Mount Gambier to the NZNBL
Anyone know what’s going on with this? Are they definitely leaving PL? Great to watch but would be nice to have a chance of winning the title again if they leave.

The Mount are up themselves and this will never happen in a million years. The NBL will never go back down the path of the "all in" times of the League. Geelong, Gold Coast etc etc have all been in and are better options right now than the Mount but wont be ever NBL franchises again.
The only NBL linkage for the Mount is Richard "Mr Personality" Hill who thinks he is at that level! BSA were absolute idiots for giving these bloodsuckers an opportunity in the PL! I would have asked for 3 years minimum rather than letting them in for one year at the competitions and clubs expense.
No other state league would allow this, but hey this is BSA.

you cant seriously think that they have no idea of the costs.

Boti says it's likely the NZ-NBL well accept Mt Gambier into their league and they sound pretty keen to have the Pioneers too.
The NZ-NBL looks very likely to accept Mt Gambier, which would be huge for the city, the region, the league and the sport.
"The Pioneers have been a leading team in basketball during the winter months in Australia and through the change from SEABL to NBL1 this year they were left in limbo, which despite their incredible success, no doubt was a bit of a shock," Nelson said.
"The Pioneers board and staff have been incredibly professional in the way they have worked with us and they have presented a very strong case for inclusion in the NZNBL."

Feel free to correct me Team Mate.

I would hope they commit to the PL sooner than they did this year!!

- BV had as much responsibility to include MTG in their new comp as BNSW or BSA would to include a Victorian team. Which is nil. Why they included Tas Teams, who knows ? Their comp, they can choose. BA shut down SEABL, wasn't up to BV to pick up the pieces for MTG.
- MTG not being included because "Victorian Teams couldn't beat them" is a bit of a laugh too. A quick search will show that sure, MTG have been great for the past 5 or 6 years, a Dynasty almost, but hadn't won all that much before that. And even over the past 5 or 6 years, they didn't win every year. Like all sports, clubs/teams will have a run where a great group stick together and enjoy great success. Certainly wouldn't mean they'd dominate the NBL1 for the next decade or two. Players retire, money runs out, coaches leave.
- I'm glad they're doing well, building a new facility etc. I enjoyed watching them play in the old SEABL comp. Hopefully they can get a Womens program sorted, and maybe that'll be the catalyst for them to re-enter NBL1, if it was indeed the lack of a womens program that kept them out.

Good question about their women's program. One of the main concerns with the SEABL teams was the advantage they had only having to pay for a men's team.
Would be a shame if they decided to drop their women's team after only one year.

I do not think it is as easy as Mt Gambier having the big budget. Teams from the NZ mainland would have to have a double header Souther and Mt Gambier and it's their budgets that may not be able to sustain the increased cost.

You would think it unlikely Curtley but if you don't ask you don't know

And its exactly the same if you take normal fares from Melbourne to Hobart return using Qantas

I did quick experiment on webjet.com
Melb to Mount flights return...
MEL to MOUnt $217.... MOUNT to MELB $173.... total return including taxes etc $424, so I guess approx. $400 is about right.
becomes an expensive exercise for the home team and away team I guess? $430 x 13 (10 players, 2 coaches, 1 team manger) = $5590 just return from Melbourne.
AUCK to MELB $289.... MELB to AUCK $313 (flying Air NZ)…. total return including taxes etc $681. As above $681 x 13 = $8853
5590 + 8853 = 14443 for each return trip to/from NZ.
that's a lot of fund to find for the whole season. but hey good luck to Mount Gambier if they have an infinite cash flow to sustain it.

Should say

Easy
Just catch the bus to NZ and back to Mt G.
Would be an expensive exercise to undertake every 2 weeks.

Nbl 1 is a shadow of seabl. They pay less and have a longer season, nznbl will take all the better nbl players who are available.

Good luck to them, if they got the coin do it. Nbl 1 will fall behind more, seabl should have been kept.

Any thoughts regarding the rookies after their opening games?
For the first time in memory, I've watched all games in a round thanks to NBL.TV.
Thought Norton looked reasonably composed and Gliddon was sharp for Cairns. Steindl was efficient.
Tomlinson had one passage where he missed a three, ball got back to him, and he attempted another. Same result. But showed a lack of nerves I guess.
