NBA proposes changes for 2021-22 season
I have almost no interest in the regular season of the NBA now. Too much tanking, too many games that don't mean anything. Still love the playoffs essentially because of the high level of rivalry and competition.
For interest to go back into the regular season less games would mean that every game is more important. Also there is a need to reduce the benefits to be gained by tanking. It is fine to try to even up the competition by getting great players to poor performing teams, but to incentivize losing negates the benefits.

I don't think stats come into it at all. No one cares about NBA stats anymore what's Harden averaging 60ppg? Who cares. They seem to get by during lockout shortened seasons. It's all about the TV contracts.

Is the in-season tournament meant to provide arbitrary added interest?
They know a lot of casuals really only tune in for the first 3-4 weeks of the season lose interest and then come back at playoff time.
This is the NBA's attempt at keeping interest during the middle of the season, whilst also pandering to their TV overlords not to actually reduce the amount of games just to be seen to be doing so.

They probs have media contracts that require a minimum number of games for broadcast, plus sponsors wanting max exposure.

60 is ideal but the NBA is too traditional when it comes to records/stats.
Playoffs drag on they need best of 5 rounds until the finals then go best of 7.

That's right but at least WWE make you feel like it's dinkum. When the refs let guys like LeBron & Harden take 16, 17 steps without bouncing the ball you know they're not even trying to hide it anymore.

I highly doubt the players are going to want to have a further increase of games.
Cut the regular season to something like 60 games then I might start paying attention to the NBA again. It's boring AF.

Another bad development for Ingles. In Barca's last Euroleague game, Xavier Rabaseda replaced Joe Ingles in the rotation as Barca's backup small forward.
