I think it’s OK for Perth fans to be worried now
Adelaide and Brisbane are definately the 2 form teams. The Wildcats are seriously looking over their own shoulders with very twitchy ring holes right now.

Kay & Norton were a bargain at 150k a head. Considering the 9/10000 bums on seats Perth have the resources to throw more than enough cash to secure almost anyone they like.
We all love Cotton but like all super stars from the USA scouting reports are limiting him unlike any previous season
Wagstaff in a Boomers Jersey under Leumanis played well. Can only guess why he underperforms under Gleeson’s direction. Hire is yesterday.
As Hawks supporter we can, along with Cairns only lament our financial inadequacies and pray that both teams will turn up each year. You should too instead of navel gazzing .

"it's by al stewart and year of the cat is the name. don't get it mixed up with year of the flamin' useless cats by alf stewart."
LOL

"Wasn't there a song "The year of the cat" in the 70s???"
it's by al stewart and year of the cat is the name. don't get it mixed up with year of the flamin' useless cats by alf stewart.

Actually I’m pretty sure there is a song that is about a cat, or mentions a cat or has a word in it that rhymes with cat. Use that one, and then just change some more lyrics around and man oh man that will be funny as hell.

Wasn’t there a song “The year of the cat” in the 70s???
Or was it just a line from a song??
That’d be good for irony value

“*googles every song title that mentions cats
I love jokes!”
Actually the only song from the google search was by Kennedy’s kitchen. It sounds lame. I was pretty confident that the Dead Kennedy’s would have a song about dead cats, but alas. The others are all classics, but I like the idea of “a dead cat, lying in the middle of the road/ and it’s stinking to high heaven.”
BTW London Wainwright III performed a couple times on MASH, and is Rufus and Martha’s Dad.

I got the impression of Joey Wright being a Terrico White fan.......
usually you worry about refs only

I still remember being slammed on here for having the audacity to claim that the Wildcats had had a pretty easy run of games while they had their injury troubles.
In hindsight its bizarre how different those Wildcats teams looked while missing key guys, regardless of who they played against.

UseTaHoop, that's beautiful. Added to the list.
Also thinking of the classic 'Cats in the cradle no more silver spoon'

good news for Cairns since they seem to love dumpster diving outside the cats office
Actually I think the reasoning behind coming out and saying that publicly serves dual purposes in silencing some in the fan base calling for him to retire and also putting pressure on the Wildcats to keep him around a bit longer so he retires a one club player.

Manu
Stray cat strut by Stray Cats
Stray cat blues by Rolling Stones
The little things in life (the Dead Cat Song) by Kennedy’s kitchen
Or could you edit London Wainwright III’s classic “Dead skunk in the middle of the road”? (“And it’s stinking to high heaven”).

Gleeson is making his own playlist starting with this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R-dDM37Cf8

Chairman, great find. The fact that it's a terrible song makes it even better for this purpose

Back on topic...we should be very worried, especially if no brutal changes are made prior to next season.

Never said Adelaide was MORE racist than Perth, said it's the place I've personally experienced the most racism. Shame that it happened, otherwise my experience in Adelaide was fantastic.

@ Cats for life, that sucks, but I'm not surprised. I lived in Adelaide for 2 years and haven't never experienced as much racism as I did over there. I remember going to an Eagles vs Power game and Eagles won, as I was leaving some dude said to me, "what would you know about football anyway, you're Asian". One of many experiences over there compared to a relatively racist free life time here in Perth.

good news for Cairns since they seem to love dumpster diving outside the cats office

Wagstaff checking out Retirement Villages
He might look close to done but Wagstaff has no intention of retiring anytime soon. In an interview for his 300th game on the NBL's website he said he's only 32 even though a lot of people assume he's older and he intends to play for a few more years yet.

The streak ending would hit the budget they're so worried about. Would be quite apt IMO.

Party outside Brisbane Convention and Entertainment Centre when Perth fails to make playoffs. DJ Manu taking requests.
So far I've got:
David Bowie -- Dancing in the streets
Kool & the gang -- Celebration

With no cap, why would they cry poor? They've had monster crowds and charged up for tickets. They'd have serious profits from recent years.
I think they've sat on their hands for reasons other than budget. I imagine the thinking is that an incoming import isn't going to take minutes from Kay, Norton, Cotton, White, Martin, maybe Brandt. So what role would they have available? A lot of modern basketball is having a well-drilled roster that knows the plays inside out. You'd be betting against Wagstaff and Hire who would know their plays as well as anyone - that's been a part of their success over the years. Whatever a new scorer brings, they may undo with rocking the boat or missing defensive assignments.
I'd say they're erring on the side of "we can turn this around with incremental changes" rather than a bigger gamble.

