Boomers squad selected for Asia Cup Qualifiers
Missing from Asia Cup side - not including NBA guys or Euro guys who will not be available during most if not all qualifiers.
Norton
Lisch
Bruce
Mccarron
Goulding
Djeric
Drmic
Newley
Noi
Creek
Cooks
Moller
Kyei
Barlow
Kay
Magnay
Acuil
Johnson
Ogilvy
Bogut

It’s really not that bad when you consider we would beat 85% of the other Asian teams with this squad.
Dech is a potential boomer In the top squad imo. Just turned 26, elite defender, competitor. If he can shoot the 3 ball better he’s a good chance for that 5th guard spot in a year or two.

Adnam
Gibson
Gliddon
Djeric - Not Eligible but named.
Grida
Naar
Dech
Glover
This has to be one of the saddest lists I have seen ever.
I hope the people who chose these into the final squad make some money from Sportsbet and at least donate some of the winnings to junior basketball programs.

Giddey has great potential, but until he proves himself against men instead of boys we will never know.
With the rumours of him skipping college & playing NBL will prove where he stands with his level, until then it means nothing

They have no one else in nz, so a lot of the nz nbl guys in finals are playing.

No
Delaney or Abercrombie, Webster brothers, euro guys, college kids or Adams.

Ili / Kenny / Britt
Rusbatch / Prewster
TeRangi / Ngatai
Vukona / Milner / Harris
Loe / Vodanovich

what is the tall blacks squad

"Magnay and Naar are not in the team."
Nope, but my team was suggesting how it should look. Starting 5:
PG: Cadee
SG: Sobey
SF: Blacnhfield
PF: DJ
C: Magnay

Magnay must start!

Posted this in the other thread before I saw this.
Not much they can do with what's left, I prob would've tried going with less youth though. This seems stronger with enough experience to get through without a loss.
PG: Cadee/Naar/Adnam
SG: Sobey/Drimic/Dech
SF: Blanchfield/Gliddon/Stephens
PF/C: DJ/Magnay/Pineau

Maybe 10 day..l

Good to see Adelaide represented by Sobey, Hodgeson and Cadee, as well as a talented Froling finally getting a run.

Given players not available or injured it's not a bad team.
Good to see Giddey in team.

And nz team with no Ili, Kenny, Britt, Milner, pledger?

Cadee, Adnam, Naar
Sobey, Gliddon, Dech
Blanchfield, Drmic
Magnay, Kyei
Hodgson, Pineau
Reserves
Glover
Grida
S.froling
Lose to nz, win Hong Kong.

It’s looking a bit bare with the finals team players being unavailable. NZ players got no finals so will good to go.

I’d have kyei over the frolings, not sure why he not there.
Having no Johnson or Ogilvy not good for us also.

We will lose the first game and win the next 5 imo. Will come down to points difference.

Gliddon - not good enough, and not going to get much better
Barlow - still good but not quite good enough, time to blood youngsters

Cadee, Adnam, Naar
Sobey, Gliddon
Blanchfield, Drmic
Magnay, S Froling
Hodgson, Pineau
Maybe Giddey as 12th man.

Surely adnam got be in at the point ahead of all those, his defence is no great nor bad but better than those above, Cadee and Naar defensively poor.
Yes it’s looking weaker. Melbourne’s players will be away with nz also.

Looks like Melbourne players will be available.

Yes, the run home is easier for Melbourne and nz overbullets.

Drmic
H Froling - NGE
Sobey - finals
Gliddon - finals
Hodgson - finals
Cadee - finals
Magnay - finals
Wigness - NR
Noi - finals
Djeric - finals
Giddey - NR
Blanchfield
Grida
Naar - Injured
Dech - Removed from fiba list(not sure)
S Froling - NGE
Glover
Goulding
Barlow
McCarron
Creek
Pineau
Adnam
Gibson
Not on list
Acuil
Johnson
Ogilvy
Kyei
Weeks
NGE - Not good enough
Nr - not ready

Goulding and McCarron look like being available if Melbourne United continue their slide.

Hong Kong and Guam. Our only decent competition is NZ.
Definitely go with more young guys and a few vets.
We don't need Creek, Drmic and Blanchfield all together.
Same as we don't need all 3 Brisbane guards.
Mix it up.

Does Naar ever defend the best opposition guard ?No, always hiding him. Good international coaches will realise quickly and close him down offensively, already happening in nbl after his few stand out games. He was back to less than 10 minutes in his last game for hawks.
Magnay can play four and Pineau five.

All of you putting Naar ahead of Dech obviously don’t watch Illawarra play, Dech is a far better all round player. Pineau is a five man, and as much as Drimic comes across as tosser he’s far better than Blanchfield.

Assuming we take 12 and if we drew a line through Sydney, Perth, Cairns and Melbourne teams we'd look at something like this. I'm not convinced we'll take Wigness or Giddey, rather just give them some exposure in camp.
1 Cadee/Naar/Dech
2 Sobey/Gliddon
3 Blanchfield/Drmic
4 Creek/Magnay/Pineau
5 Hodgson/H.Froling
I'd much prefer to start Gliddon over Cadee at the point but get the impression Cadee might get the starters gig.
I foresee a depth chart something along the lines of:
1 Cadee(22)/Naar(12)/Dech (6)
2 Sobey(25)/Gliddon(15)
3 Blanchfield(25)/Drmic(10)/Creek(5)
4 Creek(25)/Magnay(5)/Pineau(10)
5 Hodgson(20)/Froling(10)/Magnay(10)

Pineau? Don't make me laugh man. This is international basketball.
Is it though? We have to get past Guam and Hong Kong.

"NZ Will not do the same!"
Who do NZ have that we should be concerned about who might be playing finals? Smith-Milner. I'll sleep fine I think.

Where’s cadee?

Glover?? What is this goody ranga going to do?

Pineau? Don’t make me laugh man. This is international basketball.

Perrtttth, Sydney no one there for kiwis.
Cairns have Kenny and Melbourne have ili, smith Milner...
They have plenty to work with

The funny thing about the boomers not selecting players from finals teams...NZ Will not do the same!

Scratch Sydney, Perth, cairns, Melbourne atm.
Guards
Sobey / Naar / Giddey
Dech / Glover
Forwards
Drmic / Blanchfield / Gliddon over grida atm.
Post
Creek/ Magnay / Pineau / Hodgson
Little early for Wigness and froling bros.

The only upside of this tournament I see is that it allows the Boomers to widen their depth even further as to who could potentially be called upon when the time comes.
Some are still whinging about the selection, but it worked well for Nick Kay, who was at very least a very solid Boomer in major tournament. He was blooded over the course of Asia Cup qualifiers, and never actually played in a World Cup qualifier or anything else of significance before then.
And you never know who is going to take to the international game. There might be someone in this line up who shines more playing international ball than he does in the NBL. Jason Cadee probably sits in that equation, despite only realistically being good enough to show out against Asian level teams.

""Wheres Ogilvy!! Lemanis is gone now"
You really think he deserves a shot?"
I'm surprised this isn't common knowledge now, but Ogilvy cooked his own goose in 2012 when he missed out the Olympic team. He posted on Twitter mocking the Boomers for losing during the tournament. The players on the team don't like him (how much does Bogut delight in destroying him?) and the coaches have long memories, as that was Brett Brown it happened under.
Ogilvy did his dash.

Starters:
Naar
Sobey
Creek
Pineau
Magnay
Bench:
Wigness
Giddey
Dech
Drmic
S Froling
H Froling
Hodgson.
