Big South's Winthrop defeating nationally #18 ranked WCC conference St Mary's in CA was a huge upset in many eyes. Maybe the Gaels aren't ready for the high ranking or maybe the Eagles are better than people think. Only early days given it is pre-season, but there was a big crowd and plenty to get excited about.

Plenty of Aussies in the teams too!

For the Eagles it wound up a three game road trip, a win at Hartford and a 3 point loss on the buzzer at Fresno State for Paul George's singlet retirement suggests Winthrop will be a powerhouse in the Big South in 2020.
