COVID-19 and its potential impact on the NBL
I think planes have pretty serious air filtration systems, so any recirculating air would be clean.
Following up on that ^ as Qantas have done a mass email confirming that:
our aircraft have the highest air quality and have HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters installed in our aircraft filtration systems. These devices filter 99.999% of dust particles and airborne contaminants such as viruses and bacteria, ensuring the highest possible quality of cabin air. These are the same type of filters that are used in hospital operating rooms.

"Told you it would be cancelled!"
You also said the announcement was made two days ago, when by all accounts it was made half an hour ago.

Same really. Recording SmackDown tomorrow for the same reason, not having watched wrestling in years.

I think worst case scenario from here would be that they ban crowds from attending but still play the next 2 games. Still worth doing that for TV.
Imagine how well we will be able to hear Gleeson with no crowd or music to drown him out!
It's happening.
Gleesonfest in T minus 4 hours and 15 minutes.
I'm partly disappointed but also low key eager to discover WTF we are in for.

What has Australia done other than throwing money around and saying we have a plan. Lol.

“”Pretty sure no one here is denying COVID-19, We just do not need someone like yourself repeatedly trying to scaremonger with every post. People know it is out there. People know it is dangerous. But countries like the US and Italy etc didn't do half the preventative measures Australia has introduced. So you can sprout all your USA stats and all your Italy stats but they do not directly correlate to the situation we face in Australia.
I do fully expect though that game 3 will be played behind closed doors. The the possibility of only 4 more game required I cannot see them postponing the championship series.””
What preventative measures lol, they brought those from infected areas into the country, yep sure they isolated some of them, but it’s still got here, because they left the doors all open.
Those saying “it’s just like the flu” are delusional, China has thousands of deaths e wry year from the flu, they don’t shut down entire cities and disinfect them, or build hospital overnight to contain those who contract the flu.
This is way more than the flu, for starters you can have it and not display symptoms but be contagious for up to two weeks, all that time your walking around in the community spreading it.
It’s highly contagious, infact it is 200 times more contagious than the flu, as such it means the vulnerable in our society are at far greater risk from those ostriches who think ignoring it will make it not effect their lives.
At the end of the day, cancelling, postponing, limiting sporting or any public event isn’t goi g to kill anyone, but carrying on with them may.
It’s not the end of the world if we all miss games we love, but losing those we love if life changing ....think about it

#935 Never once have I called it the flu you scaremongering piece of shit

The best course of action needs to come before signs emerge en masse, so action needs to appear to be an overreaction at the time.
Not sure if that puts the NBL in a great position. Do you play one more? Call it now without a result? Call it now as a Perth championship? I think I'd rather it called with a result than not, and Perth getting that win on the road makes it easier.

Someone on this forum said before that the actual f1 race was called off. Gee these media stories are getting funnier and funnier. I could say that aliens have arrived and if a news outlet reports it people would believe it.

I feel like the NBL's relatively low profile is the main thing that has stopped it being impacted to this point.

As of Thursday afternoon (12 March), the league office confirmed with The Pick and Roll that while they continue to monitor the situation, the NBL Grand Final games will proceed this weekend.
NBL Grand Final proceeding as coronavirus pandemic impacts world basketball

It seems like the only way to get the 24 hour news media from brainwashing the public about the virus is if something else dramatic happens. 8.5 earthquake, terrorist attack anything to direct the savage media away from the story

Health experts expect covid19 to become one of the many flu strains people might catch every year. It's not that big a deal. As for the comment about intesive care. Most people don't need any treatment at all to get better and your talking about intensive care. Dream on

False flag event. Does anyone actually know of anyone personally that has "died"

WHO has declared it a World Wide pandemic. Is Australia not part of the world. It’s ok though, Anthony Mundine has confirmed the Caronavirus is fake. You can go to sleep now.

We are giving money out so people can go out and spend it, where we should be closing down and limiting the spread of the virus. We could end up like Italy in a few weeks.

Your a lot more amusing when I read your comments out in the voice of Tweek from South Park.

Oh shit... f1 is impacted? Well, this changes everything! Panic stations, everybody!

Anon, SARS was 2003 (I was overseas at the time and remember it). Had 8,000 cases (compared to COVID-19's 100k+ so far). 2009 epidemic was H1N1. H1N1 mortality rate was 0.02%.

Holy shit there are some self-absorbed people posting here.
Think about someone other than yourself for once you pricks.

