Wildcats named 2020 NBL Champions; Cotton finals MVP
*

i am a Kings supporter, BUT PERTH ARE THE CHAMPIONS!
PERTH led 2/1 in the series , and The Kings decided not to come out for game 4!!!
Season games do not count. Minor premiers are NOT always championship winners.
PERTH were the BEST in the FINALS which is where the championship is decided.
WELL DONE PERF

Bryce being interviewed this morning on Nova after 8am WA, I'm sure they will ask him about his citizenship.

Re Smith, it's fine for Perth to have a good solid financial base but as soon as Sydney get one you are all whining.
You are sadly in need of some comprehension lessons if you think people (Perth and other supporters included) are having a go at Paul Smith because he is a rich owner propping up the Kings.

Wildcats whipped the Kings in the regular season, and again in the finals. Well done Perth Champions again.
What is the Kings' war cry next year? Go hard or go to Sydney? The Violet Crumbles? The Sydney Queens?

Great duty of care by kings brass. They didn’t want Casper Ware hitting the side of the backboard and missing anymore wide open layups. Very classy looking after your top paid employee like that. Tip my hat to you.

Are there any Perth supporters that have any humility, the right decision was made but for f..k sake be humble. Re Smith, it’s fine for Perth to have a good solid financial base but as soon as Sydney get one you are all whining. We need more owners like Smith in the league.

Maybe the Cats can get their own court decal next year of "Title Town" with a nice big X in it. Meanwhile the Kings should be permanently removing that Hoops Capital crap off theirs
Hopefully the banner is unveiled and rings received against Bogut, Ware and Sydney
And the Kings will duly handover the Game 3 ball plus the Qudos nets?
I can't wait for next season with this exciting to do list!
Wildcats@Kings should be the season opener where we cut down their nets before new ones are fitted in for the commencement of 2020-21.
Alternatively because Paul Smith will cry about the above whenever Kings@Wildcats is first played delay ring ceremony until then along with our new on-court decal and cutting down of own nets in lieu of missing out on theirs.
Any other ideas?

Strong Hint from Cotton that he will be an Aussie soon?

Offseason is here but the work is far from over... stay tuned.. I have something exciting for y’all on the way!

Well said #880

Right decision was made, bad luck Kings historic season and deserved to be able to play out the series, but that was your call to make. Can't wait for 20/21.

Another neutral here that thinks this was clearly the only sensible decision *at this stage*.

Question- Why is Cotton saying on his IG story- Congrats to Rhy Vague on his 4th Champion and "I'm never gunna catch him!- We know Rhy will prob go elsewhere next season and Cotton has a chance to win 3-4 more rings in the next few years (if he sticks around!!!). hmmmmm

If you insist on the angle of forfeiting the Kings will use Corona as their defence.
All we need to say was it was completed earlier than planned (I'm all for an asterisk) and there was a clear 2-1 winner.

See, even the neutrals agree.
*group hug*
Oh wait scratch the hugging bit. My bad.

The Kings didn't forfeit.
The series was cancelled at Game 4 due to uncontrollable events.
The series completed at Game 3.
The rest is just logical.
Thank you Kings for blocking every option provided by the NBL, this was going to be a great series, but you guys help ruin it for everyone.
But hey...like Paul Smith says you are the most consistent team in NBL history. You shatter even when stacked. Congrats.

I have absolutely no love for Perth, I actually get pissed off at their success but it is the correct decision.
I take my hat to the nbl, excellent press conference and Jeremy and Larry spoke superbly, we are very lucky to have them running the league, from the shambles it was to what we have today.
Onwards and upwards for basketball and nbl.
Congratulations Perth and Bryce.
Commiserations Sydney.

Congrats Perth the right outcome and good to see SBS Viceland are replaying the SF and GF games next week.

The Kings decided to walk away from the series - the league had not cancelled it yet at that stage. They forfeited and Wildcats won on a walkover. It's pretty simple really.

Not really sure about this one. It would be interesting to read the Operations Manual, maybe that has a clear answer, but it doesn't feel right.
And any 'forfeit' claims are just stupid, even if being down in the series was on the mind of the Kings. If players weren't comfortable with the idea of having to play/travel/stay in the country for even a few more days or just didn't think it was worth it, that shouldn't be viewed negatively at a time like this.

Winning a 3 game series, by winning both away games, that's pretty special.
What an extraordinary achievement. It's the first time in NBL GF series history this has happened (excluding series that played all of its games (1996 MEL v SEM) at the same venue). History!

I notice the Cats have put little gold asterisks above the word champions on their merch just to keep everyone happy ;)

Why is a French comic book being mentioned in here?
I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this - it's weird, right? At the same time what disturbs me even more about it is the distinct lack of love on here for a certain Belgian comic book.

Judge - Gleeson moved into the #1 slot for Perth coaches several years ago. Just using the simple criteria of being the only coach to win more than one title with Perth would do it, but he has brought a lot of stuff to the table.

Logic prevails. Perth were the far superior team in the playoffs and finals, Sydney chose to withdraw. Any other outcome would have been a farce. NBL consulted legal teams and others to come to this decision so it's probably less to do with what they "want" to do but what they "have" to do in this case.
Either way, for what it was there was some great basketball played in the playoffs and the finals. Put an asterisk next to the championship but we wont soon forget everything that surrounded it. An extraordinary set of circumstances for sure. If nothing else, I think the virus will make us all appreciate the glory of normality. Just finishing a series of basketball games as planned seems like a luxury of a bygone era right now. When we return to that normality we will appreciate it much more.

Initially I said the only fair outcome was a shared/drawn/no outcome- something equal
After reconsidering, I'm now sitting on the fence on this one. I don't have a strong opinion either way anymore.
Congrats Perth- the benchmark of the NBL.
Cotton well deserved GF MVP. I wouldn't have minded them awarding him even without awarding a champion, since he was by so far and away the best player it wasn't even a discussion.

I would have been cool either way, I'm mostly glad that Cotton gets his GF MVP award.
If everything had gone by the book and the series had been canned with us at 2-1, I think no champion would have been the better outcome (which I have said here previously), but due to the way Smith and the Kings have tried to weasel their way through the past week, I'm a lot less reluctant to accept the Cats as champs.

Does this move Gleeson into the title of greatest Perth coach ever? His record is phenomenal especially given the fallout with Nielsen and Forde too.

Wonder what happens to punters who put money on Sydney.
They lose because the bet was a losing one. Perth have been settled as winners already on some books.

Yes it is the right outcome, I’m disappointed that kings at least didn’t fight it out, even if imports wanted out, imo Smith went along with the decision but I’m not convinced it’s the one he’d have made on his own.

Looking for one - any suggestions?
