Change age gradings for juniors?

Have you seen what's happening in the US right now?

Oh so a kid being recruited by, say, Louisville, who spend around $40 mill per annum on their basketball program would be better off staying here to play Premier League and pursue an NBL career that will more than likely be back to having the financial woes of the past LOL

Good one fella. Love reading the unreal crap on this forum.

The US College System would be the last place Id send my kid to play basketball in the next few years.Th US will struggle with this for years due to their population and lifestyle.
Sadly cop it on the chin and wipe out this Winter season and get ready for 2021.

I dont see how will help if add another yesr. Wil.mean that be 3 years in each bracket in first rotation. Which means third less opportunity well.maybe not a 3rd because some already allocated. But will.increase numbers and don't follow how it helps...Maybe restructure to run calendar year cycle.
Hopeful prop lk e are putting.on thinking caps to generate more inclusive program with some creative flair that reflects progressive not depression.

Given restrictions are looking at continuing for at least 6 months it is unlikely we will see any of the winter season played and rescheduling any of the U14 Club Champs, U16 State Champs or U18 State Champs is going to be difficult.

For many of the kids, these can be once in a lifetime opportunities. South Adelaide won U14 summer season and have every reason to expect to make U14 Club Champs.

If the 2020 winter seasons and National Championships are all cancelled then the original posters idea is quite a good one.

AFL is 16 and under and 18 and under. Most countries overseas follow a 16 and under and 18 and under format as opposed to Australia's U16 and U18 format. So there would be nothing ground breaking in doing this.

That allows this year to effectively be reset which would not be a bad outcome given the unprecedented nature of this pandemic.

Question is, does anyone lose with respect to future opportunities if this is implemented? I can't see anyone that loses. A kid that was going into top age U16s next year that ought to make state will still have the same opportunity but in a further 12 months time.

how does changing age groups lead to more kids playing basketball?

Why change back, keep it as new norm.

That's fine for this year's group, but sooner or later, you'll have to change it back - what then?

Forget State Champs, Classics , Nationals and start planning for next season.

Something needs to be done. You could do that but don't forget there is normally a big break over XMas Holidays. They could start the main season in September and have it run non-stop through through to whenever needed. Throw in some double header weekends too. Nationals and Classics make up the compacted schedule. Start summer a bit late and just play each team once. Coordinate nationally. Would get the $$ flowing and ensure players don't missout on much.

These peanuts that run basketball at these levels will screw it up though. They don't run it for the game or the players, only themselves. As long as they have a job, BSA etc don't go broke and keep head above water it will all be too hard.

It's going to hurt everyone but yeah, top-age 18s women, top-age 20s men, and top-age 14s are really going to suffer out of this the way things stand.
