NBL crowds strong in round 3
“Sydneysiders are generally bad at rocking up to games”.
True in most sports I think. The NRL describe any crowd in 5 figures as a “good crowd”. This goes for all NSW teams, plus the Gold Coast Titans. Whereas the AFL like crowds to be at least 25 000.
Perhaps the NBL needs to consider game crowds as a % of crowds for the dominant football code in that state. If so, I think Sydney outperforms Perth and Melbourne teams. Or they could compare to local BBL and/or cricket crowds. I think the comparison would be favourable for all state cricket. The A League would look poor with similar comparisons.
Comparisons such as those can show interest in a favourable light to attract sponsors and broadcasters.
The NBL will never attract the big $ of the football codes, but a case could be made to attract more $ compared to state cricket and soccer.

8000 plus at the entertainment centre, very good again.
The cricket at the Gabba was empty. It looked embarrassing.
Go the nbl. Hardly any Main Street media but going well.

The Edinburgh military tattoo was on at stadium next door, so lots people around, people no it’s no point going as the parking is expensive and not much plus the rail service is rubbish, so 6500 is not bad.

Crowds at the two Kings game so far have been underwhelming, to say the least.
8,500 on opening night and 6,500 to watch the Breakers last week.

Is there any actual reasoning behind Illawarras Monday night fixtures? Im thinking this could be one of the trade offs for getting Lamelo as a Next Stars player.
Maybe the league want to push Monday night games for a potentially better TV audience and Illawarra had to agree?
They dont have the pull to tell the league no, so maybe they had to oblige or miss out on Lamelo?

Would of been more if the NBL didn't give Illawarra Monday games...
Since that equates to early/middle-of-the-night Monday morning in the US it doesn't make sense to me. Melo factor not being maximised.

What did Adelaide get at the Entertainment Centre? Didn't see a number on the boxscore.

Was at a sports function in Melbourne this week where Smyth was a guest speaker along with other AFL coaches.
Smyth's passion and love for the game was infectious. In question/answer time I found him to be the most innovative of the speakers.
Our table agreed that Smyth is a legend and if he was to go back to coaching he would be a huge success.
I want him at the Melbourne Tigers, get rid of Anstey - he cant coach and bring in someone who is proven and innovative.