“Agree with UTH”
I might have to change my id to UseTaHooper. Then I can really be just 1 UTHer opinion. Cause that’s all we are.

Further to Kay & Norton being future investments:
what length are their contracts;
when are Jarvis, Wagstaf and Vague out of contract? We can’t know what $ they’re on, but that figure will be free when they’re off contract.
Is Martin continuing, and if so does his contract include a set payment for next season?
If he’s off contract, he’d still be worth keeping for veteran leadership and reduced minutes, and might be amenable to earning a lesser amount that would be included in the lowest 5 salaries. Again, this would free up $ for an improved roster next season.
With Phoenix in next season, Perth could be in a very good position if Kay and Norton are signed for a few seasons, because Australian talent will be harder and more expensive to sign.

Yeah, I don't think that you can fault where Perth have spent their cash this season... Norton, Kay and Cotton, it's just that their support staff hasn't really been up to scratch...
Silver lining, at least next season we might get to see what it's like with Matty as a head coach? And it might be good for Cats fans to have an off season and have their playoff streak end... start fresh, test the team a bit and see what they can do...

“Can't say they didn't spend up in the off-season - Kay and Norton were expensive but smart moves. Maybe too much reliance on Wagstaff and Hire carrying through another year.”
I think Isaac’s right there.
We can’t know for sure, but I think Wildcats management decided to make those 2 the “big spend” for season 2018/19. I suspect that coaching staff entered the season knowing that there would be no more funds available to buy new players during the season.
Kay and Norton are an investment for the future, but the ageing bench contributors haven’t been able to get enough done. Perth looked good in early season, but struggling now others have topped up.

Two of those years they lost stars to season-ending injuries, the third they got within something like five points of the championship. They were never far off.

Ah no, he inherited the remains of a team which had last won a title four years earlier, and immediately got a title out of them, then two more in the next three seasons.

I hope Gleeson stays because he's crap. He inherited a championship team and had his success from Bevos creation. He was lucky the 36ers lost to Bevos Hawks a few years back when they had Randle too.

Ok as atrocious as the Wildcats are playing and bloody oath they certainly are, that doesn't mean that we as fans and members shouldn't go absolutely ballistic the whole game vs Melbourne... we have a right to be angry as we all pay for overpriced seats with overpriced beverages and food... but we normally get to see a win.
That's not the case right now and we aren't getting value for money. For those wondering about the Taipans game; we are never loud vs them as there is too many ex Wildcats in that squad and we were basically moaning with the occasional laughter until the last couple of minutes of the game when it got closer.
We should be doing better than that and if Wildcats still suck, then a boycott is an idea.

^^^ I'm shocked you're a cock head

I'm shocked Cats for Life!
I didn't think you were old enough to be married and have a 5 year old of your own.

I'm disappointed too CFL. There were a row of empty seats in front of me and with a good view. I would have invited you up if I had seen your post during the game. You would not have been abused.
Re A/C, I believe it is the original evaporative system, works ok on hot dry days but not so well on days like today.

Josh Childress is not fixing the slop that was served up tonight.

No need for 3rd import, shots ain't dropping, having good looks it's a confidance thing now. Only so much gleeson can do.
They just need a win to get back on track, luckily everyone else keeps losing as well.
Was at the game tonight, no air con and my wife and 5 year old getting abused for wearing a wildcats Jersey absolutely disgusting. Calling 36ers tomorrow.

I actually come out looking good from all this as I predicted what would happen at the beginning of the losing streak despite being heavily criticised. The true believers who accepted all the BS from the club will be shattered though, correct.
:)

Can't say they didn't spend up in the off-season - Kay and Norton were expensive but smart moves. Maybe too much reliance on Wagstaff and Hire carrying through another year.

Perth missing the playoffs is a delicious cake and Whingeworld losing his shit is the icing :)

Gleeson is only good with funding $$$, never rated him. Hopefully gone which will be a positive from this.

Shocking dereliction of duty by head office, two seasons running.
It sucks but I was right, the club have been exposed - they sat on their hands hoping to ride it out, it's kind of worked since the deadline is nearly here so no doubt some of the blind faithful will take it down their throats.
This just in - Homicide coming to Perth on Sunday!

No, you kept saying “they need a third import.” How would a third import have fixed that shitshow tonight?
