Basketball nsw has always charged clubs max, by pass them if possible. Twenty years ago the Waratah league was a good competition, now it’s rubbish.

All quiet about SA joining NBL 1. Has that fallen through

Interesting read on the North Conference being included into the CBA back in November 1993

Let's see how long NBL1 North lasts

Nsw Waratah league players pay to play at most clubs, a few grand for the privilege. I can’t see how it’s going to work in Nsw even though it would be great.

its not "fake news" they are the costs if you want to enter a club in nbl1 south the basketball victoria league. its increased by 3k this year due to an increase in the number of games.
is the cost for qbl clubs to enter their teams the same as it was last year? or has there been an increase?
posts above talk about costs doubling for qbl teams and thats why some didnt take up the opportunity. is this the entry costs increase or was it the cost for meeting nbl1 requirements?
just curious.

Nbl1 u19 npp, North, South, East, Central, West needed. Not sitting on the bench for club teams.
Coe should be Elite aus players only, u15 through to u19 teams. Essentially it would be the Australian junior side in nbl1 east along with nsw/act npp u19 team.

There are no NBL1 'entry fees'. Fake news.
If that happened with the original NBL1, that was a Basketball Vic thing.

post 647 ."Apparently the re branding massively benefited Victoria" if you mean basketball victoria then of course it does!
why would they run the league if it didnt benefit them?
entry fees for clubs is 33K! plus referee cost of almost 5k.
teams still have to meet there own streaming costs etc etc.
interested to know what the entry fees are for the qld teams?

COE Canberra Team, anyone know what's the go

Nice to see this concept finally gaining the legs I was hoping it would years ago, this is the type of semi-professional and professional cooperative business and sporting arrangement that can give the game the boost it deserves on a national scale.
The potential here is huge, my only concern is that someone will get carried away with it and try to bring in an Asian influence, some Asian based teams or an overseas concept far too early and wreck what essentially should stay an Australian National competition, hope not, just a concern...
At this stage, it's a bravo from me!

One of the few times Perthworld is correct so he is rapt to be able to correct someone.

Need a conferencdfe based coe, a lot leave coe because they fmiss familiy. Wont have to do that if you play in your state conference.

Thanks, Perthworld.

Nbl nt in central or north conference? Or not at all...
Centre of excellence needed per conference.

No NSW or Canberra = EPIC FAIL

Just love it! Wrote another novelette on why and as usual, turned into a waffle, so deleted it all. I'm just wrapt (I think that that's the right "wrapt"?).

BNSW is poorly run, needs to improve on live streaming all games and providing better exposure for the players in the league

The NSW league isn't that bad there are some solid players still running around in the league. Apparently the re branding massively benefited Victoria, could it potentially assist to improve the league in the other states moneywise or is it just all in the exposure and nothing else

You can change the name but Nsw will still be shit league, bnsw just charge ridiculous fees to clubs that players won’t get paid.

I don't see how these clubs struggle financially where juniors are paying close to $700-800 a season at fair few clubs and are being told to pay extra for club gear at some

Essentially just doing the name rebrand and deal with the rest of the stuff next year

I wonder if the NBL will step in and assist (money wise etc.) to push all the leagues moving into the NBL1 infrastructure this year

COO of the NBL said talks are close to finalising all 3 other states to join in with NBL1 structure, we could be surprisingly hearing an announcement soon that they will be rebranding

I'm hearing also the main delays for most states is the registration costs for the clubs to enter into the NBL1 being higher than their current rego fees, so even though NBL1 meetings are taking place with the remaining state leagues the league fees are putting teams off as well as the extra cost for being compliant i.e. streaming, commentators etc.

yep SA confirmed to be NBL1 Central

The next step for NBL1 would be to get the games televised, the channel doesn't matter or even if it were on SBSonDemand, it would increase the exposure of the league to broader audiences

I believe it shouldn't be that difficult to get a comentator, live stream going and a few of the other things within a couple months, we could potentially see other leagues joining as rebranding first then all in next year in revamping

Confirmed NSW joining 2021 as NBL East, this year being used as transition to prep for the next by getting all the teams logistically ready

WA have a board meeting later this month. SBL has already released fixture. Combined, means it is more likely NBL1 West will happen in 2021.
There will still be a South Champion and a North Champion this season.

Reality,
Can you explain why the old ABA championship is sorely missed. Until they equalise by-laws etc around restricted players in particular it will be a farce and do a disservice to the year end championship tournament

Basketball Wa have spoken to SBL clubs and I'll be expecting an announcement very coonSurely this announcement means no further expansion this year? I wouldn't be surprised if there's an announcement in the near future that other states will join from 2021, but if there were a chance of other leagues joining for the 2020 season you'd imagine they'd want to incorporate that into the playoff structure. Not to mention that we're only a month or two out from seasons starting.
If anything further is announced for 2020 it would surely have to be an in-name-only thing.

anon 600
really?
how is wnbl a joke?
do enlighten us...

should get nbl women up and running, wnbl a joke.

How is nbl 1 south any different to the old seabl. There are teams from tazzy, vic and south australia. It seems the new vision forward lasted all of one season

The only issue with this is it reduces the number of championship teams. EG. there isn't a QBL or NBL1 (from last year) champion anymore. So there will just be 1 champion from the east coast.
I guess clubs can celebrate being the conference champion? But that doesn't have the same meaning.

Basketball Wa have spoken to SBL clubs and I’ll be expecting an announcement very coon

The above article is an official press release from the NBL, confirming the league's expansion.
Official article here:
https://nbl1.com.au/news/article/nbl1-expands-to-north-and-south-conferences

I've heard they've made a change to allow for 3 restricted players, granted one of them is Australian.
Melbourne have already singed 3 restricted players in Pineau, Naar and Wells (import).
Still not exactly sure though.

Highly unlikely to be for the coming season, but you'd imagine next season would see it happen or season after at the latest. The staggered integration makes complete sense: get the foundations right, expand, make sure it is stable, expand again.
The NBL is showing its savvy smart side by engaging in this, and it is showing it means business in respect of basketball as a whole.
There's an effective consolidation of: NBL as the professional league, NBL1 as the top district league and key Australian pathway to the NBL.
The league running costs are likely consolidated and shared instead of duplication of roles and costs - that's perfect synergy - and gives NBL1 league/clubs better access to decent media and marketing people, as well as the ability for the NBL to leverage for better visibility for partners/sponsors: HJs, Bunnings etc.
Ultimately, there's likely a bit more sync in respect of ultimate direction and hopefully utility of government funding that's more likely received by NBL1 clubs opposed to the NBL itself.
The NBL as part of its media arm should try to design and provide a platform for each state league and its clubs. Try to take those costs away as best possible.

The text here makes this sound official. Hallelujah! Thank you.
Gives full list of teams for both North & South conferences.
Dates they start comp
That there will be a full play-off series between N & S (not expected in first year).
Rules on recruitment of restricted NBL/Import players still not clear to me.
*heard 2 views. That the rules would,
1. change to allow for additional restricted player if he/she is Australian(?) and,
2. stay as is for a year or 2.
I have been under the impression that we, in Qld, would stay with 2 restricted players (option 2. above) till we can catch up financially with our southern rivals. So, if our southern rivals are allowed the extra restricted player, and we are not (option, 1.) that will present an obvious imbalance during the final final's series.
Anyone know about that?
