Hawks v Breakers Feb 2
It’s a practical decision but wary of a precedent.
If it was 4v5 playing, a vital game for playoffs, some momentum to the home side, 13 points is very doable in 13 minutes. Is it reasonable and fair then to allocate the result? People would probably be debating it a hell of a lot more. There’s every possibility something like this occurs again some day.
Granted once the incident occurs there’s impact whether it be halting play and potentially momentum or straight up determining a result from it when the result could conceivably be just about anything.
Right decision, easier given the circumstances of Hawks being a crap team.

I would suggest this is lucky for Illawarra, the end margin would have been 25+.

The NBL has reviewed submissions from the Illawarra Hawks and SKY Sport New Zealand Breakers following the decision to abandon yesterday’s game at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
The NBL has determined that the result at the time the game was called off with three minutes remaining in the third quarter will stand and the Breakers declared the winners, 65-52.
NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said: “As we said following the game, these were highly unusual circumstances and we had no choice but to call the game off to protect the safety of the players because of the leaking roof.
“Having reviewed submissions from both clubs, we believe it would be both inequitable and impractical for us to replay the game or complete the time remaining.
“Under the rules, over a half of the game must be completed to declare a result. Given this has occurred in this instance, we believe this is the fairest outcome and the result will stand.”
Both clubs can appeal the decision within 24 hours.

League have released a statement saying the result stands and there will be no replay or playing the remaining time.

Wayville not alone... hawks and Eagles - dry nests lol.

Omg this makes NBL look so amateurish. Also who owns or runs WEC as they are slumlords who overcharge

Breakers declared the winner with the finer details to be ironed out
OK, so the full points go to them and let's face it, we are arguing over %. The fair thing would be to say the final score is 52:65, which gives the Breakers a 13 point win. The game time was 27 mins with 13 mins still to play. OK, so could you predict the final score effectively?
I'm not aware of a "Duckworth-Lewis" type system, but if you extrapolated the score over 40 mins, the potential score could be 96 to 77. (174 points) Is this fair? The average NBL game this season has a total of 186 points scored. Each time is a little variable at home and on the road. I haven't updated my spreadsheet for a few rounds, but Hawks average score at home is 84 to 89 (173 points). Breakers average score on the road has been 91 to 99 (190 points)
There's a case to be had that the Hawks could have won, there's also a case to had that the 13 point gap would have held, and there's a case that the 13 point gap after 27 mins would have blown out to 19 points after 40 mins. The % could come into it in the event of a tie for 4th spot. Potentially, could the Breakers sue the stadium for losses of prize money in the event of not making the 4th?
At the 27 minute mark, the Hawks score should have been 27/40 x 84 = 56.7 points, so they are not far away from 52. The total score of 117 points would have produced a game of around 174 points and the Breakers were on track for around 100 points.
I think the best result would be to keep the score at 52:65. There are too many variables at play to accurately extrapolate a final score and the effect on % would be minimal over the full season.

FIBA rules award walkovers with a score line of 40-0. Not sure about half-completed games though.

@NBL
Following the @NZBreakers and @IllawarraHawks game ending for player safety reasons due to a leak in the roof of the WIN Entertainment Centre, the final result is a Breakers win 65-52 with the result and score to be reviewed in the next 24 hours.

How embarrassing.

Surely NZ shouldn’t have to wear the costs of heading back to Illawarra to play again when it is the hosts responsibility to provide a suitable venue.
There was what, 3:00 minutes left in the 3rd quarter left to play?
Result should stand and the Hawks owe their fans Burgers.

Is there any chance they can play the remaining time at a later date?
Just like they did in the afl when the lights went out that night?
Also heat policy friday leaking roof Sunday

NZ shouldn’t have been in the situation of needing points difference to make the finals.
The score should stand where the game was called and NZ get the W and the Hawks get mercy with a 13point L.

Breakers are leading and should get the points. Hawks have no chance at anything.
In this case I think that would be a reasonable outcome

Happened at Australian Open one year and probably in basketball before, hope hawks tell who ever owns, runs and over chargers them for their stadium make sure today is a freebie.

Illawarra Hawks best defensive game of the season.
This is it....the Hawks should just die. Everything they touch is trash.

NZB potentially robbed off points percentage due to this. LOL at Flinn being the one who complained once told of the decision. You were gifted an indirect mercy rule.

This is very Illawarra. Dear lord they are an embarrassment on the league.

Making the 4 was always going to be a big ask for NZ after their first half of the season. At least they’re putting in the effort and they’re fun to watch as a fan.

Gaze telling us hooley had go to the commentary box because the owner of hungry jacks was losing to much money on free burgers that hooley missed free throws. Lmao. Truth there though. Lol.

Ryan is really riding high during his senior season. Had 25pts in the game and hit the tough 3 on the buzzer. His coaches reaction on the sideline falling over is hilarious.
