Tiny Pinder broke the backboard against Brisbane in 1988. I believe he also ripped one down in training the same year. Pretty amazing for a one handed dunk!

Wrong, he did it in the NBA too:

Following the 1992–93 season the NBA increased steel brace strength and increased stability of the backboard to prevent the hoop from falling down after Shaquille O'Neal broke two goal standards the previous season (although the glass remained intact, welds in the goal standard failed).
So technically no.

Has it happened in NBA!? Shaq was shattering backboards ON THE REG.

Scott Ninnis broke one at the Apollo in the warm up and delayed the game by about 30 minutes

Sorry. My original post referred to Dalton’s shatter- that was in the warm-up. I think 1985.

Wasn’t the gorilla’s shatter-fest in a dunk comp though?
I think it would be less common in game time.

Thanks both.
Props for the YouTube vid.

Saw Tiny Pinder smash one at Challenge Stadium (or Perth Superdrome as it was known back then). Not sure exactly when but I'm guessing 1987 or 1988.

20 yrs have passed since the dominance of the Dream Team.
Question: who would win ?
Seriously think of how the game has changed, yeah 92 they had bigs that would win outright but look at today's athletes.
Could the Dream Team stop James? Durant? An ageing Bryant?Chris Paul would kill the 92 squad. I'm thinking this would be closer than you think.
Tyson Chandler Patrick Ewing
Carmelo Anthony David Robinson
Kevin Durant Karl Malone
Blake Griffin Charles Barkley
LeBron James Larry Bird
Kevin Love Magic Johnson
Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan
James Harden Chris Mullin
Andre Iguodala. Christian Laettner
Chris Paul John Stockton
Russell Westbrook Clyde Drexler
Deron Williams Scotty Pippen
