up, even if not used.
If we were to lose Bogut, especially early in the competiton/s, we would have problems covering the loss and still play "our" game plan. Someone else, who will have a different natural and expected/expectant role will have to change. Lose Baynes (say, through injury) and the problem really hits hard. Could we start Bogut and expect him to have the same influence he would deliver coming off the bench, or would Simmons/Maker sacrifice their game to fill the void.
Nothing at all wrong going 4-out/1-in, but I would want to, rather than be forced to.
No disrespect to Creek but I feel that the arguement against McCarron's inclusion applies to Creek, in this scenario. As good as Creekis, my feeling is that another big is more important.
Am I terribly off the mark?

Simmons can guard 1-5 easy..
Not sure people even watch the NBA.

He might carry the ball sometimes, but he ain't defending PGs, and he will be surrounded by shooters as much as possible. My money is on him being in a feeder spot more often than being the primary ball-handler.

No way simmons doesn't start at pg.

I think Simmons will guard 3s and 4s and play a similar offensive role to Bogut in Rio where he can use his passing skills as well as being in a position to score from the mid-post that's hard for help defence to cover.
Baynes/Bogut
Simmons/Maker/Bolden
Ingles/Broekhoff/Creek
Mills/Goulding
Dellavedova/Exum
The other player I think is a real chance is McCarron now he's shown he can play some PG, he gives real versatility, cover for an injured PG and solid D. He could grab the 11th or 12th spot.

I love the idea of Bogut coming off the bench with 5 fouls in his back pocket, what he'd do for an extra foul in the Spain game!

Wouldn’t call Baynes a 4. But I agree with Cram. Lineups of Mills/Exum, Broekoff, Ingles, Simmons, Baynes really covers off a lot of areas. We could defend most any team with that lineup plus offensive play off Baynes/Simmons PNR with Mills, Broekoff, Ingles spotting up. Pretty lethal. The only thing that would hurt is a guard with size & speed so may need Exum to defend them & sacrifice a big of shooting at the other end.

I think Maker and Bolden need a lot of work and are by no means locks (as I mentioned above). Motum is a good option still.
I think we'll end up seeing a lot of line ups without a natural 4, for example Simmons-Ingles-Broekhoff-Baynes with one of Mills/Delly/Exum. These line ups would enable a lot of switching, be quick and have good balance.
I would be surprised if finishing line ups (if not starting)didn't feature that kind of alignment.
That's not to say those bigger players won't play at all, I just think with Simmons we can play smaller and still not give up the rebounding and size.

Simmons
Ingles
Broekhoff
Maker
Baynes
Exum
Mills
Adel
Bolden
Bogut
Dellavedova
Creek

I think ingles has proved he can guard the smaller guys.

Kelly wouldn't necessarily put up huge numbers in the NBL but his teams would be much better off for having him, that's for sure.

Delly would be a star in the NBL, period lol.
As for the Boomers line ups, I wouldn't worry too much about that. We've got guys who can do a bit of everything at every position and we are versatile enough to switch it up as we need. But Delly is clearly a lock for that team and it is silly to suggest otherwise. Delly and Bogut will probably come off the bench. And for those who scoff at the idea of Bogut, I say Bogut is a part of this team until someone takes the spot from him and no one has done it yet. Same goes for Delly. There is no one whose taken than 2nd or 3rd pg spot from him yet and I don't see it happening in the meantime.

I don't see a team with Simmons/Broekhoff/Ingles playing the 1-2-3 getting a lot of minutes. As I said in my post above, you need the smaller, quicker guards defensively. While Simmons plays the PG offensively, on D he usually picks up a wing or even a 4.

Delly is a good enough shooter at FIBA level. He works very well as a nominal PG next to Simmons. Patty is obviously the first choice, but Delly will likely be his back up. Exum can play as Simmons' back up. There's plenty of room for all of them to get minutes. We need those smaller guards defensively too.

I don't think you could count guys like Adel, Bolden and Maker as certain yet. I think they're a very good chance, and probably the best choice, but not locks.

