Premier League Round 19

without some changes in their starting lineup, you are correct.

On current form, recent bad losses to Nth, Soutern and For, Norwood wont get past the first round.

You write Norwood off at your peril. Too many and that brings experience when it matters.

its no secret that teams have discovered norwoods weakness and are exploiting it.

it is also no secret that bmo would make norwood much stronger as a unit.

there is no question in my mind that bmo is not only a much better off the bench player than andrew long, but also a better starter than daniel webber.

South just weren't smart in appointments on both side by all accounts. Bottom in the men and second to bottom in the women's comp doesn't really send a glowing endorsement of both coaches.

#677. I think you will find McVeigh plays 3 and sometimes 2 for North. Never at 4

Anonymous
Years ago

Thanks Panther but not better on the women's side of basketball. A lot of disgruntled players including the import who can not wait to get home. Not sure what is worse is that he gets another year with the women or is in charge of the junior program. Either way South are stuffed.

Years ago

The problem with Jamie is that he thinks he is half decent when he is far from that. He has no resume to speak of and no history of winning anything?
That still isn't an issue if South put some experienced assistant coaches and support around him, the assistant coaches are VERY VERY poor with similar resumes to Jamie with no clue whatsoever.
So is it Jamies fault? Is it the clubs fault? Probably a bit of both. Jamie isn't up to it and South have dropped the ball in both his appointment and the support crew and mentoring given to him.

South board need to take a serious look at who is making these decisions and how qualified they actually are. Undoubtedly the worst season of Panther Mens basketball in 20 years.

#750587 & 588 are both correct. Corey is an intelligent coach and does know the game as good as anyone else in the league, however, there comes a time when the team does switch off and the message does not get through any longer.
For what its worth, Corey coaches by his playbook and does not alter his plan. By not being instinctive this has come to bite them particularly in last quarter losses. As a follower of West and watching some of the juniors this club has, they will be fine if continued to be developed. Rennie is a player and providing he is given opportunity he along with Johnson, Valk & Fauser can be the nucleus of this club in the coming years. They do need bigs now that Blake is retiring, so that is something they will need to amend. Keeping Thomas and Kubank is vital as these two are the backbone, one can only hope the club understands that not taking some players for granted may be the pivotal piece in moving forward.

Whos the bully coach?

Years ago

Bullies protecting bullies by more bullying and harassing negative comments. SAD ! There is another way, it still involves passion and assertiveness but not abuse that wears down players and their families, friends and fans. Some chose a better life because it is out there. Some chose to stay because they are in a cycle where have been abused enough and see it all around them that they believe it is normal. Again thats sad.

449 something learnt from colleagues and the point about coach accountability and respecting players as people not pawns in their coaching game. And 496 A coach can chose to let those players go or simply not play them and lose a game they had the lead in. Then it is also their responsibility to use their training and workshops to develop those deficiencies. Then there is individual work. Do you really think yelling and abusing people especially the young is going to get the best out of them and gain their respect for you. No ! There is passion and getting overly assertive then there is abuse. In any other setting it is abuse and you go to court or lose your job for workplace abuse bullying ir harassment. And if a player is not performing as in a workplace you should check if you have given them the correct training and then if you have give them warnings under a workplace policy and then eventually you fire them and employ someone else. Why is it that Sport and Schools continue to be a place where behaviour is tolerated and accepted that off the field/court or track and outside of school grounds would have dire consequences. It sickens me to think of the damage that is being done. And please don’t talk about resilience. It is not resilience to teach our young that they have to take this abuse from someone and that an organisation of any kind has no responsibility to educate, coach or teach you. And then there is an association, club, business, leadership responsibility to help the coach, teacher, leader or whoever if they are displaying this behaviour as well and not allow them to further damage others and themselves. It is not in their best interest either. Is anyone reaching out to these coaches and saying the behaviours win or lose are not acceptable and also if they are okay. Why are they behaving that way. Do they need help with stress, support or education themselves and that may not be in coaching, it may be in how to teach, how to manage people, communication and conflict resolution. Too many coaches are just thrown in completely unprepared and don’t have all the tools and skills necessary beyond a knowledge of the game. That is not enough.

With the pioneers not having completed their minor round season have they secured top spot in the men’s?

Excellent game and crowd last night.

I think the pioneers women team secured a finals spot in beating Forestville last night. Any guess as to what position they will finish?

Have a look at boxscore for pioneers v Forestville. Basically they played with 6 as well. Who cares what Centrals did. They won! Isn’t that what matters?

Agree the development of players is a club whole of approach which is mutually shared by all.stakeholders. at times this approach can be blurred through fast track attitude or recruit over heads of key club personell. Strong positive leadership with focus on best practice.. growth brings success but success doesnt bring growth. Got to.be organic.

Do your homework. There are Premier League Coaches who are Development Managers or Basketball operations managers. There are assistants that are junior coaches. Fact.

Why is it alledgedly the PL coaches job to develop junior talent?
Of course any club juniors that make PL should be developed by the coach but it always seems that there is an expectation from certain circles that development is on the PL coach. Unless that coach is also in the role of JDO or something similar it would appear to me it isnt on them.
Seems strange to constantly talk down PL coaches who have nothing to do with juniors.

Would love to know from the "coaches rant" person who they think in PL gets the tick or fall into the catergories they ranted about?

Pretty offensive comments towards teams such as Souths. Many teams have talent on the floor,
just not on the coaches bench. So many games at more than just one club that have been neck and neck only to have coaches pull players and put mind boggling combos on court and lose badly in the 4th. The discourse in the crowd is palpable and online evident and clear. Even coaches who have done National Coaching levels you have to wonder if they are in it for the right reasons or to be part of a particular coaching group to hang out with their mates. Not a good reason and when you leave the wings of your idol coach many will be caught out and I get the feeling thats whats happening. Being a nice guy or associated with particular coaches does not mean you have the goods at that level. Many get away with it for a while when given a ready made experienced talented team until they don’t have that luxury. The tell is have they coached lower age juniors and been able to develop them in to a team and over two years in an age group improved or have they been given talent a previous coach developed and made finals and showed improvement individually and strong team concepts or did they take that same team and by the time they were finished with them they had dropped in skill, team work and moral and dis that coach attempt to remediate themselves and change or ask for assistance, or turn on the team. I see many teams and players destroyed on and off court with the power many coaches are allowed to have over players and teams. There is no accountability and too much mateship between coaches. They do each other no favours by continuing to ignore the issues over the needs of the teams. This is the downfall of many clubs and can be avoided by having strong leadership, genuine support honesty and an overriding club philosophy and style of play. Successful clubs have these in place and and demand their coaches are there for their team not themselves. They hold themselves accountable above all else and the teams know it and they work hard for their coaches and their team. The club is rewarded across all ages and levels including Premier League and its not about the wins. Its about each team at that time within the comp of that season. Perspective is required and egos left at the door. Unfortunately many mistake confidence and competence with egos and personality with competence.

Mike D'Antoni is the new head coach of the Lakers, signing a three year (plus one year team option) deal. Negotiations with Phil Jackson broke down when he requested a part stake in the team's ownership.

D'Antoni knows Kobe extensively, and is sure to get the offense rolling (quite literally) with plenty of 1-5 sets with Nash and DaWight :P
