Conner Henry to be new 36ers head coach

With the way the market is there could be a few contracted players looking for more opportunities.

The owner can't move himself on and he's the cause of it all.

The legacy of all those involved with Wrights reign should be cleansed

Reading all the above I hope the new coach is a ruthless operator and brings in his own people, a clean bill of health required at the Sixers.

Reading that long post I did not have much of an indication that the poster was "really upset", it just seemed like it is trying to clear up any misinformation you've presented into a public forum. I also did not see any idea or hint that purports the idea that "he is beyond reproach and better than this state deserves".

You again clearly demonstrate your lack of comprehension skills or ability to gather real insight from information provided.

Wow, a little shit stirring got someone really upset. Point taken, he is beyond reproach and better than this state deserves.

670, you assert Jantke misguided a kid to go to a high major that did not even go to a high major (the kid you mention did not go to a high major). Your lack of insight and knowledge right there and your many other posts (consistency in your misconceptions, language and grammar make your posts obvious) show that you really have no idea.

High majors are typically defined as power 5 conferences, do some research on where the Big Sky sits in the scheme of things. My friend, there are only 3 athletes on Jantke's site that went to High Majors and they are all still in college, so let's just wait and see if they are "failures" or not as you put it.

I will add that in the college system there are over 1,000 division 1 college transfers most years. That is almost a third of the participants in all d1 college basketball transfer EACH YEAR. That's alot of movement. Many, many transfer down, some transfer up, some across, some leave. There are many, many reasons why. "Failure" or success is a very individual and personal concept/feeling about ones journey and I hardly think you, who clearly has no insight on this, beyond what you think you read once in social media post, has any idea of how each athlete has or not used their time in college to gain what they personally (with their family) wanted from it.

I find it interesting that you believe that Jantke is like the puppetmaster in all this. Pushing and manipulating kids to certain schools. Kids that played for Australia, state, went to the AIS in many cases, played for club coaches, trained with the 6ers would have a range of trusted "advisors" (many with more expertise than Jantke) in their ears and I'm sure at times they listen to Jantke and at times they don't. Almost all of them go on official visits with their family and spend a couple days with the coaching staffs, teams and on the campus in order to make informed decision. The coaches speak to them and their families on the phone, as well as others around the kids. But one thing is clear reading your many posts is that you have virtually no insight on the process, nor specifics on Jantke's involvement with each athlete and why would you? This is varied and quite a personal process, most athletes keep their cards close to their chest on the detail of their recruiting process.

There are 1000s of organisations all over the world in the business of helping kids get to college that produce content related to those athletes they assist in order to help college coaches understand and recognise where to go to for good information and insights. Check West Coast Elite, AUSA, Australian New Zealand Scouting service, BA's own BA Pathways, Whos got next Aussie, Phenom report, the many Prep Schools and AAU programs across the United States and many more popping up across Australia. This scouting, athlete exposure space is just getting bigger and bigger and bigger. I am not sure if this is healthy or not but the market is full and it seems to be the most effective way to get seen. Athletes and their families mostly love it. You better get used to it.

You would think that programs with deep coaching staffs, HC earnings million+ AUD in many cases might be pretty good at evaluating talent based on information and footage people/coaches at the grassroots like Jantke provide them. They also seek other 3rd party opinions and, you know, fly out here and evaluate the kids themselves.

You constantly say that Jantke "claims" kids with his content. I bet you cannot provide one specific example in the full context of an article or piece of writing where he does, because that content simple doesn't exist on his site or social media. Infact if you read the full article(s) you will it is the opposite in regards to "claiming" players.

In regards to moving clubs, I agree with you. Jantke is guilty of evaluating his own situation and looking for the best one in order to contribute to the sport and athletes involved, and people/parents clubs might also put a case for him to move across too. End of the day people move clubs all the time. They move for different reasons, but you clearly have no insight in this case as to why Jantke moved from any club. Your assertions as to his motives are so misguided it is laughable.

Finally, I always find it interesting when one, who is clearly a grown adult, with an intent to attack another grown man, decides that is cool to include 19-20 yr old amateur men as collateral damage in the process, you have done this more than once, with clearly limited facts insights or knowledge. I won't get personal here on this issue, but think about what 99% of the people out there considering your actions would think.

Helped build a strong program, pffft, helped he had Dan Carlin. They always had potential at that club but kids kept bypassing it because it was a basketcase, just like it is now.
Just a snake oil salesmen. Tells people what they want to hear and they lap it up. How many of his amazing kids succeeded in Div 1 college, only Rigoni and he was smart to go to a small school. If he is so good why not give proper advice, Carter to high major, give me a break.
As I said he'll stay at North till they look like they will decline then move on.

Firstly, how was Creek betrayed on the court, he definitely was off it. Like the use of poetic license but that makes no sense.

Where did he say Creek was specifically betrayed on court?

Yes, I think the problem for the 6ers is the lack of understanding or how out of the touch the owner is.

Under the current circumstances with the need for him to manage his costs, not having resources in there to steer the ship, a lot of things are going on that are just completely out of touch with what is needed/reality.

Thanks God some of the posters above are not calling the shots but I fear the 6ers owners might be as stupid and out of touch as they are.

If KB is not head hunted for reappointment and the reason he isn't is due to the stupidity on Twitter then it is just another example of a complete out of touch with reality, and knowing the needs of the program, type decision. If that is the case I fear for the state's only professional basketball team and basketball in general here.

Just something I am predicting and we will see what happens come tip off.

'There’s a stench around the Sixers & they need fresh clear air to get going again.'
And it starts at the top - Kelley and his cohorts have damaged the brand so severely with their poor performance it is no wonder it has trickled down to the team.

