Tassie 2021 - roster/ coaching staff
$2M a year from the government?
Nice to see WA's GST being put to good use.
Seriously, whilst this might be good for the team in the short-term, it simply perpetuates the same old problem in Tasmania. Too many people just sitting on their asses expecting the guvment to pay for everything.
My In-laws came from Tasmania. They lived in a little town South of Hobart, and later moved to another little town up North.

Well at least with Flynn, he wouldn't actually have to be in Tasmania. He can just post them his DVDs.

Stewart working the media hard for that jobs
Won’t get it . Can’t coach

High level European A grade coach...Thanks for posting Liam. LMAO

No bait - you get a high level European A grade coach, two guys with very strong Tassie links and the best junior development guy in Aus. It'd surely cost them a pretty penny to put it together but looks like they're willing to spend up to get the right people. Good on them!

Coach - Liam Flynn
Assistant 1 - Mark Radford
Assistant 2 - Anthony Stewart
Player development coach - Andrew Jantke.
Heard it here first. That’s an A grade coaching staff with experience at all levels including above NBL and if they’re allowed to stay together for 3-5 years will be the best in the NBL.

Yes today.

The Mercury is reporting today that the final paperwork has been signed between the Tasmanian Government and the NBL for the new team to start in 2021/22. An announcement is happening today.

Here is possibly some good news.
"https://www.themercury.com.au/sport/basketball/time-frame-for-derwent-entertainment-centre-refurbishment-down-to-the-wire/news-story/329f4b9d3d93efd44f60bf543d15f8ef" About time.

and Wellington

Also Newcastle team to follow

I personally enjoy laughing at PerthWorld and his trolling.

No idea how the system posted a blank entry when I wasn't even trying to post but glad you enjoyed it both.

^5 and the Tiny topic that Perthworld was so upset about that poor girl has been shut down. Silence from Perthworld should be the new norm. Silence Matters

From today's THe Mercury online.
"The two parties have spent the past fortnight thrashing out the finer details, which will see Mr Kestelman hand over the league’s 10th licence and invest $150 million into a shopping, hotel and restaurant precinct at Wilkinsons Point.
“I spoke with Mr Kestelman [Wednesday] night and we are very close to a final agreement, there are a couple of matters we need to hammer out,” Mr Gutwein said.
“But we are both positive we will be able to take this forward, subject to finalising those matters.
“That will also enable an NBL team to play in Tasmania not this season but in the next.” Let's get it done.

Nbl announced 7 mins ago Tasmanian government have pledged 68 million for the re-development

reckon he means 21-22, will not build stadium by the end of this year along with everything else

RoJo was a butt boy yes man who had angry little man syndrome

"No SA coach least of all NBL1 Central coach has any chance of running an NBL program." Finally some sense.

No SA coach least of all NBL1 Central coach has any chance of running an NBL program. Maybe throw up RoJo hahaha

Not a joke. Just clueless losers, with no lives, that have nothing better to do with their time now that COVID means their psych appointments are no longer available.
I know both these blokes.
For Simons, Jenkie or anyone to take on a role with the new Tassie NBL team they would need to WANT to do it in the first place. And even if they did (I am sure they do not) I am certain they would both agree there would be many candidates mentioned above far better qualified.

Respect? Not if no one has ever heard of him. Titles in SA? meh

Can't argue with the 8 or 10 titles whatever he has he crushes the SA league and would have respect around the country from his coaching and playing prowess.

Haha, dirty Andy. If he ever gets a spot in NBL look for all bylaws to be gone through with a fine tooth comb to find any loopholes.

Time for Kestleman to come up with the goods if he wants that $40mill.

hahahaahhaha just NO

Simons played NBL and would be a good candidate for any club. I’m surprised the 36ers haven’t pursued him. He is the Phil Jackson of the SA league.

enkie is best coach of young talent in Aust.. he identifies and devs. Just like Clarke, Radford, Caporn and Rush. No experience in coaching adults.
Hopefully there are better candidates around than those names sorry.

Anon 105 - you're enjoying this!!
Do you rate them, believe they will do the job well?

Both basketball people.

'"The GM / CEO roles are crucial," Yep. Both already selected apparently.'
Interested in who they might be- anyone else besides Crivelli mentioned??
Damn crucial roles

"The GM / CEO roles are crucial," Yep. Both already selected apparently.

Does Jantke post on hoops?
Yes, he wrote a long essay defending and talking himself up which is why people make fun of in the first place.

His an assistant. Rides on the coat tails of friends

The GM / CEO roles are crucial, as evidenced by Tommy Greer at South East Melbourne Phoenix. He has been very impressive, given he has the benefit of working in Australia's basketball heartland but he has the community onside and recruited smartly both with the coach and players.
Hope Tas have a similar GM lined up who will put the work in - the benefits will be huge ie bringing the state together.

Jantke clrearly is not a candidate. Raford either

Let's just say Jantke could have coached the original Dream Team and taken complete credit for the gold. And that he personally raised Jordans play for the following year.

Clearly not someone Tassie needs either of them

Liam Flynn is a South Australian coach that advertisers on hoops some times and has coach in Europe I believe.

Perthworld, you don't have to ask him, he'll push it down your throat himself. Always have a giggle reading his stuff, coached best junior team of all time, anyone that's been in same stadium as him that went to college was because of him. His players getting all those Div 1 offers. Wait for how he changed an underperforming North Adelaide team into champions.

Flynn and Jantke
Flynn from Illawarra? Who is Jantke?

Flynn and Jantke, please. Best X and O's, best connected. Someone's read their press.
Hate the term mercenaries, whole league is basically a militia then. Rarely does a player suit up for their home team and has a long and great career with the one franchise.

Mystro
it can be a mix of both ie mercenaries and a couple of locals. The team needs the best in place, including the coach. There is talent here in Tas but it needs structure and opportunity. Pathways including NBL1 to NBL need to be in place, like all professional franchises it will not rely on locals alone but be a team the state is proud.
Back in the day the Devils were at their best when locals from across the state including Bellchambers, Stewie, Nash, Estcourt played for them. They never had the connection with the community across the state right. If this team gets it right it will work well.
Lots of other steps still need to be taken ie the CEO / GM / CFO / Comms etc to be in place as well as clear timelines on the DEC being upgraded.
It needs to be done properly.
