Should home teams stay in hotels as well

Brings back memories of West Ham-Tottenham in 2006, two London clubs facing each other off in the last game of the season. Tottenham needed a result to qualify for the Champions League but the whole squad got food poisoning at their hotel the night before. They could've stayed at home.

Dumbest idea I have heard in a long time.

A relatively juvenile thread turned adult. Well done team hoops.

I believe the Canberra Raiders had some success doing this as well. There is something in this idea but it is all a question of $$$$$$

They do it in college football; mainly because otherwise athletes have to stay in mixed dorms on Friday nights where partying is probably non-stop = no sleep and distraction. Plus these programs have money to do that kind of stuff.

But when you're talking about adult athletes - a lot of them either have their own space, flat together or live with their partners/wifes so you don't have the same issue.

There is also a whole body of sport science that says staying in your own bed, being in your own environment/relaxed pre-game enhances performance significantly - above and beyond any "bonding advantages" you get from staying in a hotel.

I heard at the time that when Canberra Cannons had a season where their away record was considerably better than their home record, their first home finals game was treated like an away game, with the players and coaches "travelling" to a hotel etc.can't be arsed finding the season.

Isn't this exactly what Perth did before game three of the grand final in 1995?

Home teams should also go on a flight before each home game, because team bonding can happen on planes too.