Years ago

KB was there as an assistant under Smyth for a year and back again when he was foisted onto Joey in 2013 so as the 'organisation's guy' I wouldn't be too surprised if he's back again under Conner Henry.

A good back up plan that can slide across if something goes pear shaped with a new coach.

Adelaide clearly are.

Henry would be desperate after a four year hiatus from coaching.

It's pretty amazing really they were even able to get a coach of Connor Henry's status given how poorly the club has been run over the last few years.

I wish I could have seen the sales pitch from Sixers Admin; come join the big, happy family! Our public executions and airing of dirty laundry have slowed right down in the past week.

Plus, we have a payscale that rivals even JobKeeper allowances!

Get onboard, a'ight?

'Perth sacked him - look into why that was.'

Tigers sacked Trev & he now has 5/7 rings - all coaches are sacked at some stage. Means little from 12 yrs ago & i'm sure it was discussed.

Listening to that timeout apart from the 'awwrigts' which will also drive me mad, it all sounded positive to me.

I also think he played with Larry Bird in that Celtic legend era & tells plenty of good stories about it.

Maybe he has some aussie player contacts in the states? Surely Adelaide want a coach who can attract aussie talent?

Just ask some of Traceys ex players at Southern. As for

For the life of me I can't see how Connor was hired over..

Brian Goorjian - too expensive
Brendan Joyce - are you kidding
Kevin Brooks - obviously want a sweep out of previous coaches
Adam Capron - duh, he said no, read other posts
Rob Beveridge - didn't want it
Arron Fearne - didn't want it
John Rillie - didn't want it
Shawn Dennis - see Goorjean
David Patrick - has cushy job in college
Ian Stacker - maybe 20 years ago
Matt Neilson - didn't want it
Paul Henare - don't know

He wasn't.

So he coached the Wildcats to the Playoffs every year (which isn't that big an achievement, given they do it every year anyway, but an achievement nonetheless)
He coached one playoff game. They lost at home.

Hendo, a whole lot of bitter, armchair critic tragics that are incapable of doing anything themselves of significance, so why not come into a forum and anonymously bag successful people so we feel better about ourselves.

That is 90% of the purpose of this forum. Not complaining about it just saying what it is.

Henry:
Adam Caporn
Peter Crawford
Jeff Dowdell
Darnell Hinson
Isiah Victor
Ben Knight
Alex Loughton
Chris Goulding

Beveridge:
Damian Martin
Drew Williamson
Luke Schenscher
Martin Cattalini
Galen Young
Kevin Lisch
Jesse Wagstaff

So they upgraded every single player on the roster, and got better? Shocking that.

Years ago

So he coached the Wildcats to the Playoffs every year (which isn't that big an achievement, given they do it every year anyway, but an achievement nonetheless), then went on to be assistant coach of a G League team, then became head coach of a G League team (where he won Coach of the Year), then was an assistant coach in the NBA, and people are shitting on the signing this much? People just like to whinge about everything on this site.

Years ago

Since 2008-09 with Wildcats:

2 year gap
2011-13 with G-League team as assistant
2013-15 with different G-League team as head coach (COTY award)
2015-16 with NBA team as assistant
3-4 year gap

So we honestly don’t think someone can dramatically improve at their craft in 12 years?
Look at his resume since 2008.
If we were all judged now in what we knew and did back then some of us might not be employable at all!
Take the emotion out of it and look at the body of work since then.
Could still be a dud but referring back to 2008......
Wait, my bad, this is Adelaide we are talking about aren’t we?
36 years behind the rest of the country.

Carry on.

I would have given Tracey a go. I thought she was very professional as an assistant

Years ago

Any love for Tracey York??
Has had good success although not at this level.
Didn’t see her doing a lot on 36ers game day, but that may be Joey’s direction
Worth a chance?

Didn’t Bevo bring in all Martin, Knight, Wagstaff and a few others, if so hardly compares.

Bevo and a guy called Kevin Lisch, the Grand Final MVP.

CH led the Cats to a pretty average season in 2008-09, then incomes Bevo and everything changes for Perth

When was last time you saw KB drawing up play. His job was video coordinator and helping out at training. Didn't they say they were bringing Randle back despite knee injury, this could be new role. And if imports are reduced then maybe he can replace a dud towards end of season.

Years ago

I do not want Jerome Randle drawing up plays where there is 1 O vs 5 X's.

Years ago
I remember when he was the Cats coach and performing poorly, and curious would always bag him and laugh at Perth fans. Then he became the Sydney assistant so curious started to sing his praises as if he was the greatest coach ever.

Ahh yes, I remember that too.
Based on his level of improvement from the Perth season to the Sydney season, and the fact that a decade has passed since then, he is probably one of the best coaches in the game by now and Adelaide have got themselves a steal.
Years ago
I'm trying to remember him from his Wildcats days... was he the guy who would end every sentence in a timeout with "a'right?"? Every sentence.

Yep, that's the guy.

I wonder what Kevin White's mental health score would have been after Connor Henry was finished with him.

Years ago

Players coach that is tough and wants defence played. I’d say that these things have been missing at Adelaide, I wish him well if true.

Looks like only two imports so getting your Australian players right is going to be critical.

Henare, beveridddge, forde, mcmains, flavell etc probably better imo.f

Years ago

Probably as good a hire as could be given the current global climate and the situation the club finds itself in. More hot tempered than Joey was and defence first which is probably what we need now anyway. Not very often a former NBA assistant coach comes into your orbit. Will certainly get a few noses out of joint not sure how DJ will go under him.

Years ago

I don't remember much of his previous time in the NBL. But logic suggests he took the Wildcats to the playoffs each time.

Maybe he can take the Sixers to the playoffs.

I hope.
