Ankle brace for ATFL injury
Yeah stuff your physio should have told you originally. A moon Boot FFS.

Thanks guys

As a current physiotherapist I’d be prioritising strengthening and proprioception exercises to prevent re-occurrence of injury.
In the mean time, ankle bracing / taping to protect the ATFL and ankle joint whilst it is still recovering. If you’ve had a full rupture I’d say you are still in the recovery phase and you do not want to aggravate it.

proprioception exercises for ankle
That's what you want to be Googling if you want to prevent reoccurrence

“Shame you didn't say that at the outset. All you were worried about was shipping costs. Cheap arse.“
Nope. Couldnt care less about the costs. Just wanted to know where to get a good one in person because I didn’t want to wait a week to get one shipped from online. As I said it my original post.
I ended up getting a Shock Doctor level 3 brace from Rebel Sport today. Peace of mind for protection while it heals.
Thanks to those with the helpful responses

"I got a brace. I'll wear it for a bit then strap."
I could advise on that incorrect suggestion, but now I won't.

“3 weeks with nothing!! Too late.”
Ha no- 3 weeks in a moon boot
I got a brace. I’ll wear it for a bit then strap.

"I can guarantee that if you wear no strapping or tape the damage done to your ankle injury will be far worse.
Based on decades of looking after ankles".
What an amazing thing to have on your resume. You may well be right, ankle guards or taping may reduce the severity of the injury, or they may not; there is simply no way to prove this, therefore your statement "of guarantee" just does not hold. Scientific evidence unfortunately is not based on anecdotes, it generally requires a stronger level of evidence than this. This is Level 5 evidence - meaningless.
The problem with physiotherapy as a profession (assuming that is where you are coming from), is that a lot of treatments are based on very little evidence. That is why treatments such as ultrasound, interferential and even wax therapy, which were big in the 90's, have fallen out of favour - zero evidence to support their use.
If you can back up your personal guarantee with some data, I would be happy to change my view.

OP here. Thanks for the replies. Brace > tape? Or should I go brace then tape? Still looking around Melb for a good brace.

I can guarantee that if you wear no strapping or tape the damage done to your ankle injury will be far worse.
Based on decades of looking after ankles.

Better find another physio to the guy above.
I have seen dozens of ankle injuries over the years and lots with braces and tape on. I can guarantee yo the injuries would have been far worse if they didnt have that protection undoubtedly.
I would also suggest that if they weren't wearing that protection in some cases the ankles would have been broken.

Interesting..
I was told specifically by specialists NOT to wear a brace of any kind. It does nothing to prevent injuries reoccurring, and they actually weaken the joint and surrounding tissues.
This was after a broken ankle, and significant Achilles injury.

Nah the physio is just telling me to get one wherever i can. He said get one with Velcro and laces and wear it the next few weeks. I’m 3 weeks post injury now

“Why do you need to wear a brace for an ankle sprain?”
Because my physio said I need to. I guess to prevent reinjury.
“You can always tape it”
Yeah I will eventually. Apparently the brace is more protection particularly in early days.

ASO ankle brace is the gold standard.
You should call a local Physiotherapy clinic to see if they have one.
