NBL State of Origin
I'd say where they played junior ball determines what State to play for.
Example Tony Ronaldson was born in SA but spent his junior career in Vic.

State first registered to play basketball in Australia would work. Could be as a 7 year old, or for a naturalised player, even 27.

Using 'place of birth' automatically excludes all foreign-born players.
Why not try, "NO RECRUITING RULES - AT ALL! (ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO JUSTIFY THE SELECTION)",
Some examples that would stand up in a court of basketball law:
"He knew a guy who holiday-ed in Broome!",
"Great great great grandfather was born to first convicts in Tas".
"He once had a bottle of shiraz from the Hunter Valley".
"Cab-sav from Barossa".
"He wears gold mined in Ballarat"
"Loves pineapples".
"Button approved the papers in ACT".
"He does a great Haka".
And for imports....
"If he had had a choice, he would have been born in Australia!"

Rugby League has firm rules because there's only 2 states involved. There are plenty of guys in those games origingally from other states (and countries), but the rules help them to divide into those 2 camps.
With a sport that is played nationally (and internationally) it becomes more difficult

Whoever said make an all-star squad combining SA, WA, NT and TAS has the right idea.
Plenty of players to make other squads.

Didn’t Newley play juniors in Vic. Given these current developments, SA has Madgen (both of them) and not much else.

Only way Queensland can get over, stealing guys from south of the border or overseas.

No Bijan Johnson? He has his own logo you know!

Majok Deng also from SA, play him as a small "stretch" 4. You could also add Alex Mudronja and Mike Harris

2 tru

maybe sa can convince jingles to come home for a weekend

"Hooleys is South Australian, if that helps"
Helps my list, prob not the SA team. :P

Maybe if a player has played their entire career for that club that naturalises them to that state? So Teys for SA, Wagstaff to WA.

SA is a wasteland right now - no rotation players beyond Madgen and Newley? I wonder if that concerns Basketball SA much? Is there anything solid on the horizon - AIS or college?

"Isn't Jawai from FN QLD ? Above Cairns there ?"
I did think that, but Wiki said Sydney. :/

Isn't Jawai from FN QLD ? Above Cairns there ?
As mentioned, with NBA guys, would be a great little competition.

"Are we going with where they are born ? Cause the 'real' State of origin is based on where you played first senior game. Eg Mitch McCarron would be a Qld player."
I always though it was where you were born?

What surprised me the most was the lack of WA and SA guys around. Might be better to combine some states to round out full rosters, or make 4 teams? NSW, VIC, QLD and All-Stars

Teys Qld.
Andersen Vic
Dech for WA?
Froling brothers Qld.
Barlow Vic
Wani Swaka WA
Travers WA
Madgen SA? Many of these guys I mentioned would be bench players except possibly Dech or Madgen.
These teams would look better if NBA, NCAA and Europe guys were included.
