36ers days away from appointing a new head coach
The Clarke - Radford years were the worst in 36ers history as displayed by the data.
Worst results on court. Crowd numbers going down year on year.
They were rightly hated by the majority of the fanbase at the end by the arrogant way the both of them carried themselves while seeing our club fall to pieces. If you remember there were multiple posts on Hoops from people close to them ripping into the fans.
The moment they left things immediately improved.
The fact there is people on here still defending them is amazing.

Wish him well but doesn’t really matter who coaches will be team with the dumpster of a squad. All of the young Australian talent has been pushed out of the squad over the past 4/5 years.

Right, one.
And people hang their hat on that to suggest he is crap.
How many have Gleeson or Wright got?

I remember Radford got one bench tech and it came at a bad time.
Then people here wanted his head over it.
Were there really multiple?

Not certain which way he goes from here, six players signed plus next star and othe than Johnson really all bench players. Really need two good imports plus two more quality locals.

Connner Henry

Stewie would have to be favourite for the Tasmanian job with Nash. Radford would be a disaster where ever he lands.

Technically Tasmania is over seas.

Ewww, just had a flashback to the mattic vs. lucky shitfest that went on for years.

36ers Coaching Selection Committee Meeting
So we've had 2 applications from our Gumtree ad- Murray Arnold and Joey Wright
Isn't Murray Arnold dead?
Yep ...pretty sure it's just a joke application.
<<<12 hours later>>>>
The 36 organisation look forward to working with Mr Murray Arnold Impersonator for the next 5 years

Cameron, nz coach?

Maybe it's Mike Dunlap?
Overseas coach who previously lived in Adelaide

Rillie is the second assistant at a mid major school - I’ll take everyone else over that

Rillie Yes, Henare, sounds ok. Arsego Flynn your program would be laughable

I think those questions were intended to open up discussion and opinions not to be shutdown because we don’t know every fine detail of the future
Tiktok is what the cool kidz do these days

Will the 6ers be better or worse placed financially?Compared to...?
I was assuming the economic downturn would mean less money to spend on the roster?Probably, given they're talking about a 50% reduction in pay for all players.
Do they blow most of the budget on the main rotation (1-7) and go really cheap on the last four spots? It's impossible to answer this question until we know what the salary cap situation looks like, who's available, etc.
Will the coronavirus in Europe etc mean more Aussies looking to play here and result in pretty good rosters for the same/less money? We cannot possibly know this. We don't know if imports will be allowed. We don't know if pay cuts will go through. We don't know if the salary cap will reduce. We don't know if flights will be allowed to go out or come in. We don't know whether there will even be a season to play in.

Henare?

Rillie would be good, the only concern is he doesn’t know much about local talent so would be relying on JVG for local recruiting, not certain that is that good.

According to Santa not Flynn not Forde not Brooks not Beveridge, possibly overseas candidate and that Caporn was a “breakdown of negotiation” opposed to “turned down”

Overseas and has lived in Adelaide, John Rillie fits that, was the article about him the other day a sign that he is the man?
Liam Flinn is another who fits that bill.

Wasn’t Forde interviewed, said Caporn had the job, surely he’d be worth a go, take a few players with him.

Let's get back on topic or start a NH thread about Covid19.
I still think a young international coach would be a good thing, depending on travel restrictions. Otherwise we are down to retreads or charlatans like Flynn. American coaches that haven't been involved in Australian basketball have proven to be failures generally like Demopoulos. Jury is out for me on Weaver, sure, made the finals but had a loaded roster and struggled at the end of season.
Ultimately it's been a bad perfect storm for Sixers. Joey dramas, Whites tweets, Covid19, uncertainty of season affecting sponsorship and salaries, travel restrictions.
I fear it's going to have to be KB simply because no-one else wants it.

Could you imagine that conversation between Caporn and Clarke.
Caporn: "I've been offered the 36ers job Marty. I know it didn't go as well as you hoped. What advice could you give me to ensure I succeed?"
Clarke: "Nothing Adam. I wasn't the problem, it was the fans, the media, the players, everyone else was the problem."

