Perception is perceptions. Reality is reality. Perception IS NOT reality.

The athletes and their families know the reality. The above is all just mostly insignificant, anonymous stuff from people very detached from it.

Those on the periphery, including those that are supposed to be leaders and the OP believe what they perceive, this is often FAR removed from the reality. End of the day the periphery is where they will stay whilst we all give them nice smiles, give them what they want to hear and just get on with the reality of it all.

Surely the previous HP manager gets some credit for the current boys performance? All these athletes were part of NITP over the journey and both 03 kids were picked 2 years ago and some height added that wasn’t available at U16’s. You also need luck with no injuries and we seemed to be ‘lucky’ with injuries to very good players in opposing teams . A very strong coaching group that obviously did a great job but clearly D Ingham had some input there as well.
This group should’ve done better in U16’s but really just started the week badly to finish out of the medals sometimes one bad game and a tough pool can drop you out of the top 4 or get you a tough crossover in the quarterfinals. We had the weak pool and just needed to miss Vic met on the crossover !
The country boys group has finished 10th both times and rely heavily on their 2 bottom agers who again performed very well and wouldn’t have done their chances for Asia U16’s any harm although in saying that it’s probably hard to get selected from a team finishing 10th. They had the tough pool where 3 of the 4 semi finalists came from and in the end probably performed ok with a close loss to Tassie and WA metro and 2 wins against NT and WAC
Let’s hope we get a couple of boys go through to selection for the next level at both age groups but as always it will be tough.

The sa country women u16 side coming in July is supposed to be the best in years.
Hopefully it's the same for the boys.

SA Country have progressively gone backwards or at best stalled for a number of years. The former HP Manager did very little to help and the jury will be out on the newly appointed person to see what input or just "plain effort" he puts in.

Not a great time for our country cousins with the recent headline news story damaging the SAC brand even further from the Today tonight exclusive two years ago.

Who is the new HP coach?

Years ago

Sturt have no money for premier league imports because they pay all their junior recruits from henley high to move over to sturt.

Years ago

Nothing will change at bsa preferential treatment with previous hp person and the same with new hp person for different reasons but read between the lines

583, still crickets LOL.

I propose you have no idea what you are talking about and just taking what you think you see and rumors you hear. I believe would never engage in meaningful conversation, based on reality, of substance here or in real life because of this. You ARE the problem not the solution.

Now let's get back to how well these great kids and coaches are actually going.

and no I am not his coach, just opposition who admires his talent and want him on our team

Some good 04s at the u16s this year will push out a few 03s from the Aussie squad.

Don’t know for sure but has to be over 180 when he is next to players I know are that heightand he is taller for sure and he has wing span and high IQ. Very athletic. His metrics have to be good.

How tall is number 5?

The current (03) u15 oceania/16s Asia team this year looks pretty light compared to the previous team who came 6th at worlds.

My guess is the 2 bottomagers that missed out on U17s selection last time for the kid that could not make this state team.

People skills may lacking with the new guy, as well as the ability to really relate to athletes but it is still a significant upgrade !!

Overall will be solid in is role and that will be extremely good given it's a role that has been a big hole for the past 2 yrs.

being HP Manager and coach are two different animals and you need to remember the former may have given coaches directions on how and who to play. HP suits them and they will be thorough and has a proven performance record and respect of many coaches who will work under him. the power has shifted. as for country thats a different story. they have had a lot of change lately and unrest and desperately need some mature experienced leadership who can remove themselves from politics and friendships and just get on with the basketball.

They appear to be doing quite well this year!

could be an u16 asia and an u17 oceania Aussie team with no S.A representation this year.

603 - interesting point you make. And how are the 2 bottomagers that played in that team travelling in this year's U18 group?

Years ago

I think it’s funny that the new HP manager is to be a saviour, yet he coached last years u16 team to 8th when many thought they were more talented than country who finished 4th.

Regardless, no disputing the u18 metro men are well coached and it has shown through with results so far.

Both metro teams should make top 4 and both country teams should be bottom 4.

Im confused, one post says country kids come from strong country families that have good genetics for physicality and dexterity for the game. That's country people for you.
Another one says they haven't grown in size.
So are country kids strong from lifting hale bales and eating lots of meat or puny weaklings that don't grow after theyre 14?

583 I'm intrigued when you say the extreme talent in this age group has been supressed for years. Are you saying as in this cohort of kids were supressed in U16s?

Or are you saying the successive groups in the U18 age group were supressed?

Over what time period are you speaking of?

Care to give some specific examples?

The Country boys that finished 4th last year at 16's wont make the top 8 next April. Metro boys from the same year underachieved and will improve, but Country will go backwards as none have improved or grown in size since.

Years ago

Quite a few bottom age for country men who were all in last years state team that came 4th at last years nationals but could have easily made 3rd if draw fell differently so the talent is there but a year younger. Aside from that the top age country is not as talented for their year of birth and different coach that I will say nothing about except he is coaching South Premier League team. Country all play metro Div 1 as well so that argument of numbers is out the window. They come from strong country families that have good genetics for physicallity and dexterity for the game. Thats country people for you and many now live just outside adelaide, they come from all over the state and moved closer for basketball and the advantage of the metro comp so no excuses there. Interestingly the Metro men are back on track and where they should be. For years now this group has been underperforming despite loaded talent of national team quality that perform locally in a strong comp with some quality coaches. But a different selection panel this year so key omissions allowing others back in to the team that deserve a spot. A coach change to one with experience with the playing style of most of the team, has the maturity and strength to deal with some behaviours not addressed in previous years and able to get the best out of the entire team and the players are stepping up in this environment. Talent that has been suppressed is back in business and they are just where they always should have been up there in medal contention. Just sad for former players who also had talent and suppressed for years and never reached full potential at state rep level and now their time has passed. Country women is a different story I know little about but clearly needs a review and Metro women again have selection issues maybe as talent is here in this state. Maybe the lack of competition in this state with not enough strength in the coaching of girls in our state and the saturation of talent at a few clubs. There also seems to have been a focus for years in the girls to showcase individuals at the expense of the state team results from what I can see having watched these girls play locally vs what goes on at nationals. Politics can be the death of a program. Lets hope the new Director can bring it all back in line with values that put the state team results first, has no underlying agenda and our best talent can rise not just as an individual but as a unit on behalf of SA. The metro men seem to be igniting the flame to get it started so good signs coming very quickly with a changing of the guard. Good luck to all teams.

Over the years, Townsville has become known for producing young basketball talent and turning them in to stars, but two players they have coming up through the system now, may just end up being the best yet.

Sixteen year old identical twin sisters Alicia and Keely Froling, come from quite a basketball pedigree. Dad Shane played 271 games in the NBL and was also an Assistant Coach for several years with the Townsville Crocodiles. Mum Jenny is a former AIS basketballer and 4 time WNBL champion.
