WNBL Round 7
Great to see, especially after the discussion last week. She'll improve her consistency one she finds her fitness and form, as we are seeing.

Cool to see POTW rewarding something other than points & boards.
Madgen wins it for her 15 points, 14 assists, 0 turnovers (plus 3 boards & 3 steals)
I like it.

Hard to attract sponsors if no one is turning up too, which is something BasketCase podcast mentioned last week. Would be horrible if Adelaide couldn't be part of the competition in the future.
They did well today, pushing the Boomers. Sydney could really do with Nicholson back, great gain for Adelaide. Coffey could be the best big in the league behind Suzy atm.
Melbourne of course have too much talent. If it's not Allen, it's Ohea, etc etc

It's time to scrap the current wnbl and align it with its nbl counterparts.
Has to be done asap. It cannot run as a stand alone league.

most likely it's about sagovt closing downMAC , re no more lightning , ...although i mentioned that before...

Is Alex Bunton also injured?

Lightning’s WNBL extinction threat
ADELAIDE Lightning - one of the state’s most iconic sporting teams - is staring at possible extinction again unless a white knight investor can fill a $500,000-a-season black hole which threatens its WNBL licence.
the rest of the article is behind a pay wall

Cool that we've got another live stream. Would be nice if that Fox Sports page was bit larger so it could fit all of the round's live games on it before the start of the weekend.

Any word on Wilson's injury?

That's some scoreline from the Lynx! Feel for Sydney though, they're in a tough position and it's not like they started badly at the start of the season, some really close games.
Rangers winning again too keeps the middle of the table interesting.

Very smooth training drill for the Lynx today as they piled on 113.
That did look bad for Wilson :( Fingers crossed for good news.

Wilson has left the Flames game with a serious looking knee? Injury.

Wow. Play by play made it look like it was the game of the season so far. Amazing job in the second half Canberra. Lots of players stepping up. Going to be a great season if they and Perth push can consistently push Melbourne.

Would have like to see this one. Nurse and the Caps steal it at the end of a 39-26 second half.

Magbegor off the bench, Grant going from starting to not get any minutes, the depth on this Boomers team is just scary.
Impressive by Canberra to claw back into. Rocci >>>>> Conti is a really interesting trend developing this season.

Magbegor, Smith, and mangakahia expected to be drafted this year and next.

Both Whitcomb and Griffin making strong cases.
Eurocup
Whitcomb - 27/7/4 (82 ft% 58 3pt% 64 fg%) - 3 games
Wnbl
Griffin - 20/11/2 (76 ft% 31 3pt% 49 fg%) - 7 games

Who could be a future naturalised player since
Whitcomb is now 30 (88) (likely won't go beyond 2022 WC)
Griffin is 31 (87) (2020 Olympics looks to be last possibility)
Mitchell is 33 (85) (opals career looks over imo)
Or do we have more depth in each position in the near future?

well , i looked at wnbl website and griffin is first in points , second in rebounds for this league......... always seems to be good reason to leave her outta opals and bring in smith burton joyce...

Sorta WNBL-related …
AP recently polled WNBA coaches/GMs about what next year's WNBA draft might look like. It's very early days of course but Ezi Magbegor came in at pick #10.
WNBA coaches, GMs tab McCowan for top pick in mock draft

In the TOTW article this week they mentioned that Griffin now has a league-high 4 TOTW (out of a possible 6), but that would just refer to this season.

Courtney Williams was in 7 consecutive TOTW last season, though not to start the season.
The season prior, Sami Whitcomb was in 8 out of the first 9 TOTW.

5 times in team of the week in just round 7 ......why that's pretty good , 'cause 4 outta 6 aint been done before....

Big congratulations to Jasmine Trimboli, for making the girls team. Good luck and have a great time.Teams up on basketball NSW site.