The last pandemic was sars in 2009 and it was just as bad but 10 years on we have a million more ways of receiving news so the panic is heightened

What about the more extreme measures?
The more drastic steps, like school closures and major event cancellations, would only be implemented when and if coronavirus reaches "sustained community spread" throughout WA.
That's when people start contracting the virus from sources unknown.
Modelling by the WA Health Department anticipates this could begin in April, with the number of cases peaking in August.
Possible "social distancing" measures outlined in the pandemic plan include:
Temporary closure of child care facilities and schools
Cancellation or postponement of large gatherings and public events
Restrictions on, or cancellation of, public transport
Special arrangements for shopping hours to avoid overcrowding
-----------------------------------------------------------
So are you saying everyone should ignore our own health department and start taking their own drastic measures?

Holy shit mate, it's called sarcasm, FFS. I was applying that comment to the other poster not myself. Get a grasp of the concepts in the English language before making yourself look like an idiot.

Let me dumb it down for you.
Someone basically said who cares, I'm healthy I'm ok. I basically said, what about the people who aren't healthy/immunosuppressed/chronic ailments, you have a responsibility not to pass it onto these less healthy individuals.

So anywhere in public where a lot of people gather needs to be shut down. Please suspend all public transport for good

"A normal healthy person doesn't even have to get treated if they get coronavirus.
The body recovers on it's own. People love to over dramatize everything"
You can still indirectly kill someone by passing it on, so what about those ppl who have conditions through no cause of their own? Survival of the fittest? Lol.

Should the football codes be banned during every winter because of the common flu which is 100 times more impactful than covid19. Oh the common flu doesn't get reported on every day sorry
Mate you have to be deaf dumb and blind if you think this thing is just a flu lol
Italy have just had 800* die in a week !
Not quite your "average flu"
You show symptoms of the flu within 48 hrs of contracting it, so you don't spread it too far, you also can get a flu shot
This beast doesn’t raise its head fir almost two weeks, in that time you can infect dozens, and no vaccine available, time people actually starting taking this seriously
Hey media puppet or perfect citizen with no brain of your own,
The flu kills over 600 thousand people each year with hundreds of millions also infected. When this media virus gets to that number it still wont be a big deal. Doctors reckon that it will just become one of the many flu strains that people get every year and just blend in

Tom Hanks has now got the virus, picked it up on the Gold Coast, his wife is infected too. Both in gc hospital.

What is it about Facebook that captures the imagination on something like this? The virus precautions are not some partisan thing. Countries all over the place are taking serious measures. US has just suspended travel from Europe. The Australian is what it is and is talking about closing borders and preventing mass gatherings, has infection graphs on the front page, etc.
Best case scenario is they are heavy handed and 'flatten the curve' and a few people assume it's all been an overreaction because they don't see World War Z on the streets.

Where are the flu people ingesting this info? Is it a Facebook thing? The idiocy is just baffling.

It's also flu season... doesn't seem to affect the games.
Flu kills way more people than Corona virus.
The main stream media has people in a paranoid frenzy.
As long as the stadiums have enough toilet paper they should be good.
You are absolutely correct when you say the flu kills many people in china every single year, infact according to data statistic, on average it kills over 50,000 every year in China alone, so you could say COVID-19 is nothing to worry about right!?, or you could ask the question, if the flu kills that many and they never bring out the armed forces, nor do they close off any cities, or shut down schools or industry, and they most certainly dont build a dozen hospitals, then WHY have they done this with this virus.? My guess is that they are not telling the whole truth, infact probably not even half the truth of what this virus is doing and how fast it spreads.
Spraying entire cities, all transport vehicles and wearing hazmat suits, are not things you see happen in the flu season.
The Spanish flu killed an estimated 20 million people in 1918, but they also suggest it could have been up to 50 million as records were not accurate as so many towns were completely wiped out, their dead were literally left to rot in their homes.
Now modern medicine is a million times better now for sure, so is data collection, but a virus is still a virus, and it doesn't heed to a modern world anymore than it did in 1918.
the ferocity with which this thing is spreading, and the call to remain calm from governments whilst they scramble behind the scenes to get control, tells you this is NOT like a flu season at all.
So if shutting down public gatherings, closing transport routes or any other action they are deeming required to try to stop the stem of this virus is put in place, then really , isn't it wiser to accept it and get on with things , than be getting cranky pants over something that could potentially cause the death of someone, simply because you want to attend.
let them play in empty stadiums, people can still watch on tv, its not like its going to be forever .
I still dont get the toilet roll mentality though no matter what lol

If you come to the game on friday I'll give it to you.
