Breakers 50-50 to relocate to Australia - Walsh

Yeah, I was hoping that was a given!

'"Accomodation you pay for anyway for the away team." Since when?'

I read KET as meaning the away team currently has to pay for accommodation.

"NO NBL no NBL1. You can't have both teams playing in the one season"

What on earth does this even mean?

I think teams need to play their usual amount of “home games” in front of their crowds.

Accomodation you pay for anyway for the away team.

To that extent best bet is to have the hotspot teams backload their home games.

That way their only issue - no doubt still a major one, is immediate cashflow.

The alternatives are too expensive and if you push the season back too much, players won’t get their money and that’s a real issue. If they do get their money you have that immediate cashflow issue anyway.

Season pushed back to December/late December plus backloading hotspots plus relying on sponsorships to handle immediate cashflow issues while having fans attending and the games on TV to keep sponsors happy is the way to go IMO.

If Qld, WA, SA start having second wave then it’s fucked and hope things can turn out ok!

AUNZ bubble has been shelved for months at least.

So how would loading up with home games help? Opponents won't be able to get in.
Assuming he's not inventing ideas on the spot, athletes might be granted entry from a WA bubble (for example) to NZ. Australians returning from NZ would presumably not be subjected to isolation. The NZ athletes however might be subject to iso periods when coming in and out of the country. Just guessing.

At this rate you'd be wanting to front load home games to Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and back load home games to Melbourne, SEM (hotspot), Sydney (hotspot), NZ (international), Cairns (Avoid playing too much out of Bunnings)

Is spending 1-2 months away Spurs Rodeo Trip style appropriate for an NBL length season?

December/Jan all games are in Adel/Per/Bris (a few in Cairns)
Feb-Mid March all games in Vic/NSW/NZ
Mid Mar-Mid April Standard H&A to allow teams to regather some normalcy
Mid April Finals

Can't be anything in Tassie - there's no infrastructure there yet until that DEC is done up

#293 and #309, suggested both areas as they are in QLD and are not COVID Hotspots unlike NSW and VIC, considering the recent spike in cases in those states.

Tasmania would be a good option, as well as WA. I'm only suggesting these cities for the Breakers to based out of, not for an NBL 'bubble' to exist in.

Also having them based in areas which don't have teams might allow for easier/ priority access to decent venues for games.

I think its 50-50 whether we're calling a city in Australia our home, or whether we load up with all our home games at the beginning or end of the season.
What EXACTLY is the issue in NZ?
Because I'm struggling to understand his suggestions.
He seems to be implying that the problem is travel, which is what I thought. Despite talk of an ANZ "bubble" I don't know if they have opened their borders.
So how would loading up with home games help? Opponents won't be able to get in.
Unless he's trying to suggest a hub, but then your home games are still limited to the teams in the hub

Tasmania for a year? Give Tasmania a taste of NBL before they get a team, and hey, it aint so different from South Island. ;)

#302 you are just plain wrong

This next season is about survival not trying to build. Whatever it takes should be done. The two Melbourne teams are more of a concern at this stage, could one play in Albury and one in Canberra? I think that's probably the best option.

Who would've thought that the best chance of getting conferences in the NBL was a global health issue forcing clubs into bubbles.

Would be good to have them based out of either the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast, or somewhere primarily in QLD. Pretty sure there are adequate venues in Queensland able to facilitate and host NBL games. VIC, WA & SA teams in one conference, QLD, NSW & NZ teams in the other??

Or maybe have them based in QLD for the first part of the season, and the relocate back to NZ to finish the season off, or vice versa.

One league is far more important than the other #277

just looking around the Big V and at roughly the halfway point (Team played 10-12 games) i think there is a number of underperforming teams which i've made a list of below.

**Please note i left off teams that were expected to be no good!**

Hume City - Struggling not very talented but still you'd expect better!

Warrandyte - Not sure whats happening but surely the coach might be under pressure!

Warrnambool - Struggling but always tough to resruit depth

Camberwell - Thought with Lowery & Bryar joining would have helped them but they appear to have gone backwards
