Just looked it up. It was Ray Bieber, although Smyth had some things to say too. Guess it was just a lack of education at that point and they wouldn't have had the internet. Damian Keogh had some strong words against those views though

In reading articles about Stern's legacy, there was one about how he handled magic Johnson's HIV situation.

Within the article there's these comments:

"That change went global when Johnson expressed his plans to keep his roster spot in the 1992 Olympic Dream Team. The international community barked in protest. An official from the Australian Olympic Federation recommended his team boycott the Games if Magic was allowed to suit up. One of the Australian players said he'd accept a silver medal rather than battle Magic on the court for the gold."

Was that Phil Smyth?

Conspiracy theories without proof are nothing but unsubstantiated rubbish.

What a couple of plonkers the 2 posts above are. Celebrate the man for his achievements without race and conspiracy theories.

RIP, sad to see someone die only in their 70's.

However I never had much time for Stern he's a large part of the reason the NBA is the all offence no defence glorified pick up game crap that it is now. He also turned a blind eye to despicable team owners like Donald Sterling and there was always a lot of talk around that he used to rig the draft especially with the first ever draft lottery which allowed the Knicks to draft Patrick Ewing.

Condolences to his family.
A sad day for basketball.
