In hindsight, I wonder if Lemanis would've considered a veteran point guard like Damian Martin or similar to spell Patty/Delly. Instead of Barlow. Those two must've been exhausted by the end - they were basically sprinting off screens or chasing other guards the whole tournament.

*those numbers are obviously from this century only, I didn't look pre that period as there weren't so many international players in the NBA up until that point

Not at all. Those three could have played roles if we had injuries, but once you get deep in the tournament and they haven't played much, it's not wise to throw them in cold, they'll just be off the pace.

NZ went 3-2 and beat two European teams playing players of lesser talent than those three.

There were some teams that had younger players but the sides that progressed were the solid older teams. Landale after looking fantastic in summer league noticeably got not as valuable as tournament progressed. At 23 years old and scouting reports on you it gets harder. In hindsight it would have been good if Bolden had hung around but he elected to leave, you are not guaranteed a starting spot you have to earn it. Bolden length would’ve been handy off the bench.

We probably were planning to use the end of the bench but winning overtook that plan.
Most coaches can't run a 12 man rotation,too many variables.
So 9 man is most practical.
Take 3 young guys that are on the radar for the future to learn team dynamics and culture and plays.
Throw them in if chance arises but prepare them for the future.
These last 3 are great people but there needs to now be some passing on of the legacy.
Ok Simmons and bolden left but Motum Adel etc may play for us one day,give them opportunity to learn.

Needed to blow out teams early to give those 3 a run. Didn't happen and here we are.

Not sure if Spain were able to play their 10-12 men. But they also had 1 extra day rest.

We needed blowout games to happen early against teams like SEN and DOM to give our main rotation a bit of a rest. Problem is it never happened.

Playing those guys wouldn't have got us to the semi to begin with
