Joey Wright a no-show at 36ers MVP night
018, absolute crackup!
Keep doing what it is you do, and all you do, you are VERY good at it!!

Please not Matt Flinn!

Bringing back Randle?
Losing Sobey & Hodgson due to relationship issues?
Recruiting Dillon, White to guys they already had like Teys?
I've heard his players all ended up hating him which is a shame! It means time definitely up. He did well. He doesn't take a back step to egos & good coaches can't.
Fell out with mgmt after 2 non playooff appearances which is the caper they are in.
Not showing up to function sums up his feelings on how it ended & totally his call. He would have contributed to his own sacking but probably feel others let him down. His call!
Club & coach eed a chenge.
All the best Joey & hold head high!!

Joey tried to bond the team by making them think the whole of NBL was against them, however all it has done is bred (some) players into selfish entitled complainers. Generally those that have left have improved those that stayed have stalled or regressed....

If Joey went to the Hawks, he'd turn a bunch good kids into a team of flexors looking for a fight, please no, guys like Naar, Dech, Grida don't deserve that.

We'd been down to the bottom with Clarke and Weigh.
Joey was great. An experienced coach, just what we needed.
This season was terrible. Time for a change.

Isaac, yesterday you answered the question,
"What other nbl club would want Wright?" with,
"I'd put him in at Wollongong, but it might be a frying pan and fire situation with owners!"
Agreed but would have liked you to expand that thought.
I think that Joey would be ideal. The club, through their current coach, stated their aim of being a development club and Wright has a reputation of having developed some of our better/best NBL'ers.
The Hawks have some young prospects who, frankly, did not develop much this season. Out of Emmett Naar, Sunday Dech, Daniel Grida, Sam Froling and Angus Glover, only Dech excelled. Glover was goodish. LaMelo Ball was a gift.
For the sake of development, I would be tempted to keep Anderson and/or Boone as mentors for bigs and for the locker-room leadership (that I imagine they bring).
Imports would need to be starting centre, starting forward and starting guard.
Blanchfield, Coenraad and Aj should be replaced. Have been great for the club, still have lots to give, but that sweeps any long-lived negativity.
Would also keep Matt Flynn, (who made the club-wants-to-be-a-development-team reference) either in the coaching line up or in a specialist position??
Isaac, maybe your expansion could start a new thread?

Yes Perthworld, that’s what it was. Did you think of that one yourself?

Maybe Joey was trying to demonstrate to everyone how the club MVP's D looks like?

Its called professionalism. Something Joey preached was do the team thing but when it was his turn: No show!

Joeys problem is all its all about Joey... Sure he will publicly say things like its all about love of the game and how much basketball has given him. But he is nothing but a sook: whinging about refs and singling out players. The world has moved on from fake tough guy seize mentality tactics.
Good riddance dont let the door hit you on the way out you hypocrite dinosaur.

I think this is pretty bad form. Even if you want out and don’t get on with the owner, he has been at the club for a long time now and should be there for his players and fans for the night. Just do your obligations and go your separate ways.

Agreed Lovebroker. He seems to be such a divisive figure, I have always been pro Joey. Don’t understand the strong hatred for him. Happy for him and club to move on but surely it looks an ugly breakup right now. He has done heaps for the 6ers. Surely not a great look for potential coaches to see how this is playing out.

Wow...people are quick to jump on Wright.
I have mentioned above that I don't like the no-show but so many have come out of the woodwork with knives.
I won't forget being taken from last place to Grand Final, then another GF later.
I won't forget the players he has attracted to the club.
I'm not saying he is Mother Teresa, but he has done much for the team, and just because the relationship is ending doesn't mean it's open season on Wright.

I heard not one player mentioned Joey on the night?
A directive from management surely.
Definitely time to move on. I reckon he wanted out after last season, he just didn’t seem as invested at times as he was.
I’d love to see Nielsen given a chance. Been in several winning programs. Whether he’s interested I have no ideas.
Surely Randle needs to go. It seems he’s a very talented individual who is hard to coach and get along with as a teammate.
Surely an announcement on JW is imminent?

What other nbl club would want Wright?I'd put him in at Wollongong, but it might be a frying pan and fire situation with owners!
Don't doubt there were problem players but it's irrelevant. Not showing up to your final team event is pretty much fulfilling that petty destiny. "They didn't technically send me an invite" or "Kelley said he didn't care if I went or not." Whatever. It's awkward, but you go along, keep the peace from your side and then move on.

So hie had a name tag/card set on table for him?
Doesn’t prove he was invited.
Appearances...

Maybe a change of coach will give the club a clean slate in the eyes of potential recruits.
Honestly though it seems like it's the level above Joey where a lot of the 36ers issues originate.

I’ve known a lot of coaches who talk to their players with “We” when they’re winning and “You” when they’re losing.
I haven’t paid a lot of attention to him but he sounds like that type of coach.

This is typical of Joey....always throws the toys out of the cot!Maybe there's more to this MVP night story, but a strike against Joey for me has been that he's often seemed a bit petty. Toys out of the cot is another way to put it. When the going is good, he comes across as a great coach and I think his time with the Sixers was solid. When the going is not so good, there's an invented excuse or justification, or asking refs to throw him out (as entertaining as that is). Feels like if the team loses, they lose big because the starters get pulled as a protest or he's teaching someone a lesson or he's making a point rather than setting a good example for the team.
I'd hire him to coach another team, but it's in his best interest and that of the 36ers for him to move on from here. Whether Adelaide can find anyone better is a different story. I don't see how a review from past legends counts for much? Talk to the team and existing NBL players/coaches/admins.

The Wildcats sacked Alan Black twice but surely he was always invited to awards nights?
Adelaide shoot themselves kn the foot a lot these days...

No winners here and not even honourable draw. Sixers must regroup quickly. Need to begin PR to promote.

Plot thickens. So suggestion he was n o t invited.... if not invited then he wouldn't be at awards evening. Poor form. Something smells in Denmark.... All in.

^ This.
most of the other posts seem to be from people who have never coached or played at a professional level, or been closely associated with anyone other than a single salty ex-player.
There again, probably not essential that you have, to be avoid posting up crap, but it does make it less likely IMHO. :)

If only he was banned from speaking earlier #dud

Joey is like school in January. No class

If Joey was a player's coach, wouldn't he want to be there to celebrate their success?
I know there is tension, but one would hope he could set it aside and be there for his players.
Yeah you can dislike the club but the players still mean something right?

The good thing about lines in the sand is that it's very easy to erase them and draw a new line somewhere different

Joey been undermined. Of course not going to turn up. Very much a foul line in the sand moment. Pivotal moment. Hope club can rebound. Last thing needed is significant turn overs... sensing foul ordor. Hoping someone can point out forward growth..

Witch of the teams fighting for the final play off spots can trouble the top two teams?
Who would be the best teams to match up with NZ or Perth?
Cairns v NZ would be tricky, cairns play a grind it type of game.
Hawks would be a good match up for Perth i think
