The only reason Cairns get so many tourists is because lots of people want to go further north (if thats possible) to the barrier reef and Port Douglas and so forth but they have to fly to Cairns to get there, but Cairns itself is nothing special. I asked one of my mates what Cairns was like and he said hot, humid, and the place was a real dump! He couldn't wait to get back to Adelaide. Compare that to Adelaide where we have a pretty city surrounded by parklands, arguably the world prettiest cricket ground, a non humid climate and the attractions that skip mentioned (most famous wine regions in the world, one of the biggest arts festivals in world and the biggest car race in Australia. I know where I'd rather live!