"It comes as Boomers’ assistant coach Adam Caporn has turned down an offer to become the Adelaide 36ers new coach.
The Advertiser understands that Caporn, also the national Centre of Excellence coach, was offered the job but declined."
Caporn may well have spoken to three coaching "graduates" of the ex-AIS - all of whom would have strongly advised him not to chance his arm with the 36ers.
Frank Arsego would be like a triple retread on a 10 year old tyre carcass that has already had a few blowouts - wouldn't trust even it as the second emergency spare, which , by the way, may well be where the 36ers coaching search may be down to.

If we were all aloud to roam freely, the model shows 30 million people could die.

Kobe, you said "There's a fucking pandemic" and your other comments in light of people wanting to discuss the 6ers coach show you have no perspective on this thing. It is not unusual as there a quite a lot of dumb people in the population like you. Panic buying, locking themselves inside 23 hrs per day etc.
It is not a small a number, it could have been worse. We should be very concerned but this will be over soon.
But perspective......
120,000/7,700,000,000
160k die in the world per day.
383k are born poor day.
9 million die of starvation per annum.
18 million die of CVD per annum
400,000 of maleria
500,000 from homocides
etc etc
I hope this gives you perspective. The world is a big place. Yes this is a pandemic. Yes we need to flatten the curve. But yes, the conversation on who the next sixers coach will be is very relevent. Restrictions will begin to be removed soon and the season will go on, it will be different post virus than it would have been if it never came but it will go on. Get on board the NBL train champ.

Someone who has come to better appreciate physical separation and isolation these past few weeks :-)

Well Arsego's "coaching" would complement the clusterfuck that is the 36ers right now.

There's a pretty damn big gap between "doing nothing" and "splashing money around hiring a coach for a season that is far from certain to even go ahead".
I never suggested splashing money around for a coach.
But no, the fact that Adelaide might end up with a lesser coach is obviously the most important thing here.
Get some perspective people.
We are in a basketball forum, with a particular focus on the NBL and with a predominant audience following the 36ers.
Whilst we realise that not getting Adam Caporn to coach the Adelaide 36ers does not rate highly in the scale of current world events, and that basketball itself is not in a vacuum, we still purposely came to a basketball forum to talk about basketball / NBL / 36ers.
If you feel these conversations are beneath some standards you place on discussions, feel free to leave and go to a forum where the names of the fallen are read out on the hour.

120k dead all over the world, most of them over 70 yrs of age.In what universe is that a small number?
It's also significantly lower than the actual number because places like Italy and New York have simply stopped testing the dead because they have better things to do with their time. Generally 20-25 New Yorkers die every day at home of "meh, must have been something I guess". That number is over 200 at the moment. Any chance it's a coincidence? Of course not. So New York has over 150 deaths a day from COVID-19 that aren't being reported.

There's a pretty damn big gap between "doing nothing" and "splashing money around hiring a coach for a season that is far from certain to even go ahead".
Businesses aren't throwing money around right now because we have no idea what the future really looks like and when things will be back up and running again. Even after restrictions are lifted (and we don't know when that will be), are people going to have the disposable income for attending sports in the same numbers as before? Are people going to want to go out and be in big crowds?
But no, the fact that Adelaide might end up with a lesser coach is obviously the most important thing here.
Get some perspective people.

Spain already planing to try finish their season, talking about playing it all out of one area. They have eleven rounds left.

There's a fucking pandemic.
People are still carrying on and planning a future when things go back to 'normal. People still work, hope, plan to build what they can for the future.
The NBL and Clubs are doing the same.
Just because there is a pandemic does not mean we all lay down and do nothing for the whole time.
Might as well sell my house, blow it on Coke and Hookers because what is the point if there is a fking pandemic?

Settle Kobe. Stop your panic buying, come out from the bunker and get ready to go back to your job at Maccas.
120k dead all over the world, most of them over 70 yrs of age. And well over half those deaths are from only 4 countries. This thing is getting sorted out. The curve is being flattened, health systems are prepared, treatments in human trials and basketball and businesses need to get ready to operate when this small bump is out the way.

So we are now getting someone willing to take less money than Caporn.
Wow this season is filled with great promise already.

I just want Gaze to get it now so someone can ask him in an interview about the time he dunked on Exum!

Yes of course the money changed. I just assumed they already agreed on money verbally beforehand.

Why would Covid19 make Caporn change his mind?
Other than states' total lockdown, but that could still be part of the contract to cancel the contract if such scenarios take place.
