NBL: 45 out of 50 contracted players opt in
NBL rumours starting in May

Eg - Wildcats. If they have the option to sign Motum to replace Nick Kay...would they wait until Kay has had a chance to assess the international market before maybe opting back in? Or do they jump on Motum?I imagine this would be low risk for Kay, for example. Presumably he'd keep the Cats abreast of his plans and vice versa. And if he gets a solid gig in Europe, he's paid and worst case someone can grab him when he returns. Someone will still offer him $200k given his winning nature.

So out 90 players required 45 have contracts. Maybe we should get under way with free agency.

“ We are very pleased that 90% of contracted players have chosen to remain with their NBL clubs”
50 contracted players, 45 opted in, 5 opted out
Uncontracted are irrelevant because they’re uncontracted covid or not

Um the league has 11 players on 9 teams, maybe you want to find out who is brain dead.

There is a reason why I usually do not read your shit Daz. Out of 50 contracted players 45 opted in. My god your are brain dead.

Far more likely to be a genuine desire to play/earn overseas.
Such a move to just move domestically for a relatively small $'s is unlikely.
It could happen though - that's Perth biggest issue ...replace Cotton with an expensive import and then Kay and Cotton both comeback --> you'd have to choose and not honouring contracts isn't a great look.

Could this be a play by those opting out?
Player A opts Out of Team A.
Team A finds a replacement in Player B.
Player A pretends to want to come back to Team A but Team A have all roster spots filled.
Player A signs with Team B for more than what Team A was offering (contract less Covid19 provisions).

No one gets paid in the off-season by NBL clubs. That's why when the season finishes they go to other leagues to supplement their incomes.Incorrect.

Finn Delany is staying.

"Is there any significant reason for a contracted player, who is in demand, to not opt-out?"
Isaac, during the period they are "opted out" players don't get paid, so there is a financial disincentive of varying degrees, alongside the chance they could be recruited over the top of, but that wouldn't happen until free agency opens of course.

Are all players members of the Players Association? What if they opt-out of the PA? Does the PA agreement apply to them then?

No players association and management agreed to wage cuts, there was no vote, it was follow the leader mentality, if a few players feel there being hard done by it’ll be lawyers at ten paces.

They can opt back in but my understanding is that the team doesn't have to hold the spot on the roster for them. They could be replaced if they opt out.

Isaac, the only risk I see is that if they opt out... then their team finds another option that is a good fit they might not want to sit and wait to find out if they are coming back.
Eg - Wildcats. If they have the option to sign Motum to replace Nick Kay...would they wait until Kay has had a chance to assess the international market before maybe opting back in? Or do they jump on Motum?

Contracts are not worth the paper there written on, the 45 will still be able to move if they wish, there agents know and are all just waiting to see what happens.
It could end up lawyers at ten paces depending on how the virus subsides, if it stays bad players will cop it and move on but if things get better quickly I’m not certain players will take pay cuts.

Is there any significant reason for a contracted player, who is in demand, to not opt-out? They can opt back in. Opting out means they can run to Europe if that starts earlier, play briefly abroad if NBL 20/21 gets delayed, etc?

Guys,
I've been in contact with Neulion, who apparently handle the HD streaming of the NBA League Pass. I've worked as a video editor for 20 years and know HD formats pretty well, although I struggle to see how the NBA League Pass is considered HD. Has anyone actually looked into this? I mean for starters the video player is only 960x540. Minimum HD requirements are 1280x720 (720p). The annoying this is that I've had over 200 emails with tech support, and no one seems qualified over there to answer simple questions. Its a bit of a joke really since they (NeuLion) are a company who are supposed to specialise in streaming HD content across various sports. Nearly a whole season has passed since I began emailing them with my complaint. I can't believe its taken this long, and still there has been no breakthrough. Its not a HD service, yet its advertised as HD. Is anyone even aware of this problem?
