South didn’t give petty the job because of his association to southern, it was more like his association with the senior president who is also clueless, but also now an assistant coach.

Coaching a loaded state team ain't that hard. Building a program is. Not saying Warhurst has done a great job, don't know the behind the scenes stuff. Always has been a prickly character, as a player and a coach. Club probably needs some new blood to aid in recruiting. Look at Centrals with Simpson, was left with nothing after Bobby Cunningham did an even worse job than the 2 we're talking about. Played his son starters minutes when he was 18 div 2 at best over Dau and Biar Garang. Apparently KB was offered mavs job but Centrals women outbid them, but he's only looking at 1 year deals so not there for long run.
Where are all the head coach prospects. Years ago up and comers served their apprenticeships and were prepared. Now we have guys like Petty at South who's clueless, was just sitting on southerns million dollar bench so South thought success by association, how's that working out. Next thing will be Jayden Forte getting a job, only thing going for him is hes a state coach groupie. Got Boti at West who just goes where his daughters are, how many tracksuits do they have now. Pretty good job but why give it to a hack journalist? Norwood who were unbeatable a couple of years ago give it to an unknown and are light years from playoffs.
Probably best signing of the year is Mick Osbourne who coached Jesus when he played shooting guard for Nazareth. But everyone said he is too old, crap, he can outcoach nearly everyone in league. Whitmore should be over there taking notes.

All of the above comments about Whitmore and Woodville can be said about Warhurst and the Mavs, Warhurst is certainly not "Mr personality" by any stretch. Pretty sure Whitmores PL record is better than Warhursts and he did win a gold medal at national 20's a couple of years ago so he does understand what it takes to be successful.

Mavs choice of imports this year and even last year are up on Woodville's and in PL thats all you need to compete. As far as Junior development, retaining good club players and rewarding the more talented, not sure about Woodville but unfortunately that is not something that is a high priority at Eastern under the current coach.

Lets see how the year goes before saying I told you so and the best of luck to both coaches and programs.

I have coached against this bloke and the reason he wasn’t getting a game at the Mars and now it seams anywhere is he wasn’t very good, not a team player and a poor attitude, tried starting fights with players and even opposition supporters and coaches. Time to get off the computer and get in the gym then you might have a bit of success.

Would say Whitmore has done less with more than Warhurst. Has some solid bigs and a couple decent juniors coming in like meldrum. His choice of imports is baffling, Perry is terrible. He's either streaky, injured or a liability. Everett did dominate the ball last year but was their only option and won them a couple of games, and apparently he wanted back but they went for an unathletic I don't know. Too big and slow for 2 and 3, bulked up a bit but can't be a 4. Clippinger seems to be decent but is constantly anchored to bench. Looks like his average minutes hover around the 20 mark. Why bring him in. Whilst the guards have promise, they are very young, they had to use Everett to bring ball up last year. If anyone saw the game vs forestville, the kids were absolutely slaughtered when they put 2 2 1 trap on. Couldn't get the ball over halfway, so why didn't they go with an import guard, at least a ball handling 2. But again, the local kids havent been developed despite being in the system for a few years.
And defensively they play zone because they can't guard anyone. Worst still it's a terrible zone. So all the kids coming through aren't taught any man to man skills.
Now whilst Eastern aren't the greatest team, at least Morris is something to watch. Woodville are the most boring team around, slow, unathletic and play crappy zone and hope the other team misses open shots.
Despite being ex teammates and friends, Gilbert and Woodville need to sack Whitmore asap. He'll probably make some excuse and walk before he's pushed. But good old Benn McDonald is still haunting them by not reappointing Corey McLean, championship winning coach and maybe best in league. Genius move.
Not too long ago they were champions and in the hunt every year, get Whitmore in and he f%$ks it up. So all this hate for Warhurst may be real and founded, but Whitmore is worse for the above reasons. Plus he's an arrogant dickhead off the court.

Mavs lose juns like leaves falling off a tree. Lost a player just out of juns two games into the season due to the favouritism shown by the coach.

Ok Anon 067 - it's obvious that you have an issue with Mavs. Disgruntled ex player that couldn't perform so went to another club and still can't get starting 5 or sufficient court time at that. Everyone just ignore this cub and let him be because obviously he's upset for leaving for another team that has hit the skids. Couldn't do anything at Mavs and nothing for his current team - maybe you should look inwards - the problem might be you. Your twigs aren't fueling any fire here.

Not saying there aren't any issues with Mavs or any other team at that, but if the issues weren't from the top down, they might be a "better" club. North & Southern have issues from the top down also.

Most of those Mavs players were just div 2 forestille players that couldn't crack PL at a proper club so went east for an easy entry

The five ex Mavs would beat the current line-up less imports, throw in Daniel Lean & Mitchell Kelton as subs. I would say there would be a dozen potential PL juniors that were never given opportunity by the current coach that basically got disillusioned by the game and quit all together. I think you may have contradicted yourself with the “success” of an 18’s group a few years ago, if they were that good where are they now? What happened?? Shouldn’t the PL coach be right on top of these guys mapping out a pathway?

But for the other 3 qtrs were competitive (+3) Also against Norwood they were competitive for 4 qtrs (-7) against a team still undefeated. But has anyone actually posted anything positive when they are competitive, play well or even actually win??? No! Even last season when they lost to West Adelaide ( Premiers) by 4 after leading for all but the last minute did anyone say anything positive???? Never!!! The current mavs mens coach was the JDO so who is to blame? Take out the imports and you could put together two teams of former Mavs seniors and juniors that the coach has pushed out one way or another that would beat the current PL team.

Was just about to write the same thing. Eastern has got the least talent of every team yet has a few wins on the board. Way better than what Whitmore has put together but he seems to miss out on criticism. Pushed Centrals today, they hit a few 3s to get the lead out. More to blame is probably the junior development.

Who ever keeps going after Warhurst, rightly or wrongly, it's time to let it go. Am sure you have something better to do than continuly attack a guy over his coaching style. You look ridiculously petty and obsessed and might need to seek some professional help.

Third quarter Mavs gave up 35 points (is this a season high)? to Centrals without changing their game or even making a substitution. Even the U10 girls coach sitting next to me could see that something needed to be done. Mavericks might have half decent imports but their coach needs a good hard look at himself.

Pretty sure it was 98-80. Very physical game played on Sturt's terms for most of the night. They did well.

PL FB page says it was only 9, 98-89. If so pretty good effort.

Southern smacked the hapless Warriors while North handled South in the first half. South showed a bit of fight but couldn't compete when North hit high gear.
