Any news on when the VJBL season will end?

BV has green light to resume competitions under "Orange-50" status, for both rep and domestic.

Trouble is, many associations do not have access to schools and other venues managed by YMCA etc. They may not have access until first week back at school, and some schools may choose to keep their gyms closed to outsiders until things settle down.

Those who say kids don't need prep time are kidding themselves. They need at least two weeks of training given for rep level comps, most have done nothing for the best part of 4 months, otherwise injuries are likely to explode.

Also, the various divisions of VJL also include bottom age players, so saying the standard is poor at VJL2 and below is not really an informed statement. Many bottom aged kids are playing VJBL1 through to 4 and would be aiming for VC the following season.

The VJBL pathway has proven itself over the years, and keeps VIC at the top when it comes to nationals as a result of its depth.

Kind of my point. Wa can go back and in completely different scenario to Victoria case wise etc.

Setting yourself a date that was close to WA’s when they are at total opposite end of spectrum regards to Coronavirus was at best, ambitious. Season returning 19th July for WABL which runs at a lot smaller scale and more manageable, where cases are basically zero. Wanting to start at the same time when the vjbl is a huge scale (too big?) with a big proportion of games played out of external venues, was a bit pig headed/arrogant. Might be a good time to assess ‘rep’ basketball in Victoria throughout all of this. Most of the standard below vjbl D2/3 isn’t rep standard. Some clubs running 20/30 teams would barely have any teams that would be classed as rep.
Regionalise most of divisions and run at smaller scales, next year.

With a lot of clubs waiting on access to venues and schools that may not even be made available immediately, and now some council municipalities staring at possible lockdown, one would suggest that a possible start date of July 17 a real challenge.

Need to give the kids 2-4 weeks of training first before they play VJBL games.

What happens if they play a round or two, and then restrictions get restored and the season gets wiped out anyway? Not much time to fit in half a season plus finals.

While cancelling the season is one option many do not want (financial reasons has a lot to do with this as some clubs are being managed very irresponsibly), I think the best option is to roll this season into next year. Change the age groups to FIBA's and then everything can continue and play out when things permit.

Some associations are bordering on financial collapse. They need to start playing and playing soon even if it is less games.

I know the bench aint that good but that starting line-up is great and would be an entertaining game to watch.
