Breakers 'Global News' announcement this week
How embarrassing is modern day media though? The notion of investigative journalism is well and truly gone.
Someone starts a crazy rumour and the media (Stuff, NZHerald etc) run with it.
Somebody remind them that they look like fools. We shouldn't let them off for stuff like that.

Breakers were smart to quash the Carmelo rumours straight away. Lesser orgs would've sat on it for free publicity.

Forget Melo and LaMelo, I'm pretty certain it's RJ Hampton

If its Carmelo look for the Breakers to have a minimum of 56 technicals next season

A Tweet I just read
"Reports out of Atlas Pl that @NZBreakers have signed @carmeloanthony @NBL How does this shake things up @Liam_Santa @ShaneHeal @chomicide"
Lets get this rumour pumping

I get the need to sell/build up the announcement; but NBL teams are notorious for building up the announcements too much (Which leaves fans disappointed).
Not sure of the need to build it up as "Global News" (even if there is some pun behind it) - unless its Lebron coming down south; I doubt the basketball world is going to be thrown completely off-tilt by whatever is announced.

Most credible guess so far, announcement would help sell tickets.
But what national team would get a challenge from NZ Breakers?

Global could mean almost anything. Maybe they’ve just invested in some world globe fitballs, or have a “global focus” on whole-body training.
It’s probably nothing guessed at here.

Oh ok, yeah, a "global" sponsor might make sense.
Or as Paul said, they could be teaming up with Global Culture. That would be a witty reference.

Maybe the are going to pull a Sixers and announce they have re-signed Ngatai.

Fans wouldn't really care about sponsorships, and sponsors aren't exactly the kind of thing to be 'global news'.
Potentially a big name coach but not sure who would be worthy of 'global'.
Most likely it's a big name signing. My tip is lamelo ball. I reckon NZ would be a decent fit for him too.
Otherwise it might be a decent ex NBA player. They would need to be fairly high profile to count as 'global' though and not just be some random bench player. Carmelo Anthony maybe? but highly highly doubt it, they wouldn'thave the money for him. Unless it wasn't about the money and he wanted to do a bogut and play here, get his body right, prove he can still play, win an MVP, then return to the NBA with a contender in Feb/March.
Going to be a lot of disappointed NZ and NBL fans if it turns out to be a pretty lame announcement, expectations are getting high.
Lamelo ball is my tip though.

Went through the 36ers home schedule and saw that 8 of their 14 home games were at 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. I'm sure some other clubs may have something similar. As a season ticket holder this is a definite minus! Basketball as generally a sport that is played at night not in the middle of the day and especially in the middle of Summer.
