Why has the AFL gone ahead but NBL couldn’t play 2 games?

In fairness there's not much else to talk about.

Good news is that there is a realistic chance of this being well under control before next season
I have no idea what gives you that impression.

14 day isolation when arriving in the states.

Kings imports would not be able to get home as the US has closed their boarders or have 14 day restrictions if allowed in, California has closed.

Kings did what is right for there imports. It’s not in dispute now. They would not get home.

AFL would definitely still be on if it wasn't for the states closing their borders. It doesn't really have any relevance to the NBL.

That said - the AFL should never have started this year. It's a massive contributor as to why so many people are not taking this virus seriously. They're not alone though.

The Kings were proven incorrect when they refused the option to play best of 3.

Hindsight is great, at the time it looked only Perth should be winners but now kings have been proved correct.

All three of the A-League, AFL and NRL are paid by Fox in advance via quarterly installments. The next one is due on 1st April so they need to complete their rounds next weekend. No play, no pay.

Anon #268 has hit the nail on the head. It's all about money.

Sure cancelling 2 games was easy but I reckon the NBL would have still cancelled the season if we were say 80% through the regular season had it hit then.

The difference is that the AFL & NRL have become so big (or so capitalised from different angles) that the amount of stakeholders grows and eventually the weight of those stakeholder interests have basically left them with no other option but to play on.

Also, in regards to the NRL, it would seem in my view that NRL management haven't had any foresight for something like this (which any BCP should have) and they put so much reliance on TV money without any reserves - that basically, had they not played on this year, the game would have been on life support.

Also ironically enough, whilst you'd think that AFL/NRL players are better resourced than others to take a pay cut (Given their salaries), they were probably the guys out of all sporting leagues that were the most up in arms about any potential pay cut. I guess the simple rationale could be that the more you get paid, the harder it is to let go of it? Missing out on 100k is one thing, but 500k another?

To put simply! It because of MONEY!

Both the AFL & NRL are all about everyone getting their monthly cheque.

Hence why you haven't heard one commentator, journalist, any coaches,
players, staff member from either league criticize them for playing,
when the Australian government has made it clear, everyone need to stay
indoors.

All involved with the sports have either avoided that subject or when
it is mentioned, it's watered down with excuses, like it is great for
people to have a break from the coronavirus and support their team.

What a load of BS!

Obviously this is just his perspective and there might be others being considered:

"We're going through the process of putting a (selection) panel together and have already had agents calling in and offering us candidates," Sixers chief executive Dean Parker said.

"Obviously we want to move forward as quickly as possible but by the same token, we don't want to rush what is a very important decision for the club."

Perth coach Rob Beveridge, his assistant Shawn Dennis, ex-Bullets and Gold Coast mentor Joey Wright, three-time 36ers championship coach Phil Smyth, championship-captain Brett Maher and Wollongong championship coach Brendan Joyce appear to be the main contenders.
"Obviously we'd look at Bevo (Beveridge) as he is out of contract at Perth at the end of the season," Parker said.

"He is in a grand final series so he has bigger fish to fry but we will talk with him when the time is right.

"We believe Shawn Dennis will be out of contract (at Perth) too."