Exum played very well yesterday(was better than Rubio). We willl know more by seasons end. Not sure Delly will get any minutes with Brogden, Bledsoe and divencenzo ahead of him.
I think this is a certain 11 for the WC. Just 1 guard spot open.
Simmons/Exum/Dellavedova
Mills/?
Ingles/Broekhoff/Adel
Maker/Bolden
Baynes/Bogut
Could be a lot of players playing out of position too. Might see ingles playing guard which might give creek a chance to make it over Goulding.

Anyone who saw him perform at the Olympics in Rio would know he'd be a star in the NBL.

He scored in double figures 4 times last season, shot 36%, barely hits a 3, and is a career 39% shooter. He's not NBA standard and would not even be a star in the NBL. Only reason he is still there is that insane contract. There is nothing he does well. They'd be better off buying him out.

The question will be whether Delly prefers money or playing basketball, because he wont be getting minutes wherever he lands, and I think the answer will be playing basketball. And he will get a far better chance to do that and prolong his playing time in the NBL.

I don't think its outrageous at all. Having said that, I think it will be Delly's decision (much like Bogut).
One DNP-CD doesn't kill a career and I think Delly will get his chance during the season to show that he's still valuable.
With his reputation for hustle and being part of some very good teams, someone will give him a veterans minimum deal (at least) as a veteran presence/3rd PG (as mentioned above).

After this contract, he’ll be 30. He isn’t a great shooter so he’ll be competing against prospects coming through who may offer a better mix of skills. BBIQ and shooting don’t really age. Hustle maybe? Speed, likely does. He has a $9m deal now.
I think the Bucks played 10-11 yesterday and he didn’t get a run. I don’t think NBL after his contract or so is an outrageous prediction, is it?

I think any reasonable onlooker knew that Delly's time in the NBA was going to be a limited thing, and that he was only going to be effective in certain situations. But full credit to the guy, he played a few memorable seasons and made a whole lot of money. But yes, I expect to see Delly in the NBL before 2020, and I think he will come here as opposed to Europe because he's already set for life, and he's such a stand-up bloke that he'd want to give back to the NBL. Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him at South East Melbourne. And I have nothing bad to say about the guy. He maxed out his potential, overcame his shortfalls and became an NBA champion. But maybe it's time to come to the NBL, maybe be the best Aussie guard here, and get some playing time as opposed to languishing on NBA benches.

Yeah Melbourne hasn't just been voted the most liveable city 7 of the last 8 years. And if you have ever lived in Europe you'd know that Europeans are very racist.

or maybe he would be fine with raising children in a progressive and cultured European city rather than a racist bogan one down under

Delly would be around 30 then, and I'm sure kids would be on the agenda. You'd think he like to raise his children near friends and family rather then in some shitty European town.

I think Delly will find a role as a steady hand, good locker room vet minimum guy who can be a 3rd string point guard when his current contract expires. NBL still a long way off for him.

I would absolutely love to see Delly in the NBL when he finishes up in the NBA. Him leading a scrappy underdog regional team would be so good.

Delly probably 3rd choice pg for the boomers now behind exum.

Yeah, south Melbourne team.

I'm actually rather excited to see who will be heading where.
Last year only a handful of Aussies changed clubs (Dillon, Weigh, Helliwell), but it looks like it will be a heck of a lot more.
Schenscher, Crosswhite, Tragardh, Ballinger, Harvey, Walker, Dillon, Creek, Nevill & Crawford would probably be the 10 biggest names that could be on the move.
Make you predictions below
Schenscher - Starting to think Adelaide will get this done.
Crosswhite - Sydney seems to be a done deal
Tradgardh - Same with Cairns
Ballinger - Hoping he is still a Sixer, but Melbourne looks likely.
Harvey - Sydney
Walker - Sydney
Dillon - Gold Coast
Creek - Will remain in Adelaide
Nevill - Gold Coast
Crawford - Will remain a Croc.
